Truth Corroded Interview - DB Magazione Sept 9th 2009
Truth Corroded
While its line-up changes from year to year, annual metal extravaganza Against The Grain always sees two local outfits take the stage, Truth Corroded and Double Dragon. It’s only fair when you consider that both groups’ singers – Jason North and Lee Gardiner respectively – organize the whole thing themselves.
Speaking to North about what his own band has been up to since the last Against The Grain, I discover that their second Asian tour, conducted during the final months of 2008, was unsurprisingly a highlight of the last twelve months. Whereas their first such tour had them going to Singapore, their more recent one saw them travelling to Hong Kong, China and Thailand. Among the many memorable moments was a show in Beijing with Behemoth, an experience North describes as “awesome.”
“We also played in a place called Shenzhen,” he informs me. “It’s like an hour’s coach ride from the border with Hong Kong. There aren’t many Westerners there, so you feel like a freak show walking around the place with everyone just staring at you.
You read in the Lonely Planet guides that it’s the roughest place in the country – it’s often called the Las Vegas of China. You’re told that you shouldn’t go down dark streets there, so the first night we’re there, what do we do? We take a wrong turn, and find ourselves heading down a dark street! People are staring at us, and [bassist] Greg [Damon Shaw] and [drummer] Liam [Okninski], who were next to me, see this Chinese guy walking around in track pants that are like chaps with the middles cut out. He’s got his balls to the wind, and flashing at everyone, so, yeah, those two saw a bit more of China than I did!”
Traumatic experiences like that aside, North says that the band’s experiences in China were very positive overall. “People were generally really friendly to us over there,” he remembers. “They’d stop and talk to us, albeit in Chinese, which we don’t speak ourselves. They’d be talking to us for ten or fifteen minutes without realizing we had no idea what they were saying!”
“We had a couple of tour managers and interpreters with us, though, as well as a band from Singapore who all spoke Mandarin, so they knew what was getting said. We also played in Guangzhou, where we did one of the best shows I think we’ve ever played. The place had a capacity of two hundred, but I think there were actually three hundred there. The place went nuts with stage dives and circle pits, and it was about seventy degrees inside, so it was just crazy.”
One downside of the tour was that it brought about the departure of longtime guitarist Corey Grieve, whose position has subsequently been filled by the versatile Darren McLennan, a musician who’s played in Fury, The Harrowed, Sarsekim and probably every other Adelaide metal band at one time or another.
“Corey’s departure came about mainly because of the Chinese thing, as well as the fact that we had more offers to go overseas,” says North. “He had to make a decision of where he wanted to be because he’s a family man now. Being in a band, especially an Adelaide one, you don’t make much money and we couldn’t get paid enough to cover our wages while we were away. Corey was like, ‘I can’t do that trip. Can you get someone to fill in for me, because I can’t afford to be away that long?’”
“So we looked around, and because he’s a very talented player – a pretty unique soloist – we could only really think of one person to replace him. That person was Darren. He practices at the same place as us, the Bomb Shelter, and is an amazing lead player, so Greg just asked him if he’d be interested in doing the tour with us. He just went, ‘yeah, I’d love to go’, so he learned the songs and came away with us.
Once we’d gotten back, Corey told us there were other shows he couldn’t do because he couldn’t get the time off work, and it came to the point where he just said, ‘I can’t commit to the band any more. I’d love to still be in it, but I can’t and I don’t want to hold you back.’ He’s an awesome guy – we had a great time with him in the group, and we’ll always miss him. I think he’s planning on doing something new, though, so that’s cool.”

A Message from Corey regarding his departure from Truth Corroded
It is with deep sadness that I announce my departure from Truth Corroded. Though this was not the plan originally the past 7 months without jamming and gigging with the band has taken a negative toll on me personally, missing out on the Asia tour being my breaking point!
I feel it is better for both my sanity and the band as business to remove myself from the equation as my current situation is not going to change for some time.
The 5 years I spent with TC were the 5 best years of my life to date! I got to see all corners of Australia, share the stage with awesome bands both home-grown and international plus record two albums with 3 of my oldest friends. I met so many great people (fans, bands, TC drummers) and am extremely grateful for knowing all of you.
I am extremely proud of what I achieved with the band and the sound I helped TC create, culminating in the 'warlords' album.
To all the fans whom have supported the band and my playing over the years, THANKYOU! Your words have been nothing short of inspirational!!
