Current mood:  melancholy
The myspace music player, in its current state, refuses to recognize that I gave it lyrics for the three new songs.  So, instead, I'll post them here!  Enjoy!

Thanks for Nothing, 1812

in the early morning glow
I'm watching the smoke from chimneys slowly rise
in the valley down below
along the tracks the trains begin to glide
and the lights along the line
peek out through the trees like prowlers as we pass
when the motor starts to whine,
oh, we know that we've crossed the county line at last

(chorus)
when you hear the whistles blow
they echo out
and slowly fade
when you say it sounds like whales
all trapped in the river
I start to shake

when we pull up to the house
I kill the lights and through the window I
can see her sleeping on the couch
so quietly I sneak inside
in the dark I hear a tune
a melody I can't quite place
like the smell of old perfume
it floats on aimless air and dissipates

(chorus)

----------------

almost got it

early in the morning
stumbling on
couldn't make it to the motel lobby so,
you pass out on the lawn

another wasted shore leave
spent lying in the sun
watching the local girls get good and drunk

later in the evening
lost in a haze
looking for a place to spend the night
and counting all the ways
you changed into something
so strange and obscene
asking the girls,
"Hey, are you eighteen?"
and meaning it!

(chorus)
surprise, surprise, when the sun breaches the blinds, you'll find that you don't recognize
the place you woke up in
sail on, sail on, til the memory is gone and all those tiny seaside bars finally feel like home!

times almost up now
your ships sailing away
off to a town with a different name
but that's all that'll change
take a drink for the good times
that fell apart in your hands
and beg all the local girls for one last dance

(chorus)

--------------

no no, go back

I called you on the 17th and I
left my voice on your machine
I asked you to call me back, but you never did

I understand you have your plans
you rarely set your feet on land
the seagoing life has dragged you off the grid

we kept your room just how you left it and the way the lights deflected through the trees means winters finally rolling in

the xrays came and the spot was bright, shaped roughly like a christmas light, and a little to the right of where you've been

you walk in frail, thin as a post,
the smell of salt all in your clothes,
surprised, I ask "What have you been up to?"

"I've been picking fights and trading scars, and getting drunk in seaport bars, where the girls swirl 'round in dresses all green and blue."

"Have you come to watch me pass along, or feel the grass between your toes, well you should be going either way"

"'cause, life is short and bitter still and you've years to go 'fore you've had your fill, so turn your back to port and sail away!"

To say that I've been quiet for some time is a bit of an understatement.  A strong mix of school, research and a bewildering and sometimes stunning lack of inspiration has kept me out of the loop for longer than I care to admit.  So, here is some news.

I will have another EP out shortly, within the week or so if all goes well.  The songs are finished, being retooled a little bit.  I'm also putting together the layout, which I'm pretty happy about - it's not complicated, or extremely different from anything else I've done, but it makes me happy to see things come together.   Suppose I'll hit you with a tracklist and a shot of the cover.

Those are stuffed deer.  They've been dead a long time.  Thought you should know.

Tracklist:

1) a little to the left
2) give us a name, Ray
3) thanks for nothing, 1812
4) almost got it
5) visitation rights
6) all lights calmly kneeling
7) no no, go back

The EP is called "Days Between Stations" and it's got songs about sailing, whales, traveling, drunken locals, wayward children, ex-criminals in witness protection, ghosts, cancer, and a man in a love with a tree.  There are seven songs in total, and they all play with the idea of home and what it means to different people.  As such, its a bit more personal to me than the stuff I've done before, which mostly built around feeling less than experience.  I guess thats why I'm talking about it so much, because the concepts mean so much to me.  Especially the thing about ghosts?

Anyway, I'll be putting up some songs from it within a few days, once I make sure they don't sound too terrible.

I'm also working with another musician I know, Cincinnati Elite, on a split EP where he'll write a few, I'll write a few, and we'll collaborate on a few.  His stuff is fantastic, by the way, and it comes highly recommended by me.

Anyway, once the songs are up, I hope you'll listen to them, tell your friends to listen to them, and enjoy them.  And I hope they make you think about home.

