http://cableandtweed.blogspot.com/ wrote a really nice review of our new record check it out below . Also some guy on a radio station blog had this to say. Album Artist: Pistolero
Album: Warface
CD
Rock/Pop - Acoustic Rock
Cheshire Cat Sez: With a name like Pistolero, a record called Warface,
and an album photo showing four ruffians in a convertible, well....I
hardly expected such a mellow, agreeable acoustic rock album. There are
some electric guitar tracks (9 among others) but not the norm.
Pistolero - Warface [ buy] The latest release from Atlanta band Pistolero, Warface,
is more ambitious and accomplished than their previous output, visiting
several genres and styles over the course of its 13 tracks. Although
the band's earlier EPs were nothing to sneeze at, the full-length
format gives them room to move. Along the way they meander between
garage rock, country, and Modern Lovers-style punk, and are largely
successful along the way. Pistolero also use the longer format to
feature quite a bit of interesting instrumentation -- "Sniviling Little
Git" features not only the aforemention Modern Lovers flair, but also
strings that give it an atmospheric quality it might have lacked
without them. The country-tinged "Spreadsheets" and "King of Atlanta"
feature harmonica and banjo, respectively. My favorite tracks on
the album are probably those in which Pistolero invoke their British
Invasion influences -- "Yellow House" and "Postcard from the
Apocalypse" remind me of mod acts from years ago, and "Sunburn" is
decidedly psychedelic. The band also does straightforward rock the
right way; I can imagine much dancing and throwing of beer during the
raging "Picture Perfect." I don't love every track on Warface, but it's a quality record from a local act that deserves far more attention.

Getting used to Decapitation got another glowing review in this months issue of Southeasteren Performer. The entiriety of the text is listed below.
Although cloaked in a traditional CD case, Pistolero's Getting Used to Decapitation EP is laid out like an old book. The design is very similar to the 1995 Lookout! Records release JD Salinger by the Wynona Riders, but Getting Used to Decapitation is distinct in its book-like qualities, including a biblical, red ribbon bookmark draped inside. Each of the four songs is labeled as a "chapter" and each chapter refers to a period of life: adolescence, adulthood, middle age, and elderliness. Despite the ambitious concept, the music itself is deliberately aloof and rough around the edges. A name like Pistolero implies swagger, and the band delivers: the drums are obviously not quantized, and the recordings have a natural, live feel. "The Children of Turbo Town" kicks off the CD with a raw two-step that shuffles along under perfectly raggedy guitar tones and overdriven vocals. "Ox Eyed Daisy" occasionally drops the ball vocally (raw is one thing, flat is another), but does justice to the simple sound pioneered by Elvis Costello in the late '70s and early '80s. The CD ends with "Honorary Plaque," a Kinks-esque acoustic ballad that wisely focuses on a character rather than relying on second-person theatrics. Getting Used to Decapitation is short, fun and to the point. Through five releases, Pistolero has been developing a distinct sound, and their songwriting is nearing its full potential. Another EP may be all it takes for this band to fly away. (Studio 5 Productions) www.3bullets.com -Harold Zimm
Many Thanks to Harold Zimm and the entire SE Performer crew for taking care of the locals. m

We got reviewed in Paste Magazine. You can see it better here. We were pretty stoked about this review...first one in a national magazine. I know it's not that long but it is a start and it means one thing....they have heard of us and now many more will too. We played Lenny's last night. I think the final tally of bands who didn't show up/cancled came to 27. I jest, but it was pretty sad. I can't be sure why Lenny's has lost some of the luster that it gained when it moved in to the new location. The fact that they don't give band drink discounts and have raised their production costs two fold might have caused some bands to turn away from them.Or maybe there are just that many bands who don't give a fuck. Either or...we had a great set and premiered 2 new songs for our set, Metro Man and Monster Cable. Here are some pics from the show....

