In the words of the inimitable Mr. Slave, "Jesus Christ!" What a fucking blast Lucky Pierre was last night. The DJ booth was actually the safest spot in the joint. It was naked boys everywhere you turned...in the strip poker room (of course, manned -- or ladied -- by Artemis Chase, Charisma Glitterati and Bebe Sweetbriar), on the casting couch (for Factory Video, who co-hosted last night's event), and hot go-go boys doin' it (quite literally) on stage. The bar was packed, the dancefloor was bumpin', Miss Coco Canal was workin' it like like only she can, while Donimo and I kept the asses shakin' until 3am.

Call it one part lazy, two parts busy (the good kind!), but I'm not going to get around to posting mp3s from July's Lucky Pierre.  The tradeoff here is that you can see me do it all over again twice this week!  Friday night I'll be spinning at SOMETHING, and Saturday (7/14) marks the debut of Now Hear This!.

I haven't been DJ'ing long, so my experience is fairly limited, but last night at Lucky Pierre I did something I have never done before...something very, very stupid. Overall it was a great night; the place was packed and their were many asses a-shakin'. Late in the night, after Donimo and I had been rotating 45 minute sets, I was being a little silly, spinning some marginally ridiculous stuff (that the kids ate up, consequently), and actually played a few requests (even though requests are one of my pet peeves). Then it happened: I had my first experience with DJ panic.

I had something on I hadn't played before (Dial 1 by Young Americans...great track, incidentally) and had no idea what to play next. I was dickin' around in the booth, socializing and talkin' shit, and realized that I had less than a minute before the track ended and I had nothing queued up. I quickly started searching for tracks in a similar BPM range and noticed something that Donimo had made a joke about months before. I figured, "eh, what the fuck...they'll either like it or they'll laugh." I put on "Missing" by Everything But The Girl. The dancefloor almost stopped dead and I had at least 10 people staring up into the DJ booth with looks ranging from "what the fuck?" to "what an asshole."

Maybe it seemed funny when I followed it up with "Baba O'Reilly." Maybe not. At least no one got hurt.
