My niece was carrying this little dog around one day at my parents so I finally made a print of it.

I found a dung beetle in my basement, it had crawled out of the ash pit under the fireplace.  I have never used the fireplace but the grackles drop all sorts of crap down the chimney including themselves.  Beetle Heaven.

Here is a drawing of a monarch butterfly on yellow green color field I drew yesterday.  I had been pulling woodcut prints all day and decided to take a break with a bug.  It is an Art Trading Card sized work which is currently listed at:

Last weekend I spent Saturday at the Fallout Art Fest with and interactive booth for kids and adults to make their own Artist Trading Cards.  I had over eighty kids (mostly) do art cards of various types.  I brought a pile of National Geographic for inspiration if anyone wanted some.  It was a good time with a different band/entertainer every hour and members of the Fallout center painted a mural around the front door during the festival.

I drew this during the festival while helping all the kids and finished it up later.

In this drawing I decided the primary color would be brown with orange highlights.  The grid in the background forces the flatness of the pictorial space to the foreground.  For me the feeling of being hollow is always visualized as circular so I placed a large circle in the middle of the figure in an agitated blue color which contrasts nicely with the square orange on the exterior.

I was out walking the dog last week and came upon a dead dragonfly on the sidewalk being eaten by the ants.  Instead of just photographing the carcass I picked it up and carefully carried its dried husk home.  And I made this drawing:

“Dragonfly”, Charcoal on paper, 14” x 17”, 2009-07-10

it and other drawings can be seen at:

This is a drawing of a dead bat which has been moldering away into dust in my studio.  The wings and back legs came off as did the head.  There were also little creepy crawlers inside the skull and ribcage.  It's no wonder I have spiders in my house.

I responded to someones request for a drawing of a box elder bug yesterday and drew an Art Card of one before breakfast.  The little buggers run around and smell bad but they don't bite.
