I have decided to start a blog about right and left hand position for fingerstyle guitar players. Is there a right and wrong way to play guitar? I believe there is. I know of more than one instance where players are now having difficulty playing because of poor position habits. One individual in particular cannot play at all because of developing carpal tunnel. Let me start by giving an example of correct right hand position. Raise your right hand as if to ask a question. Now take that hand and place it on your stomach just below your chest. Notice the position of your hand. That is the way it should lay across your guitar strings. Very little or no bend in your wrist. Now raise your left hand. Now drop it and turn it over palm up as if someone is handing you something. Notice that there is very little or know bend in your wrist. You should approach the fingerboard with little or know bend in your wrist. You will notice that you can play most chords without altering this hand position. That's it for today. If this blog is an annoyance tell me to mind my own business. I am just attempting to avoid possible problems for you later. Good luck!

We've been meeting nearly every Monday now for about 2 or 3 months at The Whistlestop in Safety Harbor.  It's been pretty amazing seeing how quickly everyone's improving every single week.

I think most of us agree that Hambone seems to be "in the zone" every time his brings his Martin.  I've always thought that Martins were at least a little over-rated, but this is one of the best sounding plugged-in Martins that I ever heard.  He refinished it himself, too...

Last week we had a special treat when Richard Gilewitz made an appearance and gave us a nice 30 minute performance for free.  The Breedlove he was playing was his own signature model, of which there are only 11 on the planet.   He sent me home practicing...

We wish Richard Taylor a successful surgery and a speedy recovery.  We'll miss hearing his refined classical picking for a while.  Best wishes Richard!
