So I've been majorly lame on taking pictures of my makeup the past several months.
I'm going to try to start doing it again but I thought I might as well just make a new blog while I'm at it.

:D

Current mood:  bouncy

Due to the high volume of messages I have been getting that are the same questions over and over I'm doing this. HOPEFULLY it cuts down on at least a bit of the messages.

1. What brand do you use?
I use mostly MAC eyeshadows. Almost EVERYTHING I use is MAC with some Urban Decay, Make Up For Ever, etc thrown in. I'm not loyal to any one brand--I use whatever I like. I just end up using a lot of MAC because the pallets are convenient.
2. What kind of camera do you use? What settings do you have it on?
My camera is a Canon A620. I put it on Aperture Priority. For my super close up pictures of my eyes I have it on Aperture Priority and Micro settings.

3.Did you go to school for makeup?
YES! I went to Cinema Makeup School in LA.<[[iframe]] id="body" name="body" src="modules/blogv2/static/html/blank.htm" width="525" height="200">..
As far as the best school in LA right now I'd definitely recommend MUD in Burbank, CA.
Though I don't recommend schooling whatsoever, it's expensive for what you actually learn and I've heard from many people from VARIOUS schools that they feel they did not get what they paid for.

4. How did you start out doing makeup?

I still am starting out. I went to school for makeup and then through modelmayhem.com started building up my portfolio with TFP shoots.
Network network network, and work your way up the chain. As you get more work, and better quality work, in your portfolio you'll be able to test with better photographers and models.

5. I am thinking of becoming a MUA, how do I do it?
I'm getting this question a LOT, all the time--so I'm going to answer it once and for all because the answer is long and I don't have the time to respond to everyone who asks it.

Go to school OR find pro MUA's to shadow, apprentice under, assist, etc. If you don't choose the school route (and I would say you shouldn't) you can invest money you would have put towards school to paying professional MUA's and photographers to teach you. MUAs of course will teach you tricks of the trade, and help you with your craft, photographers can help you understand how lighting affects your work and give unique perspective on what THEY need from a makeup artist.

Start building a portfolio. I love online networking, and modelmayhem.com. Even if it's just pics of yourself, it something to show people to start working with low end models and photographers to get practice and work for your book. You do a lot a LOT of free work while you build a portfolio and your skills.

6. How do you get your colors so vibrant?

Use a base. I like lots of different kinds. Some popular ones are Urban Decay Primer Potion, MAC Shadesticks...etc.

7. Do you photoshop your makeup?

NOT AT ALL!!! I don't even know how, nor do I own photoshop.

8. Do you teach classes?

I am now teaching classes and giving personal lessons!! Message me for details.

10. Who does your tattoos?
Joe Truck at Ace of Hearts Tattoo in Los Angeles CA

11. Do you have any full pictures of your tattoos?

Yes, but I sure as hell am NOT going to put them online, especially myspace. Too often through the internet designs are stolen.
12. I am a hairstylist/aspiring MUA/etc, can I assist you/work with you?

Everyone who asks me gets the same answer. Send me your name, phone number, and what you do and I'll add your info into my phone. If I need someone I will send out a mass text and it is first come first served. I rarely use assistants but hair stylists are always in demand.

Art is subjective. It's self expression, letting yourself make a tangible result of what's swimming in your head.
I am not a painter or a sculptor. I don't carve objects out of wood or draw landscapes in pastels.
My canvas is myself. I am my own ever-evolving work of art.
Some may not like it, but that is precisely why art is created--to shock or please the viewer, to stir up some sort of emotion, to get a reaction.

I am happy with who I am. I enjoy the choices I make day to day in how I want my art to appear.

You may not like it but I do, and that is all that matters.

Okay so this is my first tutorial so bear with me. I was trying to get the hang of it.

It's not as easy to remember to stop and take pictures in between steps as I thought it would be. Some of the pictures are blurry, yada yada yada.

Also I am no leopard print pro, this is only my third time doing it.

Okee dokee here we go.

Stuff I be using:

Blacktrack fluidline
Silver pigment
eye drops
spatula
eyeliner brush

Starting with my makeup all done except for the leopard print

First I take my eyeliner brush and dip it in the fluidline

Now I figure out where exactly I want the leopard print to be. I personally like it on the outside part of my eyeshadow rather then underneath it. That'..'s eyes. No unnecessary attention to my dark circles thank you very much...
:)

Then I start outlining the little leopard spots one by one with the fluidline.
The great thing about leopard print is almost any shape goes. It'..'s hard to mess up.
I suggest finding something leopard print to use as a reference when you first do it. Find a shape and copy it. Move the brush over and copy another shape, etc. Until you have as much on your face as you want.

Done with the outline on that eye:

Now do the other eye!

Okay so now both eyes are done with the outline

Now for the next step. I take my silver pigment

And with the spatula I scoop some out and put it in an empty spot in a pallette.

I then add some eye drops to the pigment. Eye drops work better than water when you want a higher impact more opaque look.

Mix it all up to the consistancy i want

And then fill in each outlined spot

repeat on both sides of course

And voila!

I hope that helps, even if just a little bitty bit.

So.
Sooooo.
So I had this shoot yesterday afternoon/evening.
The concept was a Living Dead Doll type doll, abandoned in a burning house. So we actually shot in an abandoned, burned out house in Redlands. The place is falling apart, some of the floors in the rooms are collapsed, it looked like the whole thing could possibly just collapse in a heap any minute. We weren't supposed to be there, and had to get over/under the fence to get in there.
It was like guerilla photoshooting, I swear. And people kept stopping and watching us, or shouting things out their windows as they drove by, ect...I guess when you're making a girl white on the side of the road it gets attention...ha ha.

