http://blogs.tennessean.com/tunein/2009/12/04/12-stocking-worthy-releases-to-ring-in-the-season/Richie McDonald If Every Day Could Be Christmas mcdonald The former Lonestar frontman offers up a pristine-sounding holiday effort this Christmas that’s full of sentimental tunes and holiday classics, spiked with a few novelty numbers like “Why Santa’s Fat” and “Peterbilt Sleigh.” McDonald’s voice cuts bright and true on familiar melodies such as “O Holy Night” and “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year,” which slides along at a laid-back island pace, complete with bongos. Sometimes the arrangements can sound a little too perfect, especially when there’s a sustained synth background on songs like “Blessed Are the Hands That Give,” but the whole package makes for a neatly-wrapped gift to those who like their holiday music pure, crisp and just a little twangy. — WA

‘RACEDAY’ NAMED NASCAR’S SPEED (NETWORK) PRE-RACE SONG FOR 2009

Nashville, TN --- July 24, 2009 --- This Sunday, Richie McDonald’s “Raceday,” will make it’s debut on the SPEED network show Raceday Built By Home Depot.  The show covers NASCAR pre-race programming on SPEED, which leads directly into the All State 400 At The Brickyard telecast on ESPN.

The song was co-written by McDonald along with Aaron Barker and Leslie Satcher. "’Race Day’ is NASCAR, it is SPEED. It's a high-energy song that captures all the elements of this high-energy sport,” said McDonald.  “When you listen to it, you can hear the excitement from the fans, to the drivers, to the crew chiefs. I'm hoping that maybe some of the drivers will have it playing in their car on race day, because when you hear it, you can't help but drive fast!"

McDonald recorded the song with producer and friend James Stroud for his forthcoming solo debut on Stroudavarious Records, due in 2010.

“Raceday” will be used during pre-race programming on SPEED for 12 additional races throughout the 2009 NASCAR Season.

If you’ve ever watched a NASCAR race, you’ve probably heard Darrell Waltrip, former champion and current TV personality, yell his signature catch phrase “Boogity, Boogity, Boogity! Let’s go racin’ boys!” at the drop of the green flag. Richie McDonald did, and two years ago he and his co-writers came up with a song called “Race Day” that has a hook centered on Waltrip’s phrase. When it came time to record the song, McDonald thought, “Who better to be a part of this song than Mr. Boogity Man himself?” The unlikely collaborators talked with CMT.com at Loud Studios in Nashville this week.
Waltrip, a longtime country music fan, said he felt an immediate connection with the song. “It so addresses everything that we do on race day. You know, RVs, crew chiefs, get on your feet and pray - all those things are actually taking place, so I could see this song being a great fit to a pre-race show.” In fact, NASCAR has already licensed the song for use on the Speed Channel, and Waltrip says he plans to help pitch the project to his friends with the Fox network as well. “Race Day” will also appear on McDonald’s forthcoming album, expected to be released this summer.
“I’m really excited about just having a small little line in there,” Waltrip said. Then he reminded us that not too long ago he provided voice-overs for the animated film, Cars, and related that since his wife won’t let him drive anymore, making television and similar projects have become his passion. Ever the competitor, he was quick to add, “I can still kick those guys’ butt,” though, referring to NASCAR’s current crop of drivers. When asked if we should expect a video to go along with “Race Day,” McDonald seemed enthusiastic about the idea, but evidently there are no current plans for one. He added, “Maybe then we’ll let [Darrell] drive,” followed by a smirk from Waltrip that may have McDonald thinking twice about the idea. Check out the Speed Channel’s NASCAR pre-race coverage to hear Richie McDonald’s “Race Day.”