I will continue to support the band and my services will always be available for any studio work should it be required.
I will now focus on improving my playing and hope to have one or more projects up and running by the end of 09, i will be back!
I would personally like to thank Mark, Jase and Greg for allowing me the opportunity to share in the dream they built and also to Liam for being the final piece in the puzzle that allowed us to obtain the sound we wanted. Nobody could ask for a better group of guys to play in a band with and I only hope I can feel that vibe again.
Thank you all, Corey j Grieve.
Initial Truth Corroded Press Release.
Corey Leaves Truth Corroded – Replacement Announced
Truth Corrodeds lead guitarist Corey Grieve has amicably left the band. Corey has not been performing with the band for the past several months and did not tour with the band during the recent Asian tour. Unable to commit any further due to personal circumstances, Corey made the decision to leave the band after assessing the future commitments required to be a member of Truth Corroded. Corey has been with Truth Corroded for five years, joining after the band reformed in mid-2003 and played a significant role in the development of the band’s sound and identity. As a lead guitarist Corey is outstanding, but above all, as a friend he is invaluable. His membership will be missed but we thank him for his brilliant musical contributions and several years of endurance and very good times. We wish Corey the very best for his future endeavours, and be assured Corey will be making a contribution to the next Truth corroded recording.
Truth Corroded would like to welcome Darren McClennen as the new lead guitarist. Darren has been performing with the band since Sept.2008, making his debut at the Against The Grain festival and recently toured with the band in Asia. Darren has had several years experience performing with local bands The Harrowed and Sarsekim. With Darren’s experience, performance and exceptional guitar work, his addition to the band will continue the bands ascendance as one of Australia's longest running and leading thrash metal acts. Truth Corroded will begin writing the follow up to the highly successful 'Upon the Warlords Crawl' album before setting out on a national tour in April-June.

FULL BATTLE ORDER TOUR OF DUTY ASIA – Tour Diary By Greg Damon Shaw This is the tour diary for Truth Corroded's FULL BATTLE ORDER TOUR OF DUTY ASIA as told by Truth Corroded bassist Greg Damon Shaw. The band would like to acknowledge Bret from Mourning Sound Records and Kimi from Mind Your Head Promotions for organising the tour and their incredible effort along the way. Our respect and thanks- you rule. Truth Corroded want to extend our thanks to our touring partners Bhelliom for being the best band you could ever hope to tour with and for having such an awesome time- lets do it again. We would also like to thank the Chinese and Thai heavy metal scene, bands and audience's alike, for being so very fucken cool and crazy. Our special thanks to ARTSA for making this happen- your support is greatly appreciated. Oct.23- Well here we go- off to Hong Kong, China and Thailand for a two week tour and we just have no idea what to expect. We are hell excited but also ponderous about how it will all go. Questions of " Are we going to be playing to 3 people, 30 people or 300 people? Hell, what if its 3000 people!!! " and "Are we going to get arrested and deported?" So we really did not know what to expect. We left Adelaide, via Singapore and arrived late in the evening in Hong Kong. At the airport we were greeted by the promoters from Mind Your Head, head honcho Kimi and trouble shooter Allen. At first we encountered the immediate difficulty of understanding our bogan accents- evident by Kimi and Allen's looks of bewilderment and bemusement. Once we arrived at the hotel we proceeded to demonstrate our other talent outside of playing thrash metal- the fine art of beer drinking. 7/11 serve beer 24/7 and super cheap!! Joy!! Tsing Tao and San Miguel became our new best friends in Asia. Oct.24- The first day was a day off to explore Hong Kong. Kimi met us in the morning to take us out for a traditional Yum Cha breakfast. Cultural/language fuck up lesson number one!! Kimi translated our order, but with Liam insisting that he eats lots and with us not realising how much was provided in each serve, we were left slack jawed when it took an army of waitresses to bring out our meal- which they stacked higher and higher until the table resembled the Great Wall Of China!! Kimi did not bat an eyelid, possibly thinking we were fat enough to eat it all. We tried, really hard, to the point were we actually felt ill. Kimi was also amused ( as were much of the restaurant ) by how inept we were with chop sticks- useless. Allen arrived at the restaurant and was shocked at how much food we had ordered- he proceeded to bury his head in his hands, with a look of agony and exclaim 'Oh Nooooooo' This was repeated every few minutes for the rest of the time we were around Allen- haha! Allen was our escort for the day to show us around Hong Kong until our touring buddies Bhelliom arrived from Singapore later thet evening. After a tour meeting Mark, Jason, Kimi and myself went out to take in the Hong Kong night life and meet up with a good ex-pat mate of ours Ryan ( who some of you may know as the former drummer with Adelaide