Molteplici i viaggi intrapresi dalla Dorothy Circus Gallery nel suo primo anno di attività. Aprendo le sue porte al mondo del Pop Surrealismo ha illuminato gli oscuri lati delle favole per adulti, riportato a galla nuove mitologie, disfatto e rifatto il puzzle della rabbia, capovolto e risuscitato il subconscio nostalgico.E’ la volta dell’amore estremo: BORDER-LOVE. Questa la nuova sfida della D.C.G: raccontare attraverso le opere degli artisti LOSTFISH, BENJAMIN LACOMBE, KMYE CHAN, CONSUELO MURA gli amori di oggi: precari, incomprensibili, privati, spesso invisibili. Dorothy Circus Gallery is glad to present "Border Love", the first show ofthis new year. The title, from the words "Borderline" and "Love", wants to point outthe contents of modern love, that is incomprehension, eroticism, the gameand the madness and so on...This group show will host three French artists (Benjamin Lacombe, Kmye Chan,Lostfish) and one Italian (Consuelo Mura) who, through their artworks, aregoing to offer a fascinating and personal interpretation of the theme.

Tutti i vari vocabolari collegano o fanno derivare la parola 'fantasma' da 'fantasia', che definiscono (ivi): '1° capacità della mente di creare immagini o di attribuire alla realtà aspetti e significati soggettivi, diversi da quelli che le vengono solitamente e universalmente attribuiti (.); 2° concr.: l'immagine, la visione che la mente si crea; più come cosa immaginaria, priva di fondamento reale e, quindi, falsa'.

La mostra Inside Nostalghia si incarica di sfatare il concetto che la morte, l'oscurità, e le creature dell'ignoto siano frutto del demonio, che si manifestino per farci paura.
Inside è la ricerca nell'estrapolazione dell'anima viva o morta, dannata o beata che sia.
Nostalghia emblema della nuova visione della perdita, che ci induce ad un'analitica rielaborazione del lutto.
Nostalghia riflessione su un sistema di facili rotture di rapporti, comunque irripetibili, che ci porta inevitabilmente all'incessante e folle confronto con i nostri fantasmi interiori.
Il messaggio sublime che si materializza dinanzi a noi è dunque la consapevolezza che ciò che rimane veramente è la memoria degli altri, rendendoci tutti immortali, liberando noi dall'attaccamento alla vita terrena e coloro che ci hanno lasciato, dalla vita spirituale.
Il ricordo, anche sepolto o rimosso, delle persone che abbiamo amato e che non ci sono più, ci spinge a voler abbracciare ed accettare anche i nuovi incontri e il genere umano in tutti i suoi più semplici e unici dettagli, donandoci un'occasione per smettere di fuggire il dolore, per fermarci e guardarci dentro.
Nel momento del distacco, dell'assenza e della mancanza, le persone diventano più reali di quanto lo siano stati nel quotidiano e questa memoria fantastica si fa talmente forte da farle ritornare in vita, inducendo la nostra mente a credere che le abbiamo realmente dinanzi, tanto da poterle ritrarre e dipingere.
Attraverso la fantasia, il phantasma, prende corpo.
Questo eterno legame con i nostri cari spinge il subconscio a voler costantemente perseguire una ricerca, che ci pone inesorabilmente di fronte alla domanda: quanto sono invece gli "altri" a sceglierci consapevolmente come veicolo di trasmissione della loro presenza nella nostra dimensione?
Il forte desiderio di una risposta si avverte in questo particolare aspetto del Surrealismo che si tinge di Noir e, senza abbandonare il suo carattere Pop, dà vita a un oscuro e altrettanto ironico carosello di fantasmi carico di emozioni. Perfetta è la rappresentazione di questa immagine che ci regala Tara McPherson, con un ludico, fantasioso e variopinto spaccato della figura femminile fatta di cuori aperti, estratti dal corpo come tasselli di un puzzle. Il passato torna alla luce, come riemerso da un vecchio album fotografico, nei ritratti in bianco e nero, frutto dalla sconvolgente tecnica pittorica di Travis Louie, di animali antropomorfi in abiti d'epoca di chiara ispirazione vittoriana.
Essenziale la chiave di lettura, estremamente romantica, dell'inquieto e giovane Esao Andrews che, con i suoi volti senza volto e paradisi sommersi, apre metaforicamente l'immaginario cancello dell'inconnue, unendosi ai custodi del patrimonio Dark.
Le opere artistiche che ne conseguono ci inducono a voler vivere oggi, assaporando il gusto di ieri, ripristinando codici e temi che hanno contribuito a fare la storia.
I tre interpreti di questa pittura lirica saranno accompagnati da una "voce" di artisti che, come un coro all'unisono, renderanno personalmente omaggio a questo evento con un'opera che rappresenterà la loro interpretazione della Nostalgia.

