Amigas Latinas Members and Supporters,

It is hard to believe we are in the month of March already.  Soon Spring will be here and we can start planning some outdoor activities.  If you have any ideas of activities you would like to see Amigas Latinas plan for the membership, please feel free to let us know.  We are currently looking for a dedicated member to lead the Pride Parade float for the membership.

We hope everyone enjoyed Noche de Pasion in February.  The night was filled with chocolate fountains, erotic spoken word and love.  It looks like Amigas may be making this a new signature event.  Also in February author Achy Obejas graced us with her presence at a book club meeting and discussed her new book This is What Happened in our Other Life.  Amigas Latinas Co-chair also conducted an eduational presentation to the staff of Mujeres Latinas en Accion on Domestic Violence in same sex relationships. Madurando Elegantemente celebrated and had a very successful party.  Board Member Dina Ahsmann was a featured poet of La Dulce Palabra at a Chicago Foundation for Women fundraiser.

Over the next few months you will see La Dulce Palabra spoken word collective featured all over the city.  On April 3rd they will be presenting Siempre Viva! Resurrecting a Generation of Women Voices at DePaul University .  On April 11th they will be featured at the Race, Sex, Power: New Movements in Black & Latina/o Sexualities Conference.  There are also plans to be featured at Pow Wow, a long standing women of color queer spoken word collective on the south side.  Let us know if you are an artist interested in joining La Dulce Palabra.

Stay tuned for an exciting Short Films event on March 21st.  It is certain to be a great time.  As always we will continue our regular monthly programming with Amiguitas on March 14th, PFLAG en Espanol on March 16th and Madurando Elegantemente on March 30th.  Call us for location and time information.

Miembros de Amigas Latinas y aquellos que nos apoyan,

Es difícil de creer que ya estamos en el mes de marzo. Pronto llegara la primavera y podremos empezar a contemplar algunas actividades al aire libre. Si usted tiene ideas de actividades que le gustaría que Amigas Latinas planearan para sus miembros, por favor comuniquese con sosotros. Por el momento buscamos a un miembro dedicado para a dirigir el carro alegórico de la membresía durante el Desfile del Orgullo.

Esperamos que todas disfrutaron Noche de Pasión en febrero. La noche estuvo llena de fuentes de chocolate, palabras eróticas y amor.  Parece que Amigas estará haciendo este nuevo evento una tradición. También en febrero la escritora Achy Obejas nos agracio con su presencia en el club de lectores y discutió su nuevo libro This is What Happened in our Other Life. Las co-directoras de Amigas Latinas también presentaron un taller sobre violencia domestica en relaciones del mismo sexo para los trabajadores de Mujeres Latinas en Acción.  Madurando Elegantemente celebró y tuvo una fiesta muy exitosa.  Dina Ahsmann, miembro de la mesa directiva, y una poetisa de La Dulce Palabra, recaudó de fondos para Chicago Foundation for Women.

Durante los próximos meses verá el colectivo La Dulce Palabra haciendo presentaciones por todas la ciudad. ¡El 3 de abril ellas estarán presentando Siempre Viva! Resurrecting a Generation of Women Voices (Resucitando una generación de voces de mujeres) en la universidad DePaul. El 11 de abril tambien estaran presentandose en la conferencia Race, Sex, Power: New Movements in Black & Latina/o Sexualities.  También hay planes de hacer presentaciones en Pow Wow, un colectivo de poetas que son mujeres que se identifican como queer y de color en el sur de la ciudad.  Déjanos saber si eres artista y estas interesada en ingresar al colectivo La Dulce Palabra.

Mantengase al tanto tambien de un emocionante acontecimiento de peliculas cortas el 21 de marzo. Prometemos que será un gran evento. Como siempre, continuaremos nuestra programación mensual con Amiguitas el 14 de marzo, PFLAG en Español el 16 de marzo y Madurando Elegantemente el 30 de marzo. Let's talk about SEX hermana... y mucho mas!

Amigas Latinas and Lesbian Community Cancer Project are holding focus groups to hear from our lesbian, bisexual, and queer hermanas about safer sex, sexually transmitted diseases, and breast and cervical cancer. LCCP will use the information gathered to produce a FIERCE media campaign and education program for lesbian, bisexual, and queer women.

All focus group participants will receive $50 for their involvement. Refreshments provided.

Hablemos de SEXO hermana ... Y mucho mas!

Las Amigas Latinas y el Proyecto de la Comunidad Lesbianas sobre el Cáncer (LCCP) están organizando grupos de enfoque para aprender mas sobre nuestras hermanas lesbianas, bisexuales, y queer acerca de cómo hacer el sexo más seguro, enfermedades de transmisión sexual, y el cáncer cervical y del seno. LCCP usará la información obtenida para producir una campaña importante de los medios de comunicación y programas de educación para lesbianas, bisexuales, y mujeres queer.

Todas las participantes de los grupos recibirán $50 por su participación. Habrá snacks.
