THE SORE THUMBS - ..LISTEN UP!!.. CD THE SORE THUMBS are something special and I got that feeling the first time I heard them a few years back. Their sound is truly extraordinary and is sort of a mix of early and recent ONE MAN ARMY, THOSE UNKNOWN, SWINGIN.. UTTERS and REDUCERS SF with even a touch of CRIMPSHRINE or PINHEAD GUNPOWDER in there and they do so much with the vocal lines that keeps it all exciting and unpredictable. The progressions are interesting and coupled with the vocal lines it..s fucking explosive. Absolutely sick song-writing and sharp lyrics. THE SORE THUMBS do the same thing that the REDUCERS SF do so well and that..s being able to inject a huge dose of melody and catchiness into the music without losing any of the balls... because this sounds tough and that..s a really difficult thing to do to maintain that balance. The whole thing..s got that early TKO sound too and the production is spot-on. I just can..t find fault in this record because it..s fucking flawless. I loved their debut but this is on another level. I honestly can..t imagine any punk rocker who won..t fall head first for THE SORE THUMBS sound because it..s so appealing and alluring. It..s in its own category and in its own league. Listen up... indeed we will, this album should lunge this fantastic band to the fucking stars... it honestly is that great. Radio Records

AMP Magazine August 2006 Reviewed by Matt Windbreaker Cote The Sore Thumbs Listen Up!! CD I was really psyched to get this one. Ive heard a few songs here and there from THE SORE THUMBS before, so I knew what I was in for and man, did it not disappoint. Seriously good punk rock with no posing, no faking, no bullshit just punk rock! Think STIFF LITTLE FINGERS-style classic punk rock, with touches of Lets Go! era RANCID and Five Lessons Learned SWINGIN UTTERS. Fuckin brilliant! The East Bay has birthed some of the best punk rock bands in the history of the scene, and TST is not to be dismissed they deserve to be heard, they deserve to be known, and with listen Up!! they will be.

This three-piece band hailing from the east bay has been tearing up the Bay Area for years now. Having played every venue with every band, The Sore Thumbs are a well-oiled machine of pure punk pleasure. There music is reminiscent of Social Distortion with some Swinging Utters thrown in for good measure. All the songs on their new full length Listen Up are well put together and show a natural progression from prior releases.
Songs like Heartbreaks & Razor Blades, Like A Bullet and the title track Listen Up!!! get right to the point with no messing around this is punk rock at its finest. The stand out song Nowhere, Ca is catchy with great hooks and is always a crowd pleaser. If your not doing anything on August 9th go catch The Sore Thumbs with punk rock legends No Use For A Name at the Blank Club in downtown San Jose.

The Sore Thumbs Listen Up! CD (Radio Records)
(REVIEW BY LORD RUTLEDGE)
Old school Now Wave readers will love The Sore Thumbs. On its debut album, this Northern California trio brings back the great late-'90s Bay Area street punk sound typified by bands like the Swingin' Utters, One Man Army, and the Workin' Stiffs. Ah, the good old days! But The Sore Thumbs are not nostalgists, and they quickly prove how timeless and vital this kind of music still sounds when it's well-written and played with true conviction. Like all the bands mentioned above, these guys play old-fashioned blue collar punk rock. Nothing fancy, nothing innovative - just gritty, tough-as-nails punk with plenty of melody and lots of heart. They've delivered a terrific, rock-solid debut album chock full of rugged but catchy sing-along anthems. Miles Peck is punk's latest Johnny Bonnel/Mike Ness style singer, but he's no clone. He's got his own thing going on, and something tells me you're going to be hearing lots, lots more from him and his band-mates. In this age of pervasive emo music, we need bands like The Sore Thumbs to counter all the immense psychological damage that's being done to America's youth.
And that pretty much covers it - The Sore Thumbs are what they are, and they're damn good at it. Raise your beer in the air and enjoy. It's nice to know that this type of music is still being made - and being made so well!

The Sore Thumbs "Nowhere CA"/"Minds Eye" Pirates Press Records (2 song 7" split) www.thesorethumbs.com
Okay, this is my last Pirates Press review; I don't know how I missed this one (all that flipping must have confused my little blonde brain), but here it is…Listening to this record from California's The Sore Thumbs reminded me, in some strangely indefinable way, of a bucketful of nails. I don't really know what that means, especially since the cover art shows a screw (not a nail) puncturing a Frankenstein-type monster's thumb, but trust me when I tell you that it's a good thing. It's all urgent, scratchy guitars and a voice like gravel backed by an irresistible beat. And did I mention the especially kick-ass guitar solo in "Mind's Eye"? This is good stuff, friends. Good stuff, indeed.