Inside Nostalghia, the show, undertakes to disprove the conception that death, darkness and the creatures of the unknown are fruits of the Devil, wich reveal themselves just to scare us.

Inside as research of the soul, both living and dead, whether blessed or damned.
Nostalghia as emblem of a new vision of the loss, that brings us to an analytical revision of the mourning.
Nostalghia as reflection upon a system made of too easily broken relationships, unrepeatable though, that leads us inevitably to the unending and mad confrontation with our inner ghosts.

The sublime message that materializes in front of us is the consciousness that what really remains is the memory, that makes us immortals, releasing us from the attachment to our earthly life and those who have left us, from their spiritual life.
The memory, whether buried or repressed, of who we have loved and are no more, drives us to embrace and accept new encounters as well as mankind in all its simpliest and most unique details, giving us a chance to stop escaping the pain and to start looking inside ourselves.
During the separation and the absence, people become more real than they used to be and this fantastic memory is so strong that it brings them back to life, leading our mind to believe that they are actually in front of us and we are therefore still able to portrait and paint them.

This eternal connection with our beloved ones, pushes the subconscious to a never-ending research, that puts us inexorably in front of a question: what if it's the "others" to consciously choose us as vehicle of transmission of their presence in our dimension?
The strong need of an answer is noticeable in this particular aspect of a Surrealism stained with Noir and, without dropping its Pop features, starts an obscure but still ironic carousel of ghosts, filled with emotions.

Perfect is the description of this image given us by Tara McPherson with her playful, bizarre and multicoloured cross-section of the female figure, made of open hearts, extracted from their bodies like pieces of a puzzle.
The past returnes to light, as if it was emerging from an old photo album, in the black and white portraits of anthropomorphic animals dressed in period costumes, result of Travis Louie's impressive pictorial technique, of evident Victorian inspiration.
Essential is the symbolic, and extremely romantic, "key" that lays in the hands of the young and restless Esao Andrews who, with his faceless faces and submerged paradises, is metaphorically opening the imaginary gate of the inconnue, joining the guardians of a dark legacy.

The art works that follows inspire us to live today, tasting the flavour of yesterday, re-establishing codes and themes that have helped us to build our history.
The three interpreters of this lyrical painting will be accompanied by a "voice" of artists who, like a
song in unison, will personally give an homage to this event with a work that is going to represent their own interpretation of Nostalgia.

Martedì 22 gennaio 2008 dalle ore 19:00 verrà inaugurata la mostra "City Slang – The Street Comes to the Gallery", collettiva di Koralie, SupaKitch, TvBoy, Mr.Wany+Ale!, Sten, Lex, Lucamaleonte e Gar crew a cura di DCG e Micol di Veroli.

La mostra, come si evince dal titolo, prevederà interventi di street art che partiranno dal cuore della strada per poi entrare negli spazi della galleria. Il pubblico verrà quindi guidato in una sorta di percorso e imparerà a leggere ed a comprendere la street art nelle sue molteplici forme attraverso il suggestivo effetto eye-candy offerto da graffiti, poster art, stencil art e site-specific performances. Ma le sorprese non sono finite: nella project room si potrà ammirare una celebre affiche originale di Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec che rappresenta un vero e proprio esempio precursore della poster art, capace di unire passato e futuro in un singolo evento espositivo.

Lo slang come linguaggio diretto, tagliente e colorato che contraddistingue un gruppo di persone che ha le medesime caratteristiche e si esprime mediante un codice preciso, diviene un potente e caleidoscopico cocktail figurativo che unisce artisti nazionali ed internazionali in un unico argot libero da vincoli formali.

City Slang – The Street Comes to the Gallery è la miccia che innesca una carica artistica inesauribile che non si accontenta delle mura cittadine ma invade i sofisticati spazi del sistema dell'arte per liberare una violenta e dirompente esplosione di forme e colori.

