BEYOND ROBSON:The Young and the Restless helps me stay young (at least)
Posted by Michelle in Music
A good friend of mine from highschool and I recently reunited and decided to help each other out of our pending old ladyhoods. So after being handed a snazzy little business card by a stranger at The Royal Unicorn during one of our hopeless attempts, we were quickly reminded of how very young we actually might be with the year "80's" printed on the card in bright blue.
Last Thursday while at work, I called up my friend and announced, "Tonight's the night! We're gonna be young and restless!" Then my friend said, "Don't you work on Fridays?" But I chose to ignore her question, and at 10pm sharp, we headed down to Gastown.
The Young and the Restless is an 80's/indie dance party presented by Sex Attackk every Thursday at The Met. The fabulous night promises free cover before 11pm, and only $4 afterwards, as well as excellent drink specials worth many high-fives! Since my friend and I got there before 11pm, my entire night cost a little less than doing two loads of laundry in my apartment basement! The room was filled mainly with boys that had thighs as skinny as my arms stuffed into tight jeans and girls in vintage dresses and neon colours. My friend and I spent a few hours flailing our arms and mouthing the words to various favourites, such as The Eurythmics, The Sounds, and Sir Mix-A-Lot. Then we went home, and I ate chips.
While my friend was right, and the whole night seemed to take quite a toll on my aged twenty-something body, my slight hangover and need for a McDonald's sausage mcmuffin meal the next morning was well worth it. So much so, that we thought it would be a great idea to go again last night! So if you're feeling young and restless, or just want to feel young again, head down to The Met next Thursday and take a drink from the fountain of youth, also known as "the bar".