band Enemy Of ) It was a big night in the Red Light District of Hong Kong- lots of people partying from all around the world- awesome times. We showed Kimi how to drink in fine Australian fashion- she made the night by making sure we understood that she loved Beijing- its an in joke, but if she is reading this she will be laughing. Oct.25- Gig day! The first show of the tour at the Hong Kong Youth Outreach. The venue was a basketball stadium with an excellent set up - staging, back line, digital back drop for each band, and a great turn out- way to go Kimi and Mind Your Head! Performing alongside us were two outstanding Hong Kong bands that we encourage all to check out- Evocation and Hyponic- awesome! The show was outstanding, the crowd absolutely manic! For 'We Are Failed' the crowd did a full room circle pit, for 'The Disfiguring' the crowd participated in a full room wall of death- it was all limbs and chaos- and for the encore of 'The Cull' our touring lead guitarist Darren crowd surfed for the entire song! Killer show! We did not know whether the response to the rest of the tour could match Hong Kong ( but we were yet to be suprised )- it was a memorable show and one of the best we have ever experienced- Hong Kong you rule! Lots of photo's and autographs followed and we sold lots of merchandise- could not be happier and it was the best possible way to kick off the tour. Oct.26- Today we left for China. Both Bhelliom and ourselves were pumped for the next show in Shen Zhen. The city is just over the border from Hong Kong with a 40+ million population- a big and very modern city. We arrived at the venue, Base Bar, and to our suprise Napalm Death had played there- awesome! The show was a smaller turn out than Hong Kong, but the crowd more than made up for its size through sheer metal mania with a crazy pit and great support- also language is no barrier when it comes to metal! Show your horns and we all speak a universal language. Big thanks to local promoter Max for his effort and good times. After the show we returned to the hotel to freshen up but were keen to party. However, there is a 2am curfew in Shen Zhen, so by the time we left the venue and got ready to party it was to late to get a taste of the night life as everywhere was closed- so thank the Chinese gods for having a 7/11 across the road from the hotel!! We decided to just hang out the front of the 7/11 and drink up like true South Aussie bogans on a street corner- what happened next was one of the most awesome experiences on the tour. We were drinking up with the Bhelliom lads when we noticed that this middle aged man had walked past us several times and was looking at us with curiousity ( or maybe disapproval- we weren't sure ) Finally he stopped and spoke in Chinese to one of the Bhelliom lads and informed him that he would like to set up some tables and chairs for us and buy us some beer and food! His name was Sah Bing, and he arranged tables and chairs to be set up on the street corner and had a dude on a bike ride back and forth providing us with crates of beer and food - needless to say it got pretty loose! Kimi broke out a bottle of vodka and things were getting crazy- at this point, Gene, the drummer from Bhelliom, dropped his pants for a photo oppurtunity and with all the hoo-hah going on the Police arrived. But not to worry, Sah Bing had a word to them and it was all good- green light to keep partying! Sah Bing was a legend and someone we will never forget. Oct.27- Whoa- hang over! Today- thankfully- was a day off. Truth Corroded decided that we would explore the city and do some shopping. Shen Zhen is a huge city and demonstrates the growth of China- the city is full of skyscrapers and chain stores such as Mc Donalds, Starbucks and KFC- it was in many respects just like Sydney or Melbourne , but, we were the only Westerners we saw that day! Where ever we went the Chinese would look at us with curiousity and we gathered that not many tourists must travel through the city. It was cool though. While the city was a representation of the influence of western capitalism, it also showed a side to life we were not accustomed to- misfortune. Street beggars with terrible deformities, either through disease, or as we were sadly informed, mutilation by the individuals family in order to beg. You could not empathise with the down and out addict or alccoholic we are more accustomed to seeing in Australia- they need to see the plight of these people. Oct.28- Today we travelled to Guang Zhou- one of China's largest cities with a population of over 60 million. We arrived at the venue. Jason conducted an on air interview with Andrew Haug for Full Metal Racket and we returned to the venue to find that it was near capacity- but filled with a mixed selection of people listening to lounge jazz?!!? We thought "Have they, or we, got the right venue?" The first band of the night performed a kind of alternative Brit pop sound and did a Jeff Buckley cover, so by this stage we were thinking we were going to empty the venue from the first chord. But at the end of the bands set they thanked us in Chinese for coming to perform and the audience turned toward us and gave us a huge applause. Next up was a punk/core band and the crowd started to stir, a pit broke out and we were hopeful but still bewildered. And then the mighty local death/black metal band Dissected took the stage and the crowd erupted!! Phew! This