Blue Dahlia will soon announce their upcoming fall tour schedule. The first appearance will begin in September with a special performance of revised
scores for Buster Keaton and Laurel and Hardy shorts
at the Acorn Theater in Three Oaks, MI. In October, the band will tour throughout Michigan, Indiana, and Ohio performing their original score to NOSFERATU.
Derek is still hard at work reviewing tracks for the upcoming collection of released and unreleased re-mastered recordings featuring past and present line-ups. The new collection will also feature a new studio recording of FATE and an, as of yet, untitled song. It should be out by year's end.

bLuE daHLia would like to express our sadness for the loss of our friend, Nathan Ndjharine, who passed away last weekend accidently.
Nathan grew up under Apartheid rule during Namibia's occupation by South Africa. During this time, he was influenced very heavily by Bob Marley's music and the positive message of liberating Africa from the colonial powers and saw reggae as the music for the liberation struggle. Nathan began playing guitar at the early age of 12 and played in several bands in Namibia with home-town friends as well as other musicians from South Africa. In New York during the 80s and early 90s, Ndjiharine joined the Yelling Beat and Global Warming world beat bands and played the local club circuit. He was also a founding member of Yoroka and Zion Lion, two of West Michigan's best world beat music groups. Levi had the profound privelege of performing with Nathan in Yoroka, and Derek had the honor of recording Yoroka's full length CD, The Road is Long in 2000.
Reminding us just how thin the thread of life is, we hope you'll discover how deep a life he lived through his music. Please check out the links below. Information regarding upcoming tributes will be forthcoming.
He will be missed, but not forgotten.
Safe passage.

It was with great sadness that we discovered that Kevin Brown passed away this week. He will be missed by all who new him. Kalamazoo has lost a talented engineer, musician, and friend. Kevin was the co-owner and operator of Brown and Brown Recording studios.I had the pleasure of working with him over the years. He had such a polite, caring and thoughtful way about him-a quality rarely possessed. Please keep his Son Colin, daughter Shelagh and wife Debbie in your thoughts.
Kevin will be missed.

Modern music ensemble bLuE daHLia performs their original soundtrack live with the vintage Buster Keaton silent film Seven Chances. Don't expect melodramatic musical cliches-- bLuE daHLia brings this film classic into the hearts of today's audiences by using modern, multi-stylistic music that helps connect the past with the present. The result is full of both history and hilarity that is great fun for audiences of all ages.
Seven Chances (1926) features Keaton as young James Shannon—a stockbroker down on his luck who suddenly learns that he will inherit the seven million dollars that will save his future-- but only if he can marry by seven o'clock that same evening. When Shannon's steady girl turns him down, his business partner places an ad in the newspaper. The mayhem that ensues includes bridal procession of epic proportions!
bLuE daHLia is a "world fusion" quintet hailing from Kalamazoo. Their unique sound is marked by multi-ethnic rhythms and languages against a shifting tapestry of guitars, mandolin, flute, and saxophone. bLuE daHLia's collaboration with silent film began at The Sound of Silents Film Festival in 1996, and brought inspiration for a dozen silent film scores, plus work with modern film and advertising in addition to their regular recording and performing. Blue Dahlia had a great Valentine's performance at the State Theatre in Kalamazoo. Thanks to all who came out to see us and support WMUK in the process. Due to new licensing developments, it may be the last time the band will be aable to perform it live with their original score. Sad news, we know, for those who loved the score and the movie.
New dates have been added to usher in the new month. So say goodbye to those February BLAHS and come check us out in Plainwell at the Ransom District Library, in Ann Arbor for 46th Ann Arbor International Film Festival , and at Bell's Brewery in Kalamazoo. Check out the dates and information listed on our upcoming shows section.
The Dahlia's head back into the studio at the end of march to start work on some upcoming releases. Stay tuned!
That's all for now and just think Spring!

May peace break into your house and may thieves come to steal your debts. May the pockets of your jeans become a magnet for $100 bills. May love stick to your face like Vaseline and may laughter assault your lips! May your clothes smell of success like smoking tires and may happiness slap you across the face and may your tears be that of joy. May the problems you had forget your home address! In simple words ............
May 2008 be the best year of your life!!!

"I have never heard anything quite like your music. it is to me what art should be. it makes me feel like looking inside.
anyway, thank you for sharing your music with the world"
Feeling extremely grateful, we reply and replied, as we usually do, to everyone who finds a little bit of the worth and fun in bLuE daHLia;
"We look inside our group everyday and don't often find reassurance that we are staying true to ourselves, each other, or even finding a reason for the madness of being an artist. You've found the authentic bLuE daHlia!
Over a decade and a day later, we're glad you liked our stuff.
happy Thanksgiving."
