Hi,

Check out the William Burroughs tribute events in NY, in association with the new book "Naked Lunch @ 50 -- The Anniversary Essays."
I will be reading from the book at St. Marks church and performing at the School of Visual Arts. It's a 4 day homage.

I headlined the book launch in Paris last July and am happy to have been asked to participate in NY.

They're using this book as a text in the American Lit. studies program this year at Cambridge University, England.

Folk America – Greenwich Village Revisited
Barbican, London – 22 January 2008

Classic English punk-troubadour Billy Bragg was the host tonight for
this TV special. Collecting some of Greenwich Village's most talented
singer-songwriters, this concert was a celebration of the early 60s
singer-songwriters which put the songwriting craft firmly in centre
stage.

The grey haired audience was mesmerised by the acts present on stage.
Billy Bragg introduced the first act Roger McGuinn of the Byrds. His
voice has lost none of its power and he swept through songs by Dylan,
Odetta, Joan Baez with aplomb, reinterpreting the songs without
loosing any of their original power. A wonderful 'Turn, Turn, Turn'
closed his unfortunately too short set.

Carolyn Hester was next on stage and she reinterpreted Dylan's 'Boots
of Spanish Leather' with a wonderful take on the classic love song.
Another highlight was a beautiful 'House of the Rising Sun' which was
also taken in a new direction thanks to the female voice.

Eric Andersen was introduced by Billy Bragg as the
"Singer-songwriter's songwriter", and after his performance it's easy
to see why. Fred Neil's 'The Other Side of Life' was quite simply
beautiful, there was an electricity in the air as the crowd were
completely absorbed by this performance. A duet with Roger McGuinn
was another highlight as once again the set was closed wit the crowd
wanting more.

Final act of the night, Judy Collins had an unfortunate stage presence
which meant that she spent minutes talking to the crowd, telling
stories which went on for too long. But once she started to sing it
was all forgotten as her powerful voice soared and sent chills down
the spine. Joni Mitchell's 'Both Sides Now' was the obvious
highlight, as was Collin's own 'Colorado'. The night ended with all
performers sharing the stage for a rousing and moving version of
'Amazing Grace'. Shut your eyes and you could have been at a
hootenanny in the early 1960s in Greenwich Village.

It crowned a wonderful show which reminded us of the beauty of
songwriting, and the sheer number of amazing songs that were born in
that time and place. With many of the original Greenwich Village
folkie's now passing on, it's time that those left are celebrated for
their contribution to society and music – this show did just that.

two of Eric late 60s Warner Bros albums available from may 31 on cd for the first time ever (well, they were already available on cd in Japan some years ago...)

Editorial reviews from amazon.com:

ERIC ANDERSEN, WARNER 1969 - Unfairly pegged, again like so many others, as a ’new Dylan’, Eric Andersen struggled to be accepted as a powerful songwriter in his own right. After a five album stint at Vanguard, which included his classic ’Bout Changes & Things, Andersen moved over to Warner Brothers in 1969 and released this self-titled record. Available on CD for the very first time, this album, though mostly ignored in 1969, has subsequently become a sought after collector’s item beloved for its heartfelt songs and classic arrangements.

AVALANCHE, WARNER 1969 - Eric Andersen, like so many other American folk singers, has long been in the shadow of the immortal Robert Zimmerman. After spending some time in San Francisco in the early 60’s Andersen joined the Greenwich Village folk scene in 1964 and cut five records for Vanguard before moving over to Warner Bros. for this 1969 release. Avalanche features some of the heaviest session men of the 60s and 70s, including Chuck Rainey (Roberta Flack, Quincy Jones, The Rascals), Eric Gale (Jimmy Smith, Tom Rush, Herbie Hancock), and Bruce Langhorne (Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, Richie Havens). Featuring eight Andersen originals and a killer cover of Paul Siebel’s Louise. Avalanche is a folk-rock classic that’s finally back in print on CD.