band are incredible- an awesome and very brutal, dark sound. Great dudes as well. Bhelliom took to the stage and the crowd were manic. All was going real well and then the power went out. Guang Zhou is a hot place, the venue was sold out, and without air conditioning the temperature sky rocketed in minutes. While we waited for the power to be sorted out we sweated so much it felt like we had already played! When we took the stage we knew that this was going to be a crazy show- and without a doubt it was sheer metal fucken frantic mania- the crowd were awesome and gave us an experience we will be smiling about in many years to come- this was the most intense ( and hottest ) show I think we have ever experienced! By the end of the set we were all ready to pass out. Thank you Guang Zhou- you fucken rule!! A big thanks to Lou-Lou and Dissected for putting on the show- we will be back! Oct.29- Today we flew to the other side of China to Tian Jin- a city 100km's from Beijing. The city was very different from the other cities we had toured and was a clash of new and old China. The smallest show of the tour. Oct.30- We travelled by train to Beijing. Today was a day off and we travelled to the Bandaling section of the Great Wall Of China, 80km's outside of Beijing. It was an incredible experience and an awe inspiring construction. After the Great Wall we returned to Beijing and found a bar near our hotel were we proceeded to have a massive drink up with the lads from Bhelliom, Bret from Mourning Sound, Kimi from Mind Your Head, the Japanese band that were playing with us the next night GSD ( awesome dudes ) and two German backpackers Chris and Julian ( top lads! ) It was a huge night that culminated in Gene and Vivek from Bhelliom stripping down to their jocks and racing back to the hotel! Fucken big laughs! Oct.31- Gig day! Also big hang over day with a 10am sound check- oooo, ouch! The gig was at Mao Live House, one of Beijings premiere venues. Tonight we were supporting the mighty Polish death/black metal band BEHEMOTH!!! An awesome honour! After sound check we explored the Forbidden City- it was a highly impressive structure and an example of ancient Imperial China.Following the Forbidden City we became real bad ass men of metal when we ate Scorpion!! The gig was sold out and featured a true 'Global Metal' line up- Bhelliom from Singapore, Truth Corroded from Australia, GSD from Japan and headliners Behemoth from Poland performing in Beijing China!! Awesome! The crowd were incredible and gave each band an awesome reception-for us it was the biggest show of the tour and a great way to end the China dates. Other highlights were GSD from Japan who are an incredible band- they performed a Slayer cover 'Raining Blood / Angel of Death' at twice the speed and I went nuts along with the rest of the crowd. Behemoth were totally fucken mind blowing and ripped the place apart!! After the show we hung out with people from all corners of the globe- Mexicans, South Americans, Germans, Americans, Japanese, Ukrainians, Singaporeans and of course the Chinese ( and it also demonstrated what a global city that Beijing had become ) A great night and no better way to end the China tour. Nov.1- Today we were leaving China for Bangkok,Thailand. It was sad to be going as we really liked our experience in China and could have kept touring- but we will definately be back! Also it was sad because we were leaving our girl and tour manager/promoter Kimi who had been by our side at every move since Hong Kong. Thank you for everything Kimi- you did an amazing job, and will be a friend for life! Cant wait to see you again- keep practicing the Bogan we taught you-haha! The trip to Thailand involved a flight from Beijing to Guang Zhou, and then from there to Bangkok. It was a full day of travel. We arrived in Bangkok late in the afternoon and proceeded to our most high class accomodation on the tour The Radisson! Nov.2- My Birthday! Oh, and Last gig of the tour- Beast Attack at The Rock Pub Bangkok. Our label mates Truth Be Known had flown in from Singapore to join us-great fucken band that also features members of Bhelliom. We were joined by Thai metal acts Melodius ( who played an awesome cover of 'Painkiller' by Judas Priest ), Sinskids and Dark Wing- top class bands! Thai metal rules! Some Aussie lads from Brissy came along and definately got the crowd moving- thanks for your support lads! It was an awesome show and the Thai metal scene gave us an awesome finale to the tour. After the show we had our farewell with our touring partners Bhelliom- thank you for the brotherhood and sharing in an awesome touring experience, could not hope to tour with a better band or great friends- and also farewell to our other labelmates Truth Be Known ( we need to tour together! Lets do it! ) Last, but far from least, our mainman Bret, head honcho of the mighty Mourning Sound Records- brother, thank you for your support and organising the tour- you are an incredible label manager and even better friend- you fucken rule Bret-ey ( haha! ) Oh, and Mary says hi. And so it sadly ends. The tour was an amazing experience and some of the best shows we have ever had. We cannot wait to return and go on to explore more of the Asian metal scene. The bands and audiences were incredible and demonstrate how global metal truly is. Thanks to all in China and Thailand for the support and good times. You Rule! HORNS!!! TC.

