Found out PBS radio picked us up, and we've had airplay in Australia! not to mention Belgium, Israel, Great Britain...and Saskatchewan!   We also ventured out beyond our usual haunts in St. Catharines and Toronto and had a great time in South River and Oakville and sure hope to continue that adventuresome trend in '09. We want to thank you all - old friends and new- for all your support, encouragement, and enthusiasm - we surely do appreciate it!

In Canada, around Toronto, the earth must be very fertile. Many artists start out from there to spread their musical wings - just like Jennifer Hale (Jeff for short) and Neva Tesolin, who worked on this album together. They both sing with complimentary voices, exchanging songs and adding their own particular 'key' to them. Possibly the best Canadian instrumentalists from the area accompany them on their debut album, produced by award winner Paul Mills.

These ladies have been in the music business since childhood. Jeff Hale, guitarist and lead singer, and Neva Tesolin pianist/accordionist, both write their own songs. Jeff with elegant dance tunes, Cajun, 'old time' or folksy pub songs with sources of inspiration of daily life or connected with family ties. Neva searches more in the Celt evocations - from pictorial landscapes, Kerry, Wales, to the myths of the seasons, the 'moon mysteries', or harvest impressions. 'The Fisher and Me', 'The Daughters' and the instrumental 'Llanwrtyd Wells and Ponies' are all hers and betray a rootsy Celtic background. Her classic training as a pianist since age seven lingers between sparkling and sublime. Jeff Hale plays her Martin guitar like it was her first toy. She has the ideal voice to very powerfully frame her own 'Turning 40' and their joint 'Dirty Work' For a fairy tale like quality, Neva's daughter Jessie came all the way from Halifax to accompany on her cello, highlighting the feminine nuances. While listening to these ladies, one wonders if the ancestral Celtic blood still flows. Playfulness, irony, melancholy, poetry - all fight for primacy. The musicians follow the mood of the ladies perfectly. Bass player Bob Hewus and Curly Boy Stubbs on mandolin and banjo are a great addition and Curly Boy's percussion on the instrumental 'Llanwrtyd Wells' makes this piece one of my favourites, along with the mythical 'The Daughters' which, with the piano, cello, and violin arrangements, has a liturgical feeling.

If this is not clear enough - this Toronto album smells of the sea, where songs dance together like waves on the Irish coast, all individual but pushed together by the same power with the sound of the tides...

WHAT A HOOT!
In Canada, in the buurt of Toronto, the ground is apparently fertile. Many artists leave of from that to be musical break out wings. This way also with Jennifer Hale, briefly Jeff called, and Neva Tesolin, which both cooperated after separate musical omzwervingen, around this album. Both ladies sing with complementary votes, which vary the songs and give an own tone nature. Canadian instrumentalists, supposedly the bests from the region of Saint, accompany Catharines to Toronto them at their debut album, geproducet by Paul Mills, which can Award write winner on its palm ares. Not that the ladies were already not long from senile leg with music. Jeff their own fresh songs Hale, gitarist and leadzangeres, and Neva Tesolin, pianist/accordion, write himself. Jeff throw themselves kindest already singing separately in elegant danstunes, cajun, ..old time' or folky pubsongs with inspiration source from daily living or followed on to family links. Neva Tasolin zoekt it more in Celtic evocations, of picturale landscapes, Kerry, Wales, to the myths of the seasons, the maanmysterie or harvest impressions. ..The Fisher and Me', ..The Daughters' and the instrumental ..Llanwrtyd Wells and Ponies' are all of its hand and treasons rootsy Celtic lichtinval. Its piano pianospel, traditional training as from its seventh year, verwijlt in the fencer area between sparkling and sublime. Jeff Hale, which play already on school in a band drunk, on its Martin jet ear as if this hair first toy was. Moreover she has to the ideal voice both its own laconic ..Turning 40 and their common frame ..Dirty Work' strongly. And generally also loving at the more romantic songs. For the feeërieke test Neva even ended up for the, Jessie, just as Halifax concerning to examine the delicate female nuances with violoncello accompaniment. If you listen to the ladies, wonder yourself you inevitably if distant ancestral Celtic blood is still for sparkling. Playfulness, irony, melancholia, poetry, fight all for primacy. The bandsmen anticipate perfectly on the mind polls of the ladies. Except contrabassist bobsleigh Hewus are notable Stubbs also Curly Boy, as he gives with mandoline or banjo present. And its percussion on the instrumental ..Llanwrtyd Wells' turns this number into of my favorites, beside the mythical ..The Daughters', that with piano, violoncello and the violin arrangements hurry themselves liturgical strike as. It had be not yet clear. This Toronto-album refresh as a sea where the songs concerning each other tumbles as the golves on the Irish coasts, none the same but all propelled by the same strength, these of the sound in ebb and rising tide. Stewed Roots CD Review [- Hide]
ROOTStime
