Spring has returned and so have I. From my first Craigslist ad in Austin music, published today: Pro sax player of 20 years experience and relocated to Texas is determined and ready to finally come off long sabbatical. Available for *original* projects only: local stage, recording and possible touring (with strong act). I prefer rock, jazz, fusion, funk, latin or any cool mixture of the same, but I will consider all serious projects of just about any musical style.
I’m open to coming out and listening/jamming locally, with a wide variety of players. I enjoy doing it. Age is not an issue and I actually would prefer those with the fire and the desire to make great music and succeed, so I’m open to brand new projects.
Strong soloist with plenty of section experience and recognizable tone.
Alto sax only at current time, but will be rebuilding my arsenal as things get rolling. Strong background vocals. Dabbling with some new midi gear (WX5).
I have some "rust" to brush off, but once "oiled", look out...
Looking forward to hearing from Austin musicians and beyond.

What’s in this article is hardly news to me -- the researchers could have saved a lot of time just by interviewing me -- but I figured it might be interesting for the uniniated to read. The title of the article leaves me a bit perplexed though. http://www.livescience.com/strangenews/080207-saxophone-notes.html "John Coltrane and other famed jazz saxophonists hit piercing high notes that amateurs can’t by expertly changing the shape of their vocal tracts, research now reveals."

Well, I see that I can now easily update the number of Top Friends, so I did. I've been a bit neglectful of MySpace the past couple of months, but I promise to give some sincere attention to the pages in my list soon. I know there's a lot of great music there that deserves more time.
Peace,
John

I will be attending South by Southwest in Austin, Texas from March 10-19.
In fact, you can probably count on me attending every year from this point on unless wild horses drag me away...

Zippo Hot Tour has a great website up where you can get the lowdown on a TON of great unsigned bands.
You can help the best of them get on the Tour with your vote!
Be sure to VOTE daily (once every 24 hours, per city). Since voting ends on July 15th (EXTENDED), they will post the semi-finalists around July 18th.
Of course, I'm a bit partial to the bands from Austin, TX - but there are many great acts on the list and you get to hear plenty of tracks online to help you decide.
Have fun and vote today!

I'm in the market for a new tenor sax...my last one was stolen back in 2000.
If you have a high quality Mark VI or know someone looking to get rid of one at a not-too-insane price, drop me a note.
I'm also considering other horns to add to my arsenal once I get settled in Austin. If you're a dealer or offer endorsements, again, drop me a line.
Peace,
-J-
