I wanted to take a moment to promote the Comic Creator’s Alliance, a donations drive I’m spearheading with the help of my fellow comic creators. The cause is National Human Trafficking Awareness Day on January 11th, and so far over 40 creators have signed on!

Here's the link to the site:
http://comicalliance.weebly.com

“Human Trafficking” is the modern term for slavery, and there are currently 27 million enslaved people worldwide- more than double the number of enslaved Africans during the trans-Atlantic slave trade. UNICEF estimates that 1.2 million children every year are sold into slavery, most of it sexual. The US Department of Justice estimates 16,000 victims of human trafficking are brought into the United States every year. The more you read about it, the more horrifying it becomes.

Are you a comic creator? Want to participate? Web Comic Creators from all over the world are working together on a single drawing which will be available as a downloadable wallpaper for readers who donate to our fund raising drive! If you want to participate, send me an email with your name, webcomic name and URL. Not a creator but still want to get involved? Spread the word! Link to the website from your blogs and twitter accounts, pass the information on to your favorite creators–right now we just need to get the word out! My goal is to enlist the help of 50 other creators–we’re currently at 48!

All the details are on the website, as well as a blog you can subscribe to. I’ll be posting the drawings there as they come in! I got two already, so look for that later this week! If you want to hear me talk more about this, TGT Webcomics was kind enough to give me a few minutes on their show and talk about why this issue became personal to me-Listen here, I’m at 1:55:40 on Episode 73. Comic Geek Speak also had me on! Listen here, episode 731, at 49 minutes. Thanks to both shows for the features!

Thanks everyone!

Mike finally finished the brand new Dreamer Site!

This new website has much faster load times, brand new content, and a wicked cool new page viewer.  All the issues are now linked together for continuous reading!  You can also check out the latest pages from a click on the front page.

**(If you were subscribing to my blog for updates via the RSS feed on the site, please visit the new site and re-subscribe to the new blog.  The Feed changed because the blog now has it's own page on the site rather being the entire front page.  So the old feed no longer works!)**

So hop on over to The Dreamer Comic.com!

So... they may've spelled my name wrong, but the thought is there:  I'm up for TWO Harvey Awards.  Best New Series and Best New Talent.

harvey_nominee_logo

I'm still pretty shell shocked.  Many thanks to whoever nominated me!  It was a huge surprise.  I didn't even think we stood a chance, so I hadn't asked anyone to nominate me or anything like that.  Total shocker. Mike and I went to Cheesecake Factory to celebrate.  I told him I was ordering two of everything--one for each nomination.  Who knows when anything like this might happen again, I said!  But after just one meal, one latte, and one cheesecake I was stuffed...  (and brought half of it home.)  So maybe we'll have to go celebrate the other nomination later.  ;)

Hey, Everyone! Issue #6 came out in Comic Book Stores today! They look beautiful! I think when it comes to art, it's the prettiest one yet, with all the fog and early morning effects. The colors look great.

It's not a surprise anymore that Jenny Frison did another beautiful variant cover, but I'll give her a shout out none the less! When I read through this issue (at every red light on my drive home) I noticed something funny: You can actually read the small text on Page 7, where Knowlton is giving Frederick instructions. I'm glad that I had actually written something legitimate in there! What he says makes me laugh! Enjoy your copies, and buy an extra set for your friends! :)

It's that wonderful time of month... when The Dreamer comic book hits the stands! Issue #5 came out today in comic shops everywhere, so don't forget to pick up your copy!!

Issue #5 Covers

I was relieved: no giant advertisements with Eliza Dushku's face on them, right in the middle of the story this time. The double page splash looks great in print! So does Nathan's face meeting Alan's fist.

Also, don't forget to pre-order Issue #6, either online or at your local comic book shop! Make sure you get your copy! The order code is: MAR094338, the publisher is IDW. It comes out in May, not next month in April since, well, the last six pages don't exist yet. Issue #6 is the last comic that will be in print for awhile, since it's the last issue of the first graphic novel.

I apologize that I've been negligent with MySpace. I get a lot more traffic on other sites, and have sort of neglected updating this one. Which I realized with humiliation when I saw that my last status update had said, "Lora just bought her copy of The Dreamer #2!" aaaaand, well, the Dreamer # 4 came out several weeks ago.

If you don't have a local comic book shop, you can order The Dreamer online, and please do so! Issues 1-4 are out in print, #5 should be out in a few weeks, and well, Issue #6 & I are currently running a sprint to the finishline over at my drawing desk.

Several places to shop online:

IDW Store: You can order it straight from the publisher, via the IDW Publishing website.

Heavy Ink: Heavy Ink. You can preorder all six issues on there. These guys have been so great to me.

TFAW: TFAW.com. I think that you can order internationally through these guys.

Thanks everyone. Catch up with you soon....!

Yup that's right! I just got back from my local comic book shop, and guess what they had waiting for me? These pretty babies, from IDW Publishing:

Love love love that pink logo by Jenny Frison!

Official Press Release here as well as a ton of other places I've seen it floating across the webniverse. If you pre-ordered your copies, be sure to pick them up! I promise you, it's so much more beautiful in print!! I've done my art since issue 1 with the intent of getting it published, and it really is a sad moment each Friday when I upload my pages all small and saved in web colors, and half the detail disappears.

Happy reading! Spread the word! Buy copies for your friends! Huzzah!!

The second issue of The Dreamer is now available for pre-order! If you ordered Issue 1, be sure to order 2! The Diamond order code is: OCT08 4246

All you need to do is go to a place where they sell comic books, and ask them to order you in a copy of The Dreamer 2, by IDW Publishing. You can give them the order code above. The book will be out in December, but you have to order it now!

Why is this important? First, because you all want your print copies of The Dreamer, right? You've been asking me about it forever. :) It's also important because the pre-sells are what my publisher will look at when they decide whether or not they would like to keep offering The Dreamer to you in print. Right now, pre-ordering my comic is the most important thing you can do to support me and The Dreamer. Issue 2 sells are traditionally much lower than 1 sells, so I really need you all to go out there and order a copy for your self, your friends, and tell your comic shop to carry it too! The book will only cost you $3.99!

Issue 2 will have two covers to pick from, just like the first issue did. If you're a collector, you might want to order two copies. The variant cover by Jenny Frison is beautiful.

Thanks everyone!!

I just found out that The Dreamer won at least two of the categories we were nominated in at the Drunk Duck Awards!! We won both Best Romantic Comic and Best Digital Art!! Huzzah!

They are releasing the rest of the winners daily until the Friday, so if we win any of the other three categories we are nominated in, I'll let you know!

One of my friends just sent me an email that contained this picture and little more:

I guess the latest issue of Previews is out. :)

If you're not a comic book person, Previews is the catalogue that lists all the comics for sell that month. It appears that the time to order your printed copy of The Dreamer from IDW Publishing is now! If you're not a comic shop regular, here's what you do: find a comic shop in your yellow pages, bring a friend wearing a Spiderman or Dark Knight tee shirt so you don't have to go alone, and ask the guy who runs the store if they'll order you a copy of the book. It's that easy.

The comic is listed under IDW Publishing, on page 291 of the Previews Catalogue. And the order code that they use is: SEPT084131E

It's only $3.99 and there's no annoying shipping fees like if you buy stuff off the net. It really is only four dollars. And you can choose from the sweet cover that Barb Jacobs and myself did (featured above) or you can pick the beautiful painted variant cover by Jenny Frison, or... feel free to buy both. :)