So this past weekend we (Pistolero) went on a short jaunt out of town to visit and play with some friends in North Carolina. Instead of the typical blog, I'm just going to write captions. Here we go... This is the Cave in Chapel Hill. The name says it all. Michelle the bartender was very nice as well as Mouse (the owner). We had a great time there, but this is a scene setter. Corey and Tom just outside of the Cave. The entrance was down a flight of steps and right across the hall/alley from a dance club. This kept tricking us; we'd see folks coming down stairs and think they were headed our way only to turn at the last moment. The Cave streams all of their shows online so you can check out whats going on there whenever...here. They also have TVs set up that you can watch what the people on the web are watching. I took these 2 shots of North Elementary playing off the TVs and I like them a lot. John wanted me to take this...so I did. Plus you never get to see John on our live shots, he's always to the side or covered up (see pic below), so I figured he deserved some face time. This is what we looked like on stage. It was fun, but nooooo jumping. **Fill In Your Own Caption** This is all of our gear poised just outside of the Alibi Bar in Raliegh, NC. What you can't see here is the 26 step stairwell that we have to load down then back up. Inside the Alibi Bar with Betty ( Betty and the Boys, North Elementary) and the guys from Arkadelphia. Arkadelphia was great and look forward to see them playing with us here in town in the near future. There were a lot more pictures taken over the corse of the 4 days...but we don't know if we can legally show them here on My Space. Come by somtime and we'll show you the slides. Whilst doing a vanity search the other day (which turned up 13 listings on Amazon for The Last Fiore) John found a review of our set at the Other Sound Festival. It was done by a crew called Evil Sponge. Thir reviews are the most thorough that I've seen to date and they have an interesting style of posting. Two people alternate on how their night was going and their interpratation of the evenings music. They had nice things to say about us and we were flattered. I highly reccommend this blog for all of you music lovers out there. These folks are well informed about the Atlanta/Athens scene and they know their music history. You can read the review of the entire night here. Pistolero Eveil Sponge Other Sound Festival Review Nice Folks

Jeff Clark has once again graced the pages of Atlanta's own Stomp and Stammer with Pistolero. Our part is highlighted in yellow. We've been back and forth about the true meaning behind what Jeff wrote. Some say good, others say ambivalent, still others say "What are all these scribble lines on the paper for...Paper is for eating not scribble lines". Regardless of all that, what really matters is that we got our picture on the page when there were so many bigger bands that are written about on the same page; Mastadon, The Black Lips, Black Crows, Deerhunter, Collective Soul (SCORE!) Tiger! Tiger! Here is a blowup of what our piece reads...Let us know what you think it means. Also, don't go to the Clermont on the date it lists...we've already played and you'd be forced to watch old ladies shake it without the sothing sounds of Pistolero to pull you thru the experience. Last night's show at The Clermont Lounge Kicked major ASS!!!! I hate to sound all cliche but the mood in that room was electrifying! We got to play with one of our favorite bands Warm in the Wake. Their songs are so fucking good and catchy that I've had their tune American Prehistoric stuck in my head all day. Anyway, their set was damn good they played for like an hour. Every tune those guys played was fucking cool; "all killer no filler". The crazy things is these dudes are nice as fuck! Everyone in their band was stoked as much as we were to be playing at the Clermont, so the evening just felt really loose and to me it seemed like everyone had a great ass motherfucking time. Lots of people showed up and got wasted and really got into both bands. I think it might have been one of the funnest shows I've ever played; the energy and response from the crowd was great it was really fun to play for everyone that came out last night. Oh I almost forgot the strippers! I don't remember any of their names cause we were given free Colt 45 all night and well, I don't have a very good memory anyway but they were also really cool. I remember one of the chicks giving me a hug and saying "thanks for getting me paid" she also had some kind words for both bands. I think her words were " y'all fabulous" or something like that. We hung out till the place just about closed then Corey and I and a couple close friends went back to Turbo Town and stayed up till the sun came up watching Thunderbolt & Lightfoot. Its a great fucking movie if your a fan of Jeff Bridges or Clint Eastwood. I highly recommend you go rent it ASAP. I woke up this morning at 8am hung over as shit but whats new, that's how I roll. Sleep is highly over rated. We couldn't bring any cameras in to Claremont since they have a very strict policy against it so I've decided to draw for you all some of last nights high lights hope you enjoy them. Ps the views expressed in this blog are mine and solely mine and do not represent the rest of the lads in my band. John ferdinand Ochoa. Ladys of the Clermont.

So the day is here... Finally. The new EP has been uploaded to the My Space player, so you can now hear the tunes in the comfort of your home. You can buy the disc thru our website for $5 bucks or download the songs from the SnoCap store on our My Space page. Speaking of our website...it's all new and ready to be viewed by you. We hope all of you can ake it out tonight for what will prove to be a historic event. If last year at Lenny's it was our coming out party...this will be our Motion Picture debut. Love to all and I'm sure we'll have some good things to write about the Clermont show in the next few days. Pistolero and Warm in the Wake Live at the Clermont Lounge October 11th
