Read all about the EP I've been working so hard on these past few months. Also if you sign up to the CHART newsletter you can have the chance to win a special one-of-a-kind copy of The Tenth March, handmade by me -- I'll finish making it tonight and put up some pictures then.

I will be going into RDU to have a chat with Dave about the new EP, and probably also other more interesting stuff on October 7th between 4:30 and 5pm.

You can tune into to RDU in Christchurch @ 98.5FM, or if you're outside of Christchurch you can stream it off the 'net through Winamp, iTunes, or Songbird @ the RDU website

For the benefit of anyone who might possibly be interested:

The new record is nearing completion. As I'm sick at the moment and I cannot complete the vocals, I'm thinking of what else I can do; Album Art comes to mind.

Album art, for the most part isn't what it used to be... I think back to the alaways evocative Pink Floyd covers, Boston, Iron Maiden, The Beatles, Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, and then compare them with today... sure there are some, mainly indie groups, that put all the effort in like Of Montreal, Islands, Achitecture In Helsinki, Coconut Records, Joanna Newsom, Beck -- in particular the 2006 album where you got stickers and made the cover yourself, great concept.

I wonder how much effort I should put into this seeing as this release will be mainly digital, and only a very limited run will be printed up.. Also, I wonder what the art should be; photo, illustration, typography?.. A mixture?
At the same time, I know that iTunes and such like to have a little album art picture to go with the tracks of the record, but these are very small, and I don't know who really pays attention to them... It also gives me an idea that I could do many different pictures, one for each track.. seeing as this album is sort-of like a story, they could be like pages of a story-book.

I have had both positive feedback on the cover of the debut album (an illustration I did of an ant and a worm) and no feedback. But no negative feedback. This could be a reflection of people's politeness, having nothing nice to say so saying nothing at all, or people's shyness.

I guess this is something all bands that record go through, but something that is on my mind a lot, and I'm bored today, so I thought I would share. Feel free to share your thoughts below also.

aloha,
Steve

Due to some personal conflict and also some software problems, I haven't actually been recording -- I did a fair bit, but progress was stinted and slow. So with new software and a new frame of mind I will begin again, with more ambitious production ideas than ever before... Here's a sneak peek at the track list for the next record

title: The Tenth March & Other Such Tales
01 - Imaginary Friend part 1
02 - Don't Burn Hot Burn Bright
03 - Sunsets For Singles
04 - From: Koala, To: Walrus / The Tenth March
05 - Do The Nasty
06 - Imaginary Friend part 2

I'll try to get it all done before the end of September... Fingers crossed.

Just a little bit of news; as of the first of April - April Fools Day even, I will be "in the studio" starting work on my next record.
It won't be as long as the first, only 5 or maybe 6 tracks, but I think it'll be more difficult to make. It's shaping up to be somewhat of a concept album, with all the lyrics following a very strong theme. It wasn't intentional, but I found my thoughts dominated by these ideas and whenever I went to write, these things came out. It'll be quite esoteric but hopefully people can still relate, as it comes directly from the heart. I never thought I'd be involved in making a concept album, but here we are... Scary stuff, but how else would I grow if I didn't challenge myself?

Wish me luck,
x

The News says that the world is currently in somewhat of an economic hibernation... No one wants to buy anything anymore?? I buy stuff all the time.

Merchandise, like a CD, is a musicians main source of income... and a CD store owners main source of income is you. A mall operators source of income is the guy at the CD store... and so it goes on; think about it, if you don't go out to buy some CDs soon, society will crumble... It'll be like Mad Max ('Road Warrior' to Americans)..

You should go to your local music store and buy some CDs and then take them home and listen to them.. take the booklet out of the case and sit down in the sun and read about the production of the album, or the lyrics...
Buy something new that you dont even know about... You could find a new favourite band, who knows?
