It's currently overcast and in the mid-30s here in the north country of Dallas Texas, and I'm ready to return home to the Miami heat !

I'm armed with Airborne for my American Airlines flight this afternoon from DFW to FLL, and I can't wait to step out into that South Florida sunshine, heat, and humidity !  It's gonna feel good !

I'll be back a mi casa en Homestead esta noche.

This upcoming weekend at home will be spent relaxing, catching up with about a week's worth of E-MAIL traffic (I owe a whole bunch of you E-MAILs), doing laundry, and preparing for my much-anticipated return to Life Pointe Church on Sunday morning. It's where I need to be. It's where I belong. I'll be there - bright and early !

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is reminding airline passengers about the '3-1-1' rule for carrying liquids on planes. That's 3 ounces as the maximum size of any one container in a 1 quart bag - and 1 bag per person.

The following items should be in your checked bag, or shipped ahead of time, or simply left on the dining room table:

Gravy
Salad Dressing
Oils & Vinegars
Salsa
Sauces
Creamy Dips
Jams & Jellies
Soups
Cranberry Sauce
Egg Nog

Sodas, Beers, Wines, & Liquor

HAPPY THANKSGIVING !

I am literally watching Winter arrive here in North Texas as I type this blog entry on this Wednesday morning.

Over the past single hour temperatures all across the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex have nosedived from the low-70s down to the mid-50s !  I actually witnessed the cold front arrive right here in Allen Texas just a few minutes after 9 AM CST in the form of a dark squall line (a fast-moving narrow band of rain and wind). It plowed through, and the skies now look completely different than they have since my arrival 4 days ago. They look like the skies of Winter !

SNOW has actually been added to the official National Weather Service forecast for the Metroplex.

Here in North Texas cold fronts plow through on a regular basis in the Wintertime. Back in South Florida cold fronts e a s e their way through over the course of a few days (if they can even make it all the way through). I'll take the latter, and I'll be home soon to return to the warm sunshine of our subtropical paradise at the edge of the Caribbean.

I saw "Fred Claus" yesterday afternoon at a movie theatre in nearby Plano Texas. It became the 9TH box office movie of 2007 for me.

I have a higher standard for movies now than I did prior to my Awakening. This movie met that higher standard, and it really is 'family fare' (Rated PG). It's also boring in a lot of key spots. I found myself nearly nodding off several times throughout it. A movie that can't consistently keep my attention focused from start to finish won't get a rating out of me higher than a 3.0 (out of 4.0). It did have its funny moments, as I giggled occasionally - but no outright gutbusting laughter ensued. That's always a plus when I can do that.

Go see "Fred Claus" to see how the brotherly relationship between Nick (Santa) and Fred matured over the years. It's a solid 'C+' movie.

It's the most spontaneous blog entry of the week. It's what's on my mind in the now at this particular point in time and space. It's totally unrehearsed. It's straight from the hip. It's honest. It's ON !

1.  When I eat food I generally do so slowly, peacefully, quietly, and politely. That is - with the exception of chicken wings. Something about them wings quickly turns me into a voracious chicken-chomping monster once I get started with them. I just can't help myself.

2.  Here in the north country of Dallas Texas one of their major expressways is the 'President George Bush Turnpike'. It's fun to hear phrases such as 'Take George Bush to the mall' or 'Get on George Bush to get away from the mess over there' or 'How long did it take you to get to George Bush ?'.

3.  One of the things that makes me quiet, withdrawn, sad, and miserable is when I'm being ignored or ridiculed. That doesn't happen at all when I'm with my Life Pointe Church family or at work, but it does still happen elsewhere - even with my own immediate family. Why bother talking ?

4.  Propel Fitness Water - specifically Natural Grape Flavor - is one of my favourite beverages in the world. Now that's tasty stuff - and it's good for me !

5.  I always thought that my brother was one of the worst drivers that I ever knew in my entire life. That is - until I realized that there's an even worse driver in our family. She's my sister-in-law, and she's a driving 'Road Rage Files'. Her vehicle could be bullet-ridden if she drove in South Florida like she does here in North Texas.

6.  If I had the ultimate power to do so then I would ban the use of hand dryers from all public bathrooms. They blow and spread warm and humid germs on your hands right after you've supposedly washed them thoroughly. Once your hands eventually dry out you've got to open the germ-infested bathroom door - with your hands. Paper towels were a magnificent invention. They should be mandatory by law in all public bathrooms.

7.  Me, my brother, and my sister-in-law played an 18-hole round of minature golf this afternoon. I had one of the worst scores (50) in modern history due to a very rough start. After minature golf we all got on go-carts for a 7½-minute drive around the track over and over again. It's a Pre-Thanksgiving Day tradition with me and my brother. I'm glad that my sister-in-law is now part of that tradition (no matter how bad of a driver she is on the real roads).