TRUTH CORRODED UPON THE WARLORDS CRAWL CD REVIEW Tsunami Mag- By Mat
TRUTH CORRODED
UPON THE WARLORDS CRAWL
TRUTH INC RECORDS
8/10
This is Truth Corroded's third release, and my first introduction to the band, so I guess I'll have to take their word for it when they say this is their most accomplished album to date. I believe them, though, because this is one killer album with strong thrash roots such as Slayer, Dark Angel and early Sepultura. These are all very apparent influences within their constant, furious riffing, however Truth Corroded don't have that old-school thrash sound, they keep it modern and relevant to today's metal scene sounding similar to Lamb of God with hints of Chimaira. The track 'We Are Failed!' has strong links to early Sepultura mixed with Lamb of God, making it the standout of the album along with 'Decimate', which has a very memorable solo that rivals Kerry King. Any fan of straight-up thrash should give this a try - it will not disappoint (Matt).

TRUTH CORRODED UPON THE WARLORDS CRAWL CD REVIEW
BLISTERING.COm - By Justin Donnelly
TRUTH CORRODED
UPON THE WARLORDS CRAWL
TRUTH INC RECORDS
After a lengthy period of four years of inactivity, Adelaide (South Australia) based thrash band Truth Corroded reintroduced themselves to the metal scene with their sophomore effort Our Enemy Is The Weapon in 2005, the follow up to 2001's Begin.
Our Enemy Is The Weapon represented a huge change of sound for the band, with the maturity of their years away clearly heard throughout the album. Needless to say, the album was a huge success, with the band continuously criss-crossing the country in front of ever-growing gig goers.
Three years on and the band are back once again with Upon The Warlords Crawl. And much like the growth between their first two releases, the band's third full-length effort is a huge step in every conceivable way.
"Crown The Apocalypse" is an absolutely crushing opener, and showcases just how much Truth Corroded has improved over their three years on the road. The fast paced blackened thrash like riffing provided by Mark Lennard and Corey Grieve is every bit as impressive as the drumming handled admirably by newcomer Liam Okninski, while Jason North's demonic growls and scathing lyrical message has never before sounded so potent and determined.
The equally fast "The Immolation Seen" is as every bit as damaging as the opener, with some additional memorable lead work from Grieve adding some melody to the hammering tune, while the groove laden pair of "Salute The Horrors" and "Decimate" are as impressive as anything to emerge from either Lamb Of God or DevilDriver in recent times.
"Buried Alive By Demons" and "When God Is Murder" are by far the album's most anthem like tracks with their catchy choruses, huge chugging riffs and stunning leads breaks, while the frantically paced "We Are Failed!," "The Waste That Is Their Word" which is preceded by "(Dust)" and features some great quotes from 2007's Sunshine along with "The Disfiguring" counterbalance the former by completely thrashing out.
Finishing up the album is the epic "Despair Your Black Earth", where with the help of Double Dragon vocalist Lee Gardiner, the band experiment with slower and darker grooves (especially in the guitar tones), with amazing results.
As impressive as Our Enemy Is The Weapon was three years ago, Truth Corroded have well and truly outdone themselves with Upon The Warlords Crawl. And given the success that they had with the last album, it doesn't take a genius to understand that Upon The Warlords Crawl is going to really take the band to the next level in no time at all.

