So it's nearly Christmas :) I can't actually wait to put my tree up...it's going to be my first Christmas in my new place...think I might actually go a little overboard on the decorations. haha.

I'm also looking forward to seeing my family, as we're all pretty much spread out across the UK. It will be nice to sit down with them, have a drink and maybe eat some turkey...

So we're still mixing the CD...haven't heard from Ben since Friday (we went out for a few beers for his birthday...and drank way too much), but I trust he's been working on the songs. He's been trying to find the right reverb for my vocal for quite a while now...but that's what I love about him...his ear for detail and making things sound way better than I had ever expected. It's those little things that count right?

I have a couple of gigs this month too...the first is actually this Friday night at a pub called The Crown in Aldbourne, Marlborough, then I'm at Riffs Bar in Swindon on Friday 18th, followed by another gig in Swindon at The Beehive on the 21st. Details of all the gigs can be found on Myspace.

If you haven't become a friend (fan or follower) on either Myspace, Facebook or Twitter, please make sure you do as I LOVE getting in contact with all of you. Thats what makes this whole experience woth while and real...the sharing. Sometimes it can feel so cold out here that its nice to talk and experience this journey with you.

Anyway...its late and I'm talking shite so I better go.

Enjoy your week

Love always

Ben sent me a rough version of the whole EP last night...can't believe we've (nearly) finally arrived. I've been playing it all morning just so that I'm sure of the direction we're going in. I'm pretty sure im sure :)
I am so happy with the way things have turned out and progressing. I have a meeting with Stuart (4th Street Records) lined up to discuss the format of the digipack...I don't know whether to keep it simple or really go to town. We'll see I guess.
I've also been in rehearsals with the band for the past month. Its been awesome trying out the new material as a 4 piece as the songs really come alive and take on another form almost...safe to say that as soon as the EP is released, we'll all head back into the studio to record the fulll-band debut album.

Hope all is well in your corner of the world.

Love always,

Last night we managed to record every single song for the EP...I had expected to record 2 or 3 at the most. I guess it was one of those nights where everything just fell into place...

So. here's the tracklisting:

1) Our Song
2) Paper Cup
3) Oh So Softly
4) Home
5) Lullaby

All songs are performed 'live' and acoustic in the studio, as I wanted a true representation of each song, and how it would sound if it was performed 'live'.

With previous sessions, I have found that the technicalities of the studio i.e. the headphones, confined spaces, and the fear of having to make things sound 'perfect' made me want to approach this session in a different way...hence my decision to record without the aid of any headphones, and performing the songs as if it was my last time, in complete near darkness...

In these conditions, I was able to focus on the subject of each song, and perform them like they should be...with meaning behind every. single. word.

I can't wait for you to hear it :)

Its party time

Hey

Its been a while since my last update, so I thought I'd do a quick one before I do another big one...make sense? Its just basically to let you know where we are with the EP and when you can expect it to be released.

Im heading into the studio tonight (Tuesday 24th November) to record acoustic guitar and vocals for most of the songs. The EP will contain 5 acoustic tracks, some you will have heard and others are fresh out of my mouth... I'll post the track-listing later this week when I am able to give you a full-update.

We're looking at December/January regarding the release (once the EP has been recorded and mastered + artwork printed etc) and will be available as a digital download online, as well as a digipack available from my website (www.billyjonmusic.com).

Thats all for now...oh and I've posted new mixes of 'Paper Cup' and 'Home' on both Facebook and Myspace, so check them out when you can.

If you're not a fan on Facebook, you can find me here:

Hope you're having a great week

Last night I roasted some summer vegetables and ate them with buttered potatoes and a slice of quiche. I wish I could say that I made the quiche from scratch but my culinary skills aren't quite there yet :(

However, it was awesome...

So how is everyone? Myspace is getting quieter by the day isn't it? Its a funny old world because one month Facebook is favourite, then before you know it Myspace swings back into motion and is then the new flavour of the month...I like them all (even Twitter) for the different things they have to offer, hence why I use them all.

Myspace is the coolest cat though in my book. I just love the way it lets you customize everything right down to the look of your page...its a great tool for musicians and bands and can even act as their official website. I guess with everyone favouring Facebook right now...its getting a little lonely over here. Ah well...