8.  I can't take a shower without hot water and Irish Spring soap.

9.  Most of the happiest moments of my life from 1995 to 2006 (as few as they were) involved only two living breathing bodies - my beloved cat Boots at home and my little brother Danny on vacation with me in Orlando. Those are moments that simply can't be relived ever again - nor should they. It's all about looking ahead and moving forward on this fantastic journey. It's all about creating all-new happy moments.

10.  I think I will have consumed more food (by volume) since the last week of October through Thanksgiving Day than in the previous 10½ months combined (prior to the start of this nearly month-long vacation). My goal is to not exceed 170 pounds. I think I'm failing right now. May the diet commence this Friday as I return home to Homestead !

It's been quite warm and dry (rain-free) here in the north country of Texas since I've been here. It's been very South Florida like, and very unlike a normal weather pattern for this time of the year here in North Texas. Temperatures should be in the lower-40s early in the morning and the lower-60s during the middle of the afternoon during an average mid-November. Not so recently. Not average at all. It's been up to 20 degrees warmer than that - day and night. But Summertime comes to a grinding and crashing halt tomorrow !

What will start out as a rather mild Wednesday morning (in the mid-60s) will quickly turn into a raw, windy, and cold afternoon as temperatures plummet during the day from the 60s, into the 50s, and even into the upper-40s by sunset. But it won't stop there. The free-fall of the mercury shall continue on. Once Thanksgiving Morning arrives we will only be a handful of degrees above the freezing mark !

This Friday I make my grande (and final) return to el Sur de Florida. I'll be leaving behind 48°F coldness and arriving head-first into 82°F warmth. It appears that South Florida will stay warm and humid for an extended period of time (possibly through the end of the month), so if I can just get through about 48 hours of wintertime here then I will be just fine to arrive in that Miami heat this Friday afternoon !

ANOCHE was Noche Tres aqui en el Norte de Texas, and last night the Day Family ate at this fine local ristorante Mexicano. That's right - I live in Homestead Florida which (unofficially) has the most (and best) local and family owned Mexican restaurants concentrated within any specific locale in all del Sur de Florida. South Floridians go out of their way to drive all the way down to the Homestead area just to eat at any of our fine Mexican restaurants.

OK back to Jalapeño's Grill in Allen Texas. It's local and family owned, and they have two locations here in the north country of Dallas.

I enjoyed the Spinach & Chicken Quesadillas dinner. It was delightful. I adore the spinach. It's my favourite legumbre. Me gusta pollo tambien.

Mexican food is one of those 'new' discoveries to me in that I hardly ever ate it, and I claimed that I didn't like it for pretty much the first 35 years or so of my life. Nowadays I always look forward to comer los platos de los Mexicanos en todas partes.

ESTA NOCHE we will apparently be eating some outrageously delicious chicken wings from this popular place. Legendary Dallas Cowboys QB Troy Aikman emphatically states that they are 'the best wings I've ever had in my life !'

Be sure to check back here later tonight to see what I think of them there wings. (That's what's important.)

I've only seen 8 movies at the box office thus far in 2007, and that's the least amount of movies that I've seen in a single calendar year since the apparent box office drought of 1995 when I only went out to see 2 movies - "The Brady Bunch Movie" and "Tommy Boy".

Since 1995 I have seen the following number of movies per year:

1995 - 02
1996 - 09
1997 - 11
1998 - 14
1999 - 18
2000 - 27
2001 - 22
2002 - 20
2003 - 30
2004 - 28
2005 - 16
2006 - 23
2007 - 08 (so far)

Why the sudden disinterest in going out to see a movie in 2007 ?

Here are 3 reasons:

1.  I'm a customer of Netflix, so I can receive movies on DVD whenever I wish. (I barely use that service too.)

2.  There's a definite lack of really good movies that I really wish to spend the time and money on. The time is far more important than the money, and I have much less spare time nowadays - especially on the weekends - than I did prior to the start of 2007. (This leads to the next and most important reason.)

3.  Most movies that are out there today go against my new faith, love, allegiance, and obedience towards God. Much of what 'Hollywood' puts out is just not congruent with this fantastic journey. I have higher standards now than I did last year. God has raised the bar, and I'm holding it up there.

Washington Redskins QB Jason Campbell had a career day - 33 completions out of 54 attempts for 348 yards in the air. A. Randle El added another completion of 19 yards during a trick play that worked just fine. That's 367 passing yards - but only 62 yards on the ground. Whenever there's too much passing action in the air and not enough rushing action on the ground the ultimate result is generally the same - a loss. Too much passing usually means too much catching-up.

The Redskins had plenty of chances to take the lead during the final 3 minutes and win the game. I kept seeing visions of a Redskins touchdown at the end of the game to take the lead 29-28 and then convert on a 2-pointer to finalize a wonderful score of Redskins 31 Cowboys 28. That didn't happen, and the thousands and thousands (really) of disappointed Redskins fans poured out of Texas Stadium after it was all done and over with visions of what could have been and what should have been.