So we shot around and in the house I'd say for a bit over an hour, got in our cars, and drove about 1000 ft to another location to see if we could get any shots there before it got too dark. So we pulled into this large mass of land, not EVEN surrounded by a fence, where there is huge piles of logs, all stacked up, and some piles of mulch and cut up wood bits. We tried to shoot there a bit, but it got DARK fast and were only there for about 15 minutes.
So with the shoot wrapped we walked back to our cars, and just stood by them for about 5 minutes talking. Well all of the sudden this helicopter is above us, and it starts shining it's spotlight on the ground. Then it's shining it on US. And it wouldn't take it OFF of us. I figure whoever was flying it was probably just being an asshole and saw a girl with pink hair and another girl all white with a red wig and a weird costume and was trying to bug us. I mean, we've got me and the model, the photographer, and his little sister just standing around, what threat are we? So I'd say for a good 3 to 5 minutes he just keeps going in circles, keeping the light trained on us, and we finished talking and went in our cars to leave.
Lo and behold, a voice comes from above, telling us to not leave, the police are on their way.
Reanna, the model, got out of her car and tried to motion to him that we understood, while I sat in my car whimpering like a little baby because cops scare me, and now so do helicopters. He kept repeating over and over, to not leave, that leaving was a crime, and to wait for the police to get there. I eventually got out of my car, as well as the photographer Nathan, and his sister.

Then we just stood there while the helicopter stayed above us, and we wondered out loud how much MONEY it was costing to have this helicopter staying over us for what ended up being about 20 minutes. I thought maybe someone had called the cops on us when we were in the house, since we did ignore the no tresspassing sign, and PLENTY of people could see us at the house in the daylight.

Well by the time THREE cop cars showed up TEN MINUTES LATER (guess they have REAL criminals to apprehend), I was pretty much scared crapless that we were going to get a fine or something for tresspassing. The photographer went to talk to the cops, and then one of the cops comes over with him, and kind of light-heartedly asks what kind of pictures we were shooting...
Well come to find out the stupid helicopter thought we were trying to STEAL THE GIANT LOGS...WHAT THE FUCK!?!?!??!!??!

LOGS!??!?!?!

WHY!?!?!??!

this place wasn't even fenced off, and there wasn't anything saying we shouldn't be there. Apparently the STUPID helicopter man thought that with our three vehicles we could attach a giant log to the tops of all three of our cars and drive along with it??? Yeah....RIGHT!!!
I mean, I have a little Saturn, Reanna has a small car, and the photographer has an suv...how in the world of physics is that even plausible???
But the cops were really nice and friendly, and apologized, and let us go on our way.

So citizens of Redlands, THIS is where your taxes are going, to fund helicopters wasting time, fuel, and energy to keep captive people just trying to get some pictures taken, GEE WHIZ.

I wonder what people driving by thought, when they first saw and heard a helicopter holding us there and shouting at us, and later when THREE fucking cop cars showed up to get us criminal artists.

Poo.

I've been having some very strange dreams lately. For one, for a couple of months now I have been having lots of dreams of kittens and puppies. But I mean, like DOZENS of kittens and puppies at once. It's strange how often I have 'em.

Then the other night I had this dream about Ben Affleck. I  don't remember too much of it, just that I was at the computer, and out of the corner of my eye I saw him stab some woman who had been a part of the dream, and then he ran over and stabbed me. I then proceeded to write on myspace that I had been stabbed, and for someone to help me please.
Then I remember trying to crawl to the door, and people from myspace had somehow gotten my phone number and were calling me to see if I really had been stabbed or not.
Wow I guess I need to lay off the myspaceing, but seriously Ben Affleck?!? Why him!!?

Then this morning I had a dream that Ludacris and I were hanging out. Just chilaxin and shootin' the breeze. I was a little annoyed with him for delaying the release of his new album, but what's a few weeks between friends?

I think now whenever I see Ben Affleck in movie or something I will feel a slight phantom pain where the bitch stabbed me.

If you can see my pictures on here then you can see I have bright pink hair...with some purple streaks. To help keep my hair at it's best, I put a little hairdye in my shampoo and conditioner, so that a little color is put back on my hair every time I wash it. A few weeks ago I had the brilliant notion to do the same thing with my hair products, so I put some in the Catwalk Smooth and Shine or whatever it is that I use before I straighten my hair. The stuff is usually a purple shade, and of course the color dissapears in your hair. When I added the pink it turned it a really pretty bright magenta color...sometimes when I go to put it in my hair I just stare at how pretty and bright the color is...so anyway...
One would THINK that it being sugh a bright, pink color, and KNOWING I put dye in my shampoo and conditioner, that someone wouldn't just USE my hair products without asking.
Well last night I was on the computer and my mom asks me if I put any hair dye in that stuff. I knew right away what she'd done. One time she used my brush that had hair dye on it and had two pink streaks in her hair for about two weeks.
THIS time she used my product and put it allll over her blonde hair, giving it a pink tinge all over. She said people at work kept looking at her funny and asking "Is your hair pink?"

She said the thought had even crossed her mind that I had put dye in it but she dismissed it. Sigh. Silly mother. THAT'LL teach you to use my stuff without asking!!! The good news is, now I know it works to put dye in there. I just wish my mother didn't have to look like she was trying really hard to be "cool" for me to learn that.

UPDATE, Semtember 8th: She did it AGAIN. This time she used  my rattail comb to comb her hair...after I used it to comb through the purple dye when I redid my streaks the other day. There was like, GLOBS of hairdye on it and she used it...ah GEE WHIZ MOM.
