THAT SAYS IT ALL REALLY, NOT LONG TO GO !!

WE HAVE THE WURZELS HEADLINING THE MAINSTAGE, WITH AN APPEARANCE BY MERLIN CADOGAN (OF BRITAIN'S GOT TALENT FAME), 6 OTHER MUSICAL ATTRACTIONS, STREET PERFORMERS AND TWO ROUNDS OF THE INFAMOUS BIRDMAN COMPETITION. AND PLENTY OF CIDER...  £6 PER ADULT, £3 KIDS AND CONCESSIONS.

CRIKEY ! What a great event....except for the weather of course !  still the rain held off until about 3.30  -  after that it was that sort of rain that gets you very wet (if you know what I mean ). Team strongman was very well received and a real attraction for the crowd  -  there was a top top bunch of competitors  and we're lead to believe there was a world record on the day !  Birdman had been listed by The Times as second best event to attend in the south west and wales with the North Devon Show only coming in 5th !  these are real indications of how the event is growing in stature. The birdmen that day were very wet before they even hit the water !  we had a great bunch of entries with a few more "wings" than in previous years. So, thanks to everyone that attended, to the bands (who were fantastic), to the strongmen, to everyone that pitched in and helped, to the sponsors, to Tom Jones, the organiser of the Strongmen event, Ray Williams for organising the music stage, to Lantern's Karen thunderpants for her excellent commentary throughout the day. Basically, thanks to anyone who had an involvement in the event  -  you know who you are !    no thanks to the people who stole 2 of our banners advertising the event  -  interestingly, the only 2 banners to disappear were those nearest the Creationfest festival -  not a very christianlike activity was it ?    roll on Birdman 2009.

don't forget your half price tickets through the North Devon Journal. A family of 4 can enjoy the whole day on the Pier for an admission price of just £7.50 !!   we must be mad....

CRIKEY !  IF BIRDMAN TICKETS AREN'T ALREADY A BARGAIN AT £6 FOR ADULTS AND £3 FOR CHILDREN, YOU CAN GET HALF PRICE TICKETS THROUGH THE NORTH DEVON JOURNAL. A FAMILY OF 4 COULD GO TO BIRDMAN FOR THE WHOLE DAY FOR ONLY £7.50  !!!!!!!!!!!    WE MUST BE MAD. OUTLETS FOR TICKETS ARE SITUATED IN BARNSTAPLE, BRAUNTON AND ILFRACOMBE, SO DON'T MISS OUT !!!!

WE HAD A NICE ARTICLE IN THE ndj THIS WEEK. THERE ARE STILL SPACES FOR ENTRANTS IN THE BIRDMAN CONTEST, SO NOW IS THE TIME TO ACT IF YOU WANT TO HAVE SOME FUN AND RAISE SOME DOSH FOR CHARITY OR GOOD CAUSES / LOCAL CLUBS ETC.  WE'RE VERY PLEASED THAT ndj ARE ON BOARD FOR BIRDMAN WITH SOME GENEROUS SPONSORSHIP AND PROMOTION OF THE EVENT.

Now's the time people !  you want to be a hero ?  want to raise money for local good causes and charity ?  want to overcome your fear of jumping from the Pier dressed as a transvestite ?

Well, get your applications in now !!   the warm sea off Ilfracombe Pier awaits, as does the adulation of about 6000 people  - you may never have scored a goal for your favourite footy team, but you can be as popular as Exeter City's best striker by taking part in BIRDMAN 2008 !

Crikey, haven't posted a blog for quite a while. Anyway, last years Birdman raised over £12,000 for charity and local good causes. We're hard at work for this year's event. The music line up is complete -  have a look, it's nearly all local talent this year  -  we've got from Folk to punk to Nerd rock to Chilli peppers tribute  -  something for everyone.

Just a big thank you to everyone who made this year's Birdman possible, from the organisers and members of Ilfracombe Round Table, ex Tablers like Mike Collingham and Martin the "BBQ king", Ray "Music man "Williams, Tom "Strongman" Jones, the bands that played for free, the Strongmen who competed without charge, the BIRDMAN CONTESTANTS who turned up and flung themselves off the pier having raised sponsorship money, harbourmaster Rob Lawson for his support for the event, the sponsors of the event, anyone who advertised, the Companies who provided their services either free of charge or at discounted prices, the Chopper Club, anyone else who I've forgotten. Importantly, a big thankyou to those of you who turned up and paid your money to get on the Pier for a great day's entertainment.

This year, we doubled the amount of money raised from running the event. The amount of money raised by way of Birdman contest sponsorship TRIPLED!   awesome performance !

BIRDMAN 2007 !   BIGGER STRONGER HARDER !

Would love feedback on the event  from you people. We want to make next year's event even better. Happy to receive positive criticism as well  -  we might not agree with you, but at least it gives us an opportunity to explain why !!

You get a chance to preview 3 bands who will be playing Birdman in the 2 days leading up to the event. On Friday 27th July, OCTOBER appears at The Marlboro Club, Ilfracombe  -  check her out  -  she's fantastic!   the following evening, Saturday 28th July, cheeky Northern band GRIM BEAVER will be rocking with local Round Table punksters FALLING APART at Cook Island  Mullacott Cross, Ilfracombe (free admission).
