Hey Everyone,

So it turns out our terrible website hosting people wouldn't let us pay for our address, we kept trying to give them money, but they didn't seem to want to take it (Pages Garden, or something like that, they're truly awful).

I won't remind you what the website address was because apparently our old address is now a porn site.  Thanks to Holly for bringing this to our attention.  Please accept our apology if you accidentally visited this site expecting some sweet indie-rock-folk tunes, and getting something much more ...  R rated...

In other news, Matt is back from his jaunt overseas so perhaps there might be some Triangles activity, but perhaps not too.  Early days.  He probably still has culture shock anyway, so best we get him some therapy first.

If you're looking for something interesting/fun to read, look up Korean Fan Death on Wikipedia, you won't regret it.

Hi there everyone.

The sad news is, the Triangles are going on an indefinite hiatus. This is happening because one of the Triangles is going overseas for a year. It may happen that around this time next year, we'll get back together and play some more shows. But there's also a chance that around that time other members of the band will be going overseas to live, possibly for several years. If this happens, then the band will have played its last gig for a long time, if not its last gig ever.

It may seem excessive to put the band on ice due the departure of just one member, but the Triangles have always been about the five of us playing together. If the remaining members of the band end up playing shows or doing anything else, we'll do so under a different name. For the record, we still love each other, and if circumstances were different, we'd keep on going. The last four and a bit years with the band has been a real blast, and for what its worth, we are very, very grateful to all you kind and generous people who have supported our music: friends, fans, radio djs, venues, other bands, music licensing people, our families, and particularly Nic Dalton from Half A Cow Records, who has released two cds of our music. You're all champs in our books!

Of
course, you can still buy our latest record from all the usual online locations and some stores (http://www.halfacow.com.au/).

For those of you who don't live in Melbourne, we're sorry that we haven't been able to visit you and play shows in quite a while. Other things in life have been making heavy demands on our time and energy. For those of you who are in Melbourne, if you want to farewell us with a final hurrah, we'll be having a party on Sunday the 30th of September to celebrate the good times. The Triangles will be playing a few numbers at the party, so this will be one final opportunity for you to listen to us warble, strum and bang. If you want the details (time, location, etc.) send us a message and we'll reply with the details.

On that note, we must say good-bye and wish you all the very best!

Love from The Triangles: Eleanor, Julie, Matt, Katherine and Robert.

Not much has been happening lately in Triangle land. For at least some members of the band, other things in life have recently jostled their way to front position on the list of priorities.

But on a completely unrelated matter, a very cool melbourne-based music website called wireless bollinger has just published a glowing review of our recently released album seventy-five year plan.

http://www.wirelessbollinger.com/reviews/music_reviews/seventy-five_year_plan/

It's really nice when other people like your music, and even nicer, I suppose, when they write intelligently about why they like it.

There are some interesting remarks in the review about our lyrics, and it got me to thinking: what sort of lyrics do I like, and why. At first blush, I think I know what lyrical qualities I don't like, namely: earnestness, over-reaching sentimentality, cleverness, unselfconscious use of cliche, humourlessness, and rampant egocentricity. But then it's strange, because there are lots of songs that I really like in which these qualities are very much present. And thus I am led to a fairly mundane conclusion. I don't really have any idea why I like the lyrics that I do. Speaking personally, I have probably written about three or four songs in the history of the Triangles that I feel satisfied with on a lyrical level. Maybe if I knew better what I liked and why, I would find it easier to write songs that I myself enjoy. But maybe not.

In conclusion, here are some songs that I think have really good lyrics.

Break Away - The Beach Boys
     Neighbourhood 1 - Arcade Fire
A Wolf at the Door - Radiohead
Ruby Tuesday - The Rolling Stones
     Hunter - Bjork
     Shipbuilding - Elvis Costello
     Cloudbusting - Kate Bush
     Fall on Me - REM

And, in a slightly different way to these ones, I also really like

Cover it With Gas and Set in on Fire - Ween
The Cheesecake Song - King Missile

Cheerio,

- Robert.

So we're launching our new album Seventy-Five Year Plan in a couple of weeks' time at Northcote Social Club in Melbourne (other Australian cities will follow, but this one's the launch, if you know what I mean). The thing is, right, you spend a year and a half working on an album, then the album is released, then you do a launch for it, and then it's all over... I suppose that's why we're going to try (note: try) to make this show a whopping ripper, so to speak. In addition to a tearaway set of hair-straightening rock and roll from the Triangles, the show will also feature some tasty coconut snacks, showbags, a trampourine, a long white stick, stray dogs walking around on stage, and our very special guestfriends Duckdive, playing a lovely introductory set. So get involved! You love it you slags. Once again, it's Sunday the 20th of May at Northcote Social Club, doors open 8pm, and entry is $10. Also, special deals for those wishing to purchase our album will be available on the night.

Album
First off, we have just released a new album on Half A Cow Records; it's called Seventy-Five Year Plan. This is the second of our albums that has been released on record a label and the fourth album overall that we have recorded. 75YP features 13 songs with a kind of psychedelic rock/country-pop sound, and it took us about 15 months to record (but a good six or seven of those were spent doing other things). Anyway, if you dig our music, you can buy the album at the Half A Cow website (http://www.halfacow.com.au/) or at most independent record stores in Australia.

Website
Our main website has recently expired.  More news later on this.

MySpace
We've kind of avoided getting a MySpace for a while, for various reasons. But now we have one, which just goes to show you really.

Injuries
Recent injuries to band members include Eleanor: fatigue, Julie: sunburn, Kath: eye operation and sore neck, Matt: dislocated shoulder, and Robert: sore back.