Inoltre, domenica 17 febbraio alle ore 19:00 avrà luogo la presentazione del libro sulla mostra edito da Drago, per l'occasione gli artisti invitati eseguiranno una live performance sulle mura del Circolo Degli Artisti che ospiterà una serata in sintonia con l'evento.

The show "City Slang – the street comes to the gallery", a collective with Koralie, SupaKitch, TvBoy, Mr.Wany + Ale!, Sten, Lex, Lucamaleonte and Gar crew, by DCG and Micol di Veroli will open its doors on Thuesday 22nd of January, 2008 at 7 PM.

The show, as one can deduce from the title, is going to include street art interventions that will start from the heart of the street and enter finally the gallery's spaces. The audience will be guided through a sort of journey and will learn to read and understand street art in its various forms through a suggestive eye-candy effect offered by graffiti, poster art, stencil art and site-specific performances. But there's even more: in the project room one will be able to admire the original well-known affiche by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, that represents a perfect forerunner of poster art, able to join past and future in a single expositive event.

Slang as a direct, sharp and colourful language that marks a group of people with the same features and express itself through an exact code, becomes a powerful and kaleidoscopic figurative cocktail that connects national and international artists in one argot free from formal ties.

City Slang _ The Street come sto the gallery is the fuse that triggers an inexhaustible artistic charge that isn't pleased with the city walls but invades the sophisticated spaces of art system, in order to release a violent and explosive burst of shapes and colours.

Besides, on Sunday February 17, at 7 PM, the audience is also invitated to the presentation of the book about the show, published by Drago. For the occasion, some of the artists will perform live on the walls of the Circolo Degli Artisti, that is going to house an evening in keeping with the event.

Per concludere la programmazione della Dorothy Circus Gallery, iniziata con un viaggio nel paese delle meraviglie ("Stories From The Wonderland") si è deciso di intraprendere un percorso verso lidi astrali con l'intento di perdersi nei meandri del cosmo e scoprirne i misteri.
"What If You Get Lost In Space" vedrà come "ricercatori spaziali" due artisti già presenti nella mostra inaugurale, il giovane e promettente artista romano Jonathan Pannacciò e l'eclettico pittore di Seattle, Aaron Jasinski, i quali, con le loro creazioni in bilico tra il reale e il siderale, offriranno una visione personale della quotidianità circostante elevata a dimensioni geometriche e Pop Surrealiste.

To conclude the planning of Dorothy Circus Gallery, started with a journey
through wonderland ("Stories From The Wonderland"), we've decided to set out on a trip towards astral lands with the intention of getting lost in the mazes of the universe in order to discover its misteries.
"What If You Get Lost In Space" will see as "space researchers" two artists already present at the very first opening, the young and promising Roman artist Jonathan Pannacciò and the eclectic painter from Seattle, Aaron Jasinski, who are going to offer, through their creations hovering between the real and the sidereal, a personal vision of the surrounding everyday life, raised to geometrical and Pop Surrealist dimensions.

Dorothy Circus Gallery è lieta di presentarvi la nostra quinta mostra "The New Mythology", nata dalla collaborazione con Nathan Spoor di Los Angeles, California.
La preview privata su appuntamento si terrà presso la galleria il giorno 15 maggio dalle 16.30 fino alle 21.30.
Seguirà l'opening al pubblico il 16 maggio dalle ore 19.30.

Per "The New Mythology" è stato selezionato un gruppo dal crescente e suggestivo movimento artistico conosciuto come Lowbrow o Pop Surrealism e scelto un numero di artisti volti a raggiungere una sempre più forte caratterizzazione personale.
Ciascun artista ha scelto un proprio percorso verso la perfezione conseguendo un risultato figurativo estremamente forte e d'impatto. Grazie al loro peculiare talento hanno aperto chiavi di lettura verso dimensioni uniche e verso infinite possibilità. Ogni artista si è impegnato per crearsi una nicchia espressiva nella ricerca di una tipologia di narrazione visuale ancor più emozionante.

Dietro ogni straordinario e fertile terreno culturale si cela una significativa raccolta di racconti. All'interno di questi componimenti ogni parte narrativa è legata da fili tesi a sviluppare una tessitura che abbracci e coinvolga ogni singolo momento narrativo. Nell'accedere agli estremi del nostro presente e intraprendendo un cammino su sentieri emotivi, questi artisti hanno provocato un'evoluzione allegorica capace di far sorgere un nuovo mito.