There was definitely a prominent sea of Redskins red and white all throughout Texas Stadium. If I had to guess then I would state that there could have been up to 10,000 Redskins fans in the stands (out of over 60,000 in attendance). My brother even went as far as stating that it could have been closer to only 3 Cowboys fans to every 1 Redskins fan. Me and my brother were surrounded by Redskins fans in front of us, behind us, above us, below us, to the left of us, and to the right of us. We had our own loud chants going throughout the game including a shockingly noticeable 'DE-FENSE !' chant while the Cowboys' offense was on the field !

After Thanksgiving my beloved original hometown (5-5) Washington Redskins will follow me over to Florida. They take on the NFC South-leading (6-4) Tampa Bay Buccaneers this upcoming Sunday afternoon at 1 PM EST. I'll watch it on FOX-TV (if available on WSVN-7). If not then I'll watch it electronically at NFL.COM.

My flight from FLL (Ft. Lauderdale-Hollywood) to DFW (Dallas-Ft. Worth) went nice and smooth. It was quite the unusual flight. It pulled away from the gate a minute or two early, it took off into the air a few minutes early, and it landed safely at DFW at least 20 minutes early !

Once the baggage carousel finally got going with all of my flight's bags I only had to wait a few minutes for my single suitcase to make its grande appearance. It's always a nice outcome when you see that your luggage has made the same successful trip as you have.

It was a fairly typical flight. A guy in the row directly behind me was coughing and sneezing. I'm used to that inflight. This time around I played it smart by armouring myself with Airborne early this morning before I even left my home. If it's good enough for a second-grade teacher then it's good enough for me. I've never tried Airborne before. I went with the Original Zesty Orange flavour. It was rather zesty - and tasty !

I usually get a single cold a year, and since I already went through 'cold season' (during pretty much the entire first week of my recent Carnival Freedom cruise) I should be sick-free until sometime during the latter portion of 2008. It feels good to be healthy - especially after enduring for several hours in a MASSIVE-germ environment (airport and airplane).

I have arrived safely in the Dallas Texas area (courtesy of American Airlines), and I am currently located at my brother and sister-in-law's house in the beautiful suburban bedroom community of Allen Texas - located perhaps a half-hour north of Downtown Dallas.

North Texas is fun to visit a few times per year, but I wouldn't want to live here. The harsh weather is one major problem for me. It's too hot and dry in the Summer, and it's too cold and wet in the Winter. I prefer the much more predictable and stable weather pattern of El Sur de Florida. I think that I would have a rough time living more than 100 or so miles away from the Atlantic Ocean. I adore those comfortable ocean breezes and the warm tropical humidity that it brings in.

Living in the Central Time Zone also presents a problem for me. Prime Time Network Television begins at 8 PM (7 PM Central). It wouldn't seem right watching my favourite TV shows from 7 to 9 rather than from 8 to 10. Yes - I know that Prime Time extends for another hour after that until 11 PM Eastern / 10 PM Central, but I typically don't watch that final hour of Prime Time because it's mostly all dramas and I don't do dramas. I do reality shows and game shows. Scripts ?  Who needs them !  Writer's Guild Strike ?  Who cares !

So there you go - two reasons why I couldn't and wouldn't live in the Dallas Texas area - the harsh weather and the central time zone.

But I'm sure glad that I'm here spending the Thanksgiving Week with my brother, sister-in-law, their dog, Mom, and Dad. It wouldn't be the same without them. It wouldn't be Thanksgiving Week without them.

Exactly 20 years ago tomorrow - November 17TH 1987 (a Tuesday) - I returned home stateside (to Northern Virginia) after living in the U.K. for 2 years and 1 week at my first Air Force duty station (RAF Fairford). I was exactly half my current age at the time.

Exactly 2 weeks later - very early in the morning on December 01ST 1987 (also a Tuesday) - I arrived at my next Air Force duty station - Homestead Air Force Base Florida.

We officially got down to 55°F here in Homestead early this (Friday) morning just before 7 AM, and that makes it our coldest morning in nearly 7 months - since the frigid morning of April 17TH 2007.

It was our 2ND morning this month down into the 50s, and tomorrow (Saturday) morning we'll do it all over again. I'm projecting an early-morning temperature of between 55°F and 57°F - and then the South Florida warm-up shall commence.

I'm off to Dallas Texas tomorrow morning to get in on some warm weather out west - that is - until the bottom completely falls out on the temperatures over there. I may be dealing with daytime high temperatures in the 50s next Wednesday and Thanksgiving Day with possible near-freezing temperatures on those two nights. It should be perfect hockey weather for next Wednesday night, and that's what I'll be seeing. I'll be at the American Airlines Center with my brother and sister-in-law for an NHL slugfest between the visiting Anaheim Ducks and the hometown Dallas Stars.