Current mood:Metal Thrashing Mad
Just when we though the reviews couldn't get any better for the new album up comes the review from Music SA, you can read it by scrolling down or clicking here. (Its a damn killer review) TRUTH CORRODED UPON THE WARLORDS CRAWL CD REVIEW MUSIC SA - By Stu Wright Upon the Warlord's Crawl is Truth Corroded's follow-up to the 2005 release Our Enemy is the Weapon, and is without doubt the bands most accomplished album to date. Recorded between October and December of 2007, at both Soundhouse Studio and Slaughterhouse Studios in Adelaide, the band utilised sound engineer Kyle Bloksgaard for the entire recording. The album was then sent to Black Lounge Studio in Sweden to be mixed and mastered by Jonas Kjellgren (Scar Symmetry, Carnal Forge, The Absence). And what an inspired decision this has been, for if Upon the Warlord's Crawl does not provide Truth Corroded with a European platform for their music, then something has gone VERY wrong. That's right...it's THAT good. 'Crown The Apocalypse' opens with intense double kick and furious dual riffing, and I got the immediate impression of Florida Death Metal legends 'Morbid Angel'. Is Liam Okninsky really Pete Sandoval? Well, not quite...but he could be. Truth Corroded must be very happy with his inclusion for this recording, as his drumming throughout Upon the Warlord's Crawl is exceptional. This is no light praise; I know Percussion and Liam is near world class. The new album features four of the members from the last album - Jason North on vocals, Mark Lennard on guitar, Greg Damon Shaw on bass (all original members of Truth Corroded since its inception a decade ago) and Corey Grieve on lead guitar, with Liam being the latest inclusion. Upon listening to the album, one can hear that this line-up synch so well that they must stay together. However, that's often easier said than done in the realms of musical expression. 'The Immolation Seen' kicks in like the best Slayer change, urgent and brutal. 'Salute the Horrors' has an awesome groove, and runs through its 3:35 so quickly you sadly wonder where it's gone. 'Decimate' is a multi-faceted composition, with several changes and some very Marty Friedman styled 90s leads. The fret work from guitarists Mark Lennard and Corey Grieve is top class throughout this recording, with intelligent if not slightly familiar rhythms, technically impressive lead work and a good variety of sounds from both players. 'Buried Alive By Demons'' is a well layered, epic tune; overall, there is good balance between speed, heaviness and darkness throughout the recording. The bands lyrics and message have always reflected the social/political views of the bands lyricists Mark Lennard and Greg Damon, and do so with this album, challenging questions of religion, neo-Imperialism and the environment. 'We Are Failed' equals HEAVY; listen to this through a good system and you will truly appreciate the time that has gone into getting every sound just right. Not easy when everything is this low, loud and frantic. 'When God Is Murder' has one of the best CHUGS that I've heard on a CD in a long time, absolutely fantastic and totally in keeping the feel of the rest of the album. (DUST) is a well conceived and executed interlude into the brutal, highly political sentiment with brick like subtlety that marks 'The Waste That Is Their Word'. 'The Disfiguring' feels like where Slayer should be now (this would've ruled on CHRIST ILLUSION, however I digress...), before rounding out with 'Despair Your Black Earth' (featuring Lee Gardiner from Double Dragon). Sepultura, Neurosis, Dark Angel, Slayer, Obituary, Forbidden, Isis, The Haunted, Testament, Lamb of God, Morbid Angel...it's all in there. The trick is how well Truth Corroded has done it... Scary, Dark Thrash combined with the urgent feel of Death Metal, tried by many but accomplished competently by few, the boys nail it with such passion and desperation, it is truly inspiring and a surprisingly easy listen. Then, you remember that this is an ADELAIDE band...however they may not be here for long based on the strength of this release. Without doubt the best metal recording I've heard, from ANYWHERE, in quite a while. Buy it. Stu Wright

TRUTH CORRODED UPON THE WARLORDS CRAWL TRUTH INC RECORDS 7.5/10Truth Corroded's third release heralds almost a coming of age for the band. After their two previous release showed signs of promise though were seen as sub par due to their song writing and production, the band has now capitalised on an improvement in these areas and has created a piece of work they can be truly proud of – Upon The Warlord's Crawl. The addition of drummer Liam Okninsky to the band's ranks has paid dividends with one of the major notable aspects of the album being his powerful drumming throughout the whole 45 minutes of the album. With guitar solos throughout, matched with some catchy chorus hooks that work hand in hand with the riffing guitars, these Adelaide boys leave you with 'stuck in your head' material – I personally