Siamo dunque lieti di presentare a Roma, all'Italia e anche oltre, i nostri racconti dalle origini senza limiti, ognuno concentrato sulla propria originale attualità. Queste sono le canzoni cantate senza esitazione. Questi sono i semi della Nuova Mitologia.
E' con grande amore e umiltà che vi presentiamo i nostri pensieri e i nostri sogni. Ed è nostro desiderio ispirare ed incoraggiare tutti coloro che condividono questa meta consistente nel voler viaggiare su sentieri spirituali attraverso la natura stessa della creatività.

"The New Mythology"

Dorothy Circus Gallery is proud to present our fifth show called "The New Mythology", curated with Nathan Spoor, Los Angeles, California.
The private preview will take place at the gallery on the 15th of May, from 4.30 pm till 9.30 pm, the opening to the public on the 16th of May, from 7.30 pm.

The New Mythology is an exhibition of paintings representing a cross-section of a moving and powerful talent base of artists working individually toward a stronger sense of personal integrity in their works.
The artists involved in this exhibition have individually chosen a path toward excellence culminating in a moving and powerful figurative result. With their emotional and representative gifts for painting, they have created passports to dimensions of unparalleled and otherwise unrestricted possibility. Each distinctive artist in this exhibition has taken painstaking efforts to carve out a striking niche in their pursuit of a more vibrant visual sense of narrative.

Behind every great sophisticated cultural breeding ground there lies a collection of tales. Within this collective of civilizations' creative essays, each and every narrative is knit from the threads pulled from a time long before there were thoughts of ways for managing minutes instead of living within them. By accessing the furthest reaches of the present tense, as well as the most notable absent emotional causeways, these artists have begun to fabricate an allegorical evolution the likes of which give rise to a new mythos.

It is without further ado that we present to Rome, Italy and beyond our tales of beginnings without limitation, each centered in their own peculiar relevance. These are the songs sung without hesitance. These are the seeds of The New Mythology.

It is with great love and humility that we present to you our thoughts and dreams with such passion and certainty. And it is our hope to inspire as well as encourage all who share the goal of traveling the spiritual causeways through the core of creativity's nature…

FURORE: a thread, red as blood and thin as a scream, in this story told by Francesco LoCastro and Dorothy Circus Gallery, draws together the artistic expression of the greatest exponents of Pop Surrealism.

The picture of a young Andy Warhol by Ron English, who already at the end of the Nineties was amazing us with his pop pantheon composed by late vintage characters.
Women with eyes full of rage, tempting lips like candies and porcelain skin, as if they were vinyl dolls, hyper-realism masterpieces by Sas Christian and the incredible huge silicone sculptures by her husband Colin Christian, androids that hold in their pose and in their eyes the ancestral disturbing sensuality of female rage, explosive both in their forms and colours.


Kris Lewis' portraits, filled with the shady seduction of young girls showing the symbols of their modernity in an almost nineteenth-century mould.
Nine amazing geishas by the Italian artist Zoe Lacchei, who used to work as illustrator for Marilyn Manson, carried out with an unexceptionable traditional Japanese technique like those of the renowned artist Takato Yamamoto.
A telling through a sequence of faces, an irreverent procession of furious souls each one guided and protected by the spirit of different animals that symbolize and characterize them in a perfect expressive symbiosis.


Francesco Lo Castro, who brings us to the dreamlike and ghostly aspects, sometimes delirious, typical of Pop Surrealism, with his stormy "Girl And The Sea", wrapped in fire and hanging on furious seas and his constant research of an emblematic close-up on the social dynamics belonging to a fading American dream.
The show will also include the crackling geometries of Dalek who, through his gears, evokes space robots marching and beating an electronic time, Rocky Grimes' paintings that materialize the scream of the American underground and the ironic figures of Lebo, poetic interpreters of a new creative turmoils.

An unrepeatable slide that captures, hypnotizes and feeds on the same passion and the same fury that enliven the artists.
For the occasion, and inspired by FURORE, the Italian musician Giorgio Baldi has composed an exclusive soundtrack as a tribute to these Pop Surrealism masterpieces.
