The following review of our Driller Killer EP can be found on the Dead Earnest site.

Now you'd think, with an album so recently released, that Edinburgh's finest original all-male metal band, wouldn't have needed to put out a CD-EP, especially one that features two tracks from the album, re-recorded. But it's when you start to listen to it, that you see why they're doing this – for, it cooks, drives, rocks and rolls in a way that the album never did – and the album was hot!! If I had to guess, I'd say that the album was the band getting a long-awaited catalogue of songs out of their systems, one that showcased the compositional and performance breadth of this “Classic Rock” band. But, right from the thunderous sound of classic rock and metal that is “Stunned”, you quite simply know that this band is here to rock – and they tear the road up before you as this mighty sound of riffing, searing guitars, immense sounding bass, rock solid drums and high-flying Judas Priest-esque vocals, all combine to create a truly stunning opening number. But there's an urgency to the song fuelled by an obvious sense of enjoyment as though the band, having got the album out of their systems, can now relax and launch themselves into songs that truly erupt into life with all the energy and adrenaline, passion and power, that you'd expect from such a quality metal band as this. Quite simply, they're having the time of their lives playing it all, which quite naturally leads to the listener having the same feeling listening to it. “Stressed Out” explodes into life with its rampaging rhythms, red hot lead guitar work, thunderous bass, sky-high vocals, addictive chorus and massively deep molten metal density, all sounding fresh and vital, produced to perfection, as indeed, is the whole EP. “Shetlamb, Driller Killer” hammers out in a blaze of riffing guitars, crunching drums, more titanic bass and high-flying vocals to provide yet another absolute gem of full-force, driving Classic Rock as this belter of a song erupts from the speakers to perfection. The redone “24 Hour Breakdown” and “Motor Man” sound on fire and every bit the massive metal monsters of songs that they always should have been, the sound of a rock band taking you firmly by the throat and refusing to let go. This is an EP of 5 absolutely top notch rock and metal songs, played sung and produced to stand head and shoulders alongside the cream of the more well known Classic Rock bands, a feat that it achieves with seemingly effortless ease.

We were back in the studio on Sunday the 10th of May where we recorded the track, The List. From which here is a nice video of Liam putting down his guitar solo.

Saturday, May 09, 2009

First up thanks to Vinnie of the Engines of Vengeance who covered for Dave at our last gig at Studio 24. He did a fantastic job on the drums, thus the other three of us were able to run around the stage without worry of the songs breaking down at any point.

You can see some photo's of this performance here

The next bit of band activity after this was mixing of the new EP, which took place on Saturday and Sunday the 25th & 26th of April. We are pleased to report that the mix is complete and the songs are sounding fantastic. The release of the Driller Killer EP is on the 26th of June with a gig at the Ark, Waterloo Place, Edinburgh, we will then be playing in Glasgow on the 28th at Pivo Pivo. So if you can make it along to one of those gigs you will be among the first to be able to get copies of the CD.

The full tracklisting is as follows, Stunned, Stressed Out, Shetlamb, Driller Killer, 24 Hour Breakdown & Motor Man. We will put up a couple of the new tunes on our myspace player at the end of May, start of June, so keep a look out for that.