suffered a severe case of 'Buried Alive By Demons' chorus fever. In fact the whole track 'Buried Alive By Demons' is in my opinion one of the best on the album. With a long build up, the song is met by quite an epic sounding track of effective simplicity often seen in tracks by Dark Tranquillity. Another highlight of the album is the song 'Decimate'. A solid riffage attack complete with a nice with guitar solo, this song is perhaps the one that will confirm to you that the album is one that can be kept on solid rotation without you getting bored of it. While generally I don't like taking any focus away from the music, I simply must point out the artwork of the album. Going right throughout the booklet, the art created by vocalist Jason North goes hand in hand with the band's social and political lyrics. With topical content ranging from religion, environmental issues, politics and the military industrial complex, Truth Corroded have shown themselves to be one of the forerunners in the Australian scene when it comes to lyrical content. Overall, with its good production, catchy hooks and chorus', Truth Corroded deliver 11 tracks of dominating thrash which offers the listener an unrelenting foray into the true world of thrash metal. For fans of: Lamb of God, The Haunted, Testament. Track Listing: 1. Crown The Apocalypse 2. The Immolation Seen 3. Salute the Horrors 4. Decimate <– Reviewers Choice 5. Buried Alive By Demons 6. (TRANSLATED TO ENGLISH) With the release of „Upon The Warlords Crawl" on their own label Truth Inc. the Australians present us their third output. Believing the bands own words (and not knowing the first two albums) the guys have stayed true to their thrash-roots, but have managed to pull the right strings to modern metal-sounds like Lamb Of God and Chimaira, when talking about songwriting. Finally they also have put in some darker influences in the vain of band-faves Neurosis. Also this time Truth Corroded are very satisfied with the production. After recording "Upon…" in their hometown Adelaide in two different studios, they..ve sent the tapes for mixing and mastering to the hands of Jonas Kjellgren in Black Lodge-studios in Sweden who has convinced the band with his works for Scar Symmetry and Carnal Forge. With their up to date-mix of Old and New School sounds, the aggressive basics – which fit perfectly to the pissed/critically lyrics - and the 100%-attitude to give all, the doors should be opened wide for the South-Australians. While Thrash- (Slayer, Dark Angel, Sepultura)fans will love the opening-track „Crown The Apocalypse" and the hooks in „Salute The Horrors" and „Decimate" (cool song!), the favourite song for the listeners who prefer the darker side of metal will be the title „Despair Your Black Earth". You can get this 11-track-album for 20 Aussie-Dollars (incl p & p) through www. truthcorroded. com ; www. myspace. com/truthcorroded ; www. myspace. com/truthincrecords , while the asian licence-pressing from Mourning Sound-records in Singapore just comes out these days. For Europe and the USA the guys are still searching for a licence-deal. 8/10 Stephan Becker for www. obliveon. de Check out Obliveon here June. 2008 TRUTH CORRODED UPON THE WARLORDS CRAWL CD REVIEW THE METAL FORGE
TRUTH CORRODED UPON THE WARLORDS CRAWL TRUTH INC RECORDS 9/10Killer death metal from the city of Churches and serial killers Truth Corroded's debut long player, 2001's Begin, caught my attention. I couldn't really nail down why but something about it lead me to wanting to see them live at Brisbane's (Australia) Overcranked festival the following year. They impressed but this was only the beginning of even better things to come. After a rough patch, disbandment and some indecision, they re-grouped to unleash 2005's excellent The Enemy Is Our Weapon. It was an album that saw a new focus, some new faces in the band's line-up and plenty of brutal metal to boot. So it was with much anticipation that I sat down to tackle their latest effort, dubbed Upon The Warlords Crawl. Right from the get-go, as Crown The Apocalypse unleashes its unrelenting attack, you get the vibe that Truth Corroded are onto something special. It has a bit of a Devildriver like vibe to it, which isn't a bad thing in small doses of course and Jason North's vocals at times have that Chuck Schuldiner (Death, Control Denied) snarl to them which simply adds to the ferocity of their aural attack. There's no relief in sight either as The Immolation Seen savagely takes hold and even the mid paced Salute The Horrors contains enough venom to keep aggo-meter in the red. There's plenty of variety to be found within the aptly named Decimate, the slow building epic Buried Alive By Demons and the sinister sounding rhythms of We Are Failed keep the flow of the album alive and well. The almost Gorefest like chug of When God Is Murder continues to mix things up without straying out of character and has been the case with each track so far, the fret work from guitarists Mark Lennard and Corey Grieve has