I guess this is full circle 2... It was not without some trepidation that I went to the Honda Center to see Tina Turner this week. Trepidation, you say? to see the incredible Tina? I love Tina Turner--it's just that I have so many incredible memories of seeing the Ike & Tina Turner review back in the day--&, well, I didn't want those memories tarnished. I probably saw them 25 times when they used to play at a place called the Cinnamon Cinder. They would do 3 shows in one night in different parts of LA (Long Beach, Hollywood & North Hollywood). They'd pack everybody up & had a little trailer in back to haul the gear. Every single show was a nothing held back, gritty, glitzy, soulfully raw tour de force performance. I remember one night Tina tore her dress & sexily slithered off stage--her back to the audience & returned a few seconds later hardly missing a note or a gyration. Anyway, I should have known that ms Tina would not disappoint. If anything, her voice may have been even stronger & the show was awesome. No half-stepping, half hearted notes or abbreviated show here. She's still doing several shows across town, but now they're big arenas a day apart. I don't know anyone who's earned it more.

Current mood:  amused

OK, I thought it was time for me to finally create a blog. It always seems like a kind of "Hey look at me" sort of thing, but I guess it’s like the Christmas letter that people sometimes grumble about getting & then read it anyway to find out what’s going on. So I shall humbly forge on in hopes that it may be of at least passing interest.

I wear a lot of musical hats (singer, guitarist, songwriter, custom & improv songwriter, Positive Music artist, etc.) but I’m donning my songwriter cap this time. Today seemed kind of full circle for me in the music biz. The very first recording I had of any consequence was when Bobby Womack (along w/ the Pointer sisters) recorded a song we co-wrote called Daylight. It was released in 1976 & became a top 5 R&B hit & was subsequently recorded by many others. It was the first of many for Bobby & myself & the bond continues today.

So lo & behold, all these years later, Kelly Rowland of Destiny’s Child. the biggest selling female group of all time, has just released her new single "Daylight" (yes, that "Daylight") featuring Travis McCoy of Gym Class Heroes And for good measure she’s also releasing a remix EP containing 5 different remixes of "Daylight". Who knew?!

So I guess if you just keep putting them out there, they eventually come back & smile at you occasionally. Remind me to tell you sometime about how the same sort of thing happened w/ Snoop & 50 cent. My best 2U, Harold
