nothing much fancy to write. I simply have such a brighter outlook on every day.

Tonight, I'm comin' home on the bike. I turn into my driveway and am perpendicular to the sidewalk. I reach over the handlebars with my right arm as I'm holding the clutch with my left and keeping the bike from rolling back with my thighs .. multitasking - no biggie.

This Asian dude in hospital fatigues is walking towards me on the sidewalk. He's got this big friendly smile as he grabs the gate for me and slides it out of the way.

I nod and pull into the driveway.

... and I thought ... "In Irvine or anywhere in Orange, the guy would have been the same, the situation the same but the result would be that he would simply ignore me and walk around me."

What a cool dude. That was so simple and bravely human of him to extend a hand.

I know it really does sound simple and it is.

I'm simply happy to be back in a city where people act human. I don't feel so alone anymore.

on 7/7/7, I'm hitting my second round of twisties. This time in the L.A. mountains.

I'm so stoked. My Canon Rebel should ship soon, I'll be able to take pictures from the highest elevation in L.A.!

I just got an e-mail from their label and I think back to my much much crazier times.

Malevolent Creation is a Southern Death Metal band that I saw live at the Button South (Hollywood and I-95, is that place still open?) back in 1993.

It was also my first club/concert/live show experience outside of my Afro-American-Centric ghetto life. My buddy Mel got a tooth knocked loose. A brawl broke out between some skinheads and these "rockers." I heckled one of the bands in the lineup ... Grip, Inc. Steve Lombardo from Slayer was their drummer and the whole audience just wanted to hear him solo (he was f'kin awesome).

I don't even listen to that stuff anymore. But I still love it 'cause it brings back so many memories of extreme times and eccentric people ... I think of it like a dry riverbed. You remember all the crazy moments riding something far more powerful than your own life force.

Time goes by and you find yourself standing at what used to the the deepest part - now overgrown with shrubs and dusty rocks.

You see impressions in the sand of ghosts long dead and forgotten in this world. They live in the fading memories of a man who just dropped his fists and walked away from the fight against nothing.

It's amazing what we outlive.

... and now I listen to jazz and hippie music.

Long week. Long day - great night.

Can you believe while heading down the 405 on my way home, I get tailgated by some butthead? Whatever.

I bump a little faster to get some safety cushion between me and the death cage behind me. Three seconds later, lights go flickering behind me. It's a deputy.

They give me a ticket for going 78 in a 65.

I fussed at the child in uniform for a few minutes, signed under protest and went on my way.

I'm really getting tired of police attention. I thought it would end once I left Irvine. It looks like Redondo and all the other little city-states around here are just as bad.

I'm fighting this sucker. Most people tell me it's useless. I don't care. I wont take it lying down as the deputy would like. If I am to be judged, I will be judged by a magistrate - not some meter maid with a gun.