I got back about a week ago from a trip/tour with the Bell County Silence and Aficionado. I've known a bunch of the dudes from both bands for a long time, and it was great to spend time trapped in a really awful smelling van with them. They're all truly awesome folks and both bands are terrific. I didn't get to see Aficionado as much as I'd have liked to, since they had a problem with their bus early on in the tour.

Anyway, some thank you's definitely need to be extended:
-Mr. Z's sandwiches.
-Rhode Island for staying sunny.
-Frank and Grace, for driving several hours to save us via an obscure Connecticut law.
-Mike from Pictures in Braille, for letting us sleep in his lawn.
-Justin from The Mother/Daughter Team for both giving us a place to sleep, and working so very very hard to make sure the show happened (against all odds.) Also, your band is awesome as hell.
-The dudes from Tiger's Jaw, also awesome.
-Rachelle, in Pittsburgh, for letting us use your shower and sleep in your mansion, and for coming out with us.
-Thanks to the guy in Trenton who duffed somebody real hard and peaced out. It was hilarious.

And the biggest thanks, of course, goes to Bell County Silence and Aficionado. Everybody should check them out, right away!

Anyway, I got to play a couple of times during the trip (but mostly it was just travelling with some good friends) which was great - I'm looking forward to trying to play out a bit more.

I've still got a bunch of CDs.

I'm working on some new stuff, probably aiming for a 4-5 song ep kind of thing in the next few months. Hopefully the production values will rise a bit, thanks to a bit of experience and some new equipment. Anyway, keep your eyes peeled.

I've also put a new song up, which ison the "speak up!" album that, I'll remind you again, I still have a bunch of copies of.

Take Care!

Some news from the wc minor camp!

First, I have finished recording/putting together an album.  It runs about 38 minutes long and has 8 songs, four of which you should recognize from this very myspace page, and four of which should be brand new to most of you!  I'm pretty happy with it, although my inexperience in recording shows in the low volume of the whole thing.  Just remember to check that volume knob between CDs, is all.

I'll probably end up putting most of the songs on the internet at some point, but for now, those of you interested in the whole CD experience (i.e., cases, notes, lyrics, that sort of thing), could probably contact me and find a way to get a copy.  However, this first pressing (if "pressing" means I made copies at Staples and spent a few hours gluing things together and burning CDs) is extremely limited, and at most I'll probably make 100 layouts over the next few weeks/months.  However, anyone who just wants a CDR with no frills, I'm cool with that too.

Curious what it looks like?  This is the front cover.

Tracklist!
1) curtains
2) let's be civil about this, okay?
3) nice weather we're having
4) things will turn around, GA
5) white is the ground
6) 1748
7) theodore
8) is it winter already?

How can you get one of these you ask?  Well, for my friends in the Northeast, I'll be doing a little traveling in August!  I'm not going on tour, really, I'm tagging along with some good friends of mine in Bell County Silence and Aficionado, both of whom can be found on my main profile page.  Long story short, they asked if I would want to play a couple of songs while they set up at some of their tour dates, and I said "maybe!"  I'm leaning more towards yes now.  Either way I'll be there with CDs.

Anyway, dates are as follows!

8/16/07 - The Hilton Center - Albany NY
8/17/07 - Andrew Hall Venue - Lunenburg, MA
8/18/07 - Venue TBA - Rhode Island
8/19/07 - Venue TBA - NYC
8/20/07 - The Mohn Building - Tamaqua, PA
8/21/07 - The Smiling Moose - Pittsburgh, PA
8/22/07 - Brenda and Jerry's - Bath, PA
8/23/07 - The Fuel Collection - Philadelphia, PA
8/24/07 - Championships Bar and Grill - Trenton, NJ
8/25/07 - East Fishkill Rec - Hopewell Junction, NY (afternoon show)

Remember, all dates are with Bell County Silence and Aficionado, two awesome bands whose myspace pages are easy to find and contain more information about these dates, if you're interested.

Those of you not in the northeast still interested in getting CDs, drop me a line and we'll work something out.