been top class. Of course, a solid rhythm section provided by bassist Greg Damon and drummer Liam Okninski ensures that this well oiled machine never skips a beat. The noise and sample based interlude (Dust) provides a brief passage of breathing space before the quintet launch at full speed into the Devildriver-esque The Waste That Is Their Word. There's a strong Death vibe to the excellent The Disfiguring before the crushing behemoth of a finale, Despair Your Black Earth which features guest vocals by Lee Gardiner of Double Dragon, brings proceedings to an end. There really are some gems in the Aussie metal scene all around the country, and the one shining the brightest in South Australia right now is clearly Truth Corroded. Upon The Warlords Crawl is easily their most brutal and focussed work to date and things are clearly on the up and up for this quintet, and deservedly so as well. TRUTH CORRODED UPON THE WARLORDS CRAWL TRUTH INC RECORDS 8/10Stand Out Tracks The Immolation Seen Salute The Horrors When God Is Murder Bearing similarities to Lamb of God in their delivery and tonality South Australian band, has toured Australia and Asia. Being a virgin listener to this South Australian based metal band, I can say that first impressions last. And these first impressions bruise! truth Corroded have most definitely taken careful time in producing this latest work "Upon The Warlords Crawl", good things always come to those who wait. From the opening few tracks, "The Immolation Seen" is an immediate standout and should become a welcom addition to any metal fans playlist. Bearing similarities to Lamb of God in their tonality and SYL through their soundwalls, Truth Corroded's message is clear... great atrocities await us all in due time unless we as a race of humanity stamp out the causes now. Blastong 5 piece metal searing through the heads of those who choose to heed the warning Check out Steel Press here June. 2008 TRUTH CORRODED INTERVIEW RAVE MAGAZINE - BRISBANE. AUSTRALIA In one word and three punctuation marks, TRUTH CORRODED's vocalist JASON NORTH summarises an entire set of the South Australian five piece. TOM HERSEY takes notes. What metal head could argue when that one word is "THRASH" and those three punctuation marks are "!!!"? What started out in the '80s as a few bands combining the aggression of punk with the speed and technicality of metal went on to give the world bands like Metallica (at least pre-black album Metallica), Slayer and Sepultura. However, as history repeats itself and thrash has become cool again, a myriad of bands are casting its good name into disrepute. Truth Corroded's latest album, Upon the Warlords Crawl, proves that despite the insidious crass commercialisation of the genre, thrash metal shouldn't be discredited just yet. Jason said that to make an album that stood out from their weaker international contemporaries, they had to return to the true roots of thrash. "The bands that influenced us and gave us the inspiration to write music were the bands that created the thrash sound, and these bands continue to produce outstanding if not career defining albums today. Testament, Exodus and Kreator have all released new albums that stand alongside their greatest work and even could be considered their greatest work. These bands invented the sound and continue to define the sound - not these metalcore or emo bands that are desperately seeking to be stand outs by attempting to re-invent the wheel and call it their own." The influences of bands like Testament, Exodus and Kreator can really be identified on Truth Corroded's third full length. When the conversation turns the band heading up to Brisbane in support of Upon The Warlords Crawl an innocuous comment about the drive from Adelaide to Brisbane elicits an impassioned response. "Fuck no! Never again! We fly - the drive is killer! We drove back to Adelaide after we came up to play Overcranked one year. On the way back, at least we thought it was the way back, we some how ended up heading to Darwin! After all we are South Australian - and were probably really stoned as well. We drove back the entire way without rest and it took 22 hours. It is a good road trip story but also a retarded idea." Although Truth Corroded might not be the biggest fans of the commute, they say that they've always enjoyed playing Brisbane because of their friends in the local scene. "We have played in the sunshine state several times and really enjoy playing there. Every time we have, we have had a great time and over each successive appearance have made new friends and partied with old ones. You have a good vibe in QLD and some outstanding bands such as Lynchmada, The Crisis Therapy and State Of Integrity. We miss the lads from Devolved, they're good mates of ours and we have shared the stage with them further down the coast many times back in the day. It's a pity that Minus Life aren't around anymore, but no doubt we will be seeing some former members for a few beers and a laugh." Check out Rave Magazine here