If you are on Facebook, come over and add me either as a 'friend' or 'fan'...I'll let you decide which:

For fans (BTW I hate the term FANS):

The new EP 'The Darkness Of The Night' is finished and is just waiting for me to complete the artwork so expect that in a few weeks if not sooner. We decided to keep the recording simple and I pretty much sat down in the studio with my guitar and played LIVE straight into the microphones. There aren't any overdubs as I wanted the songs to shine without any frills...the next CD (which will be my debut album) will be recorded with a full band :)

Also I have just found out that I will be playing this Saturday (10th) at Riffs Bar, Swindon around 8pm in aid of Breakthrough Breast Cancer...if any of you are around it would be great to see you...

As always,
Lots of love

Hi Friends

Hope you're all well.

Things have been busy here lately with writing, recording, playing and most recently getting involved with 4th Street Records both musically and behind-the-scenes. Its an exciting chapter both for me and my music and I just wanted to let you all know about 4th Street and what the label is all about...

The label was founded a number of years ago by Shaun Buswell and Stuart Gould with the single aim of promoting and launching the british group 'Buswell'. The first single 'Let Me Love' sold out and the video was aired on MTV (UK) and various other music channels. The group went onto release several other singles and an album with the label culminating in 2 UK headline tours.

During this time, Shaun and Stuart discovered the music of 'Ox' (Canada) and 'The Flaming Moes' (Sweden). 4th Street Subsequently released the citically acclaimed Ox album 'Dust Bowl Revival' and The Flaming Moes single 'I Got It'.

Now in its 4th year, the label is about to embark in a new chapter in its history. . .

3 Months ago Stuart approached me asking if I would like to come aboard and work with and build upon the continued success of the label. Without hesitation, we set about rebranding its foundations, launching new Myspace and Facebook identities as well as releasing our 2009 Festival CD, comprising of the best national and international acts associated with 4th Street.

My debut EP 'The Darkness Of The Night' will also be released on the label which I am very excited about. 'Lullaby' is also featured on the aformentioned 2009 Festival CD which will be doing the rounds in the next few weeks.

Not only will I be releasing my music, but I will be working behind the scenes working with the bands, promoting the tours, working the merch tables, selling CD's, maintaining the online ident of the label, designing the flyers, posters, adverts, labels, t-shirts and everything in-between.

Shaun, Stuart and I have decided to create a label that truely LOVES music...we want to recreate that feeling you get when you open a limited edition vinyl, CD or hear a piece of jaw-dropping music for the first time....its that BUZZ.

We're going to take pride and passion with every release.
We're going to spend hours writing special thank you's to all that purchase our music. We're going to stay up late sticking down hand stitched labels that we've previously stitched the night before...

We're going to do it all.

I hope that you will join us, and embark on our journey of discovery...

After all, the road ain't as fun without you...

Lend us your ears

Take all of me, when you leave
Cos I have stopped breathing, please let me breathe
Inside I'm hurting, and I need more time
My heart is broken, but I'll be fine

When you think you're doing fine
And all your blood's run dry
You gotta find another reason
To carry on cos you're alive

And when you're feeling all alone
When you're sat there by the phone
Another conversation killer
Pack your bags we're going home

We're going home

My ship is sinking, through the sea
But my friends will save me and set me free
Inside I'm hurting, and I need more time
My heart is broken, but I'll be fine

When you think you're doing fine
And all your blood's run dry
You gotta find another reason
To carry on cos you're alive

And when you're feeling all alone
When you're sat there by the phone
Another conversation killer
Pack your bags we're going home

We're going home

Please find me again
When we're both cats
In a different life

Won't you
Please find me again
When we're both cats
In a different life...

Hey

Its been a while since my last update so this is well overdue...been busy with life including work, partying and of course, the all important forthcoming EP. I have never been so tired in all my life...

So I've decided to keep the EP raw and simple. Me and Ben went into the studio last week and recorded a continious stream for 60 minutes. I was sat in a booth with my guitar and played/sung live into the mics...what you get is a bit like a 'live' experience which I think really makes the songs shine. We recorded too many tunes so I've been trying to work out which ones should go on the first EP, and which ones should go on the second EP. I think I'm finally pretty much there :)

I've also decided upon the title for the EP which took me aaaggees! I didn't want something obvious like a name of one of the songs, but I wanted something subtle and chose a lyric  that appears in one of the songs. I think it sums up what the EP is about as there is a theme that pretty much runs through from start to finish.

Now I'm not going to announce the title or tracklisting just yet...I want to be sure before I do. It will be very soon though so hang on in there :)

Release is slated for Late September on 4th Street Records.

Hope you're all well.

Take care
