Rock and Roll Diary

Last night I played at The Abington Alehouse.

The Venue
The Abington Alehouse is a great venue located on Route 18 in Abington MA.  It has both a restuarant and lounge.  During the summer they have an outdoor patio area and at Halloween time there is a haunted house that runs right next door.

The Show
This was a solo show.  It went really well.  My voice was shaky all day and I was a little worried that it may be a tough gig but after a warm up the vocal chords loosened up.

There was an awesome crowd last night and people seemed to really be enjoying themselves.  There were a number of birthday's being celebrated.  I played a number of tunes by request and some people from the crowd got into the act and came up to sing.

The gentleman on the right in the picture above got up and sang a classic Irish tune "Bog Down in the Valley."

My friend Brenda got up and sang a Gordon Lightfoot song "If You Could Read My Mind" AKA the Ghost Song. :-)

At the end of the evening a final guest performer sang along on a couple of tunes.

There were a bunch of nice folks having fun at the Alehouse that night.

Fun Times At KC's

The rock and roll adventures continue and last night was a wicked good night!

The Venue
KC's Pub and Grill on Route 53 in Weymouth is a little bit sports bar, a little bit rock and roll club, and a whole bunch of good times with a dash of great food thrown in.

The Show
Last night the show included my life long friend Mike Shea on the drums.  Mike and I were in a our first band together and have been 'jamming' since we were kids.

Special Guests
Chrissy White made an appearance and played her amazing flute and sang for most of the first set.  The tunes have a really special quality and uniqueness when Chrissy is in the act.  A highlight is always when she plays a flute solo at the end of Stairway to Heaven and then goes into that screaming Robert Plant vocal at the end of the song.

My friend Billy Lawnsby who played drums on my CD 'Sky's The Limit' was in the house and he got up to play on a couple of songs.  Billy is a great drummer and it was awesome to play with Billy again.

THE ASS KICKER WAS IN THE HOUSE!
My dear friend Jenn Reeves was in the house last night!  Jenn was the inspiration for the breast cancer survivor song and video She's An Ass Kicker.  I played the tune and dedicated it to Jenn.  It was nice too because Billy Lawnsby who played drums on the recording was able to play on that song.  Today she is the picture of health and that's a beautiful picture!

Special People Make the Night Special
Last night our friend Dick McCarthy's dad was at the show with his friend.  This was a huge treat for Mike and I because Mr. McCarthy was a big supporter of our band efforts when we were teenagers.  He let us make a hell of a racket in his basement night after night.  Mr McCarthy was always supportive and encouraging to us when we were just learning how to rock and roll.  Being able to play some Johnny Cash while watching Mr McCarthy and his friend dance around the dance floor was the greatest thing ever.

My brother Walter and his wife Donna and my sister Loretta and her husband Macca were at the show last night.  They have favorites so I made sure to play those tunes before they had to take off.

My friend Brenda along with her husband Jim and her whole crew of happy campers came to the show last night.  If you look up good times in a dictionary there is a picture of Brenda and all of her friends.  I have had sooo many good times with these folks since they started coming out to shows.  It was especially great to see Ernie and Debbie dancing and singing and having a blast with the whole crew.  Not to mention that I was finally ready to play Charlie on the MTA if I was asked.

My friends Kim and Keith came out to the show with some friends. Kim loves the Beatles and I played Norwegian Wood for her last night.  It was great to see them and especially cool to see Keith with the 'team haircut.'

Magic Moments

It doesn't happen every show but when it does it is awesome.  Every once in a while there really is a magic moment.  Last night that moment was at the end of the evening when we played Danny's Song by request and just about everyone in the placed danced and sang along.

Even though we aint got money
I'm so in love with you honey
everything will bring a chain of Love
In the morning when I rise
Brings a tear of joy to my eyes
you tell me everything is gonna be alright

I didn't want the song to end.

Some Rockers From My Past
The night was full of surprises and it was nice to see some old band mates stop in for a few tunes, Guy and Paulie from the Gulf Boys and Sharky.  I almost fell over when Guy requested 'Leave Your Hat On' :-)

The Road Ahead
Next Saturday night I will playing at The Abington Alehouse and the adventures continue.

BC CD TBD

It has been a while since I have written a blog.  This blog is kind of a good news bad news blog.  First the bad news.

This is an update to take note that my goal of producing a new CD of BC survivor songs to help raise money is still a work in progress (slow to no progress lately).  I want the CD to be really great.  It won't be ready in 2009.

Now the good news.

The public service announcement music video (Jenn's song 'She's An Ass Kicker') has had thousands of views online.  Hoping it saves a life someday.

I was able to play a couple of breast cancer benefit shows to help out my friend Nikilette this year.

Things take time. Haven't given up on the goal.

Reflections on Summer 2009 At Marina Bay

Well it has been I while since I have taken some time for reflection to blog about the music adventures and this weekend seems like a good one to just take a look back over the summer.  This blog is about the shows at The Skyline at Marina Bay.

Beautiful summer sunsets and good times with friends are something to be thankful for.

This week my friends Ernie and Jacqui came by to listen to the tunes and enjoy the surroundings at Marina Bay.  Thanks to Jacqui there are some beautiful pics to remember the evening by.  It was a fun night.  Ernie always requests some originals to keep me on my toes .  I played a number of originals on Thursday and got some nice feedback from folks in the crowd.

There have been many beautiful nights and awesome Sunday brunch music sessions too this summer.

Danielle and Michael came by on an awesome evening and Michael joined me for a couple tunes.

I played my first bridal shower this summer :-)

Leslie and Johnny came by for a brunch and challenged me to play some Woodstock tunes

Lots of family and friends came out for the tunes at the marina this summer. Special people always make times more special.

There definately were many memorable moments too many to blog about or have pictures for but here are some...

This is one of my favorite photos so far this year.  When she whipped a fake little microphone out of her pocketbook to sing Sweet Caroline it really got my attention.
