Current mood: impervious
Well I just got back from a mud-soaked fab time at the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival. Thanks to Jim Henry, Katie Clarke, and Stephanie Marshall, who helped make my Emerging Artist showcase set a total blast. I posted some pics on my Facebook music page here.
Got some shows coming up (details below.) This Saturday I'll be back at P.A.C.E. Theater in Easthampton, MA with 3 other Valley artists. Dinner and refreshments are served in the adjoining cafe throughout the show. What does it say about me that I believe it's the availability of FOOD and DRINK that makes a venue awesome? It's a great listening room too.
Tuesday August 4th, I'll be helping to kick off a new music series in Dayville, CT - The Eighth Notes Songwriter Sessions. Lara Herscovitch and Dan Chauvin are also on the bill.
Then it's my last Greenfield Energy Park gig for the season (sniff) on Thursday Aug 13th. Bring a picnic dinner and come hear the sweet summer harmonies I'll be making with Katie Clarke and Stephanie Marshall.
Finally for you Ourstage aficionados out there - I'm in the Folk Channel semi-finals. Voting continues for another 30 hours or so. If you've ever wondered what it's like to be Simon Cowell, now's your chance... Hazily and lazily yours, Jenny Coming Up

Hello and Happy Summer (sort of for you Northeasterners out there), Alrighty, here's the latest:
I was selected to perform at the FALCON RIDGE/GRASSY HILL EMERGING ARTIST SHOWCASE at the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival on July 24th. Falcon Ridge is a fantastic festival and I'm just giddy about being up on that stage with 23 other amazing emerging artists (not at the same time). Festival headliners include Janis Ian, Kathy Mattea, Cliff Eberhardt, and many more. Details on tickets can be found at http://www.falconridgefolk.com. My unrecorded song "Lookout Ledge" received an honorable mention in the AMERICAN SONGWRITER Lyrics Contest this month. I'll be making a home demo of that tune soon and will let you know when I post it. In addition to a couple local gigs this month, I'll be at the VANILLA BEAN CAFE in Pomfret, CT - guest hosting for Lisa Martin's Songwriter Sessions. I just finished a song for it yesterday based on this month's theme (chosen by last month's audience) "My Younger Years." That wasn't too painful. Heh.

Current mood: breezy
It's honest to goodness Spring in New England and it's my favorite time of year - the peepers are peeping (frogs that is, not toms - i don't keep tabs on them) and the leaves are bursting and we've had a few lazy summer-like evenings out on the deck. On the downside, it's time to mow the lawn. But it's a good trade-off.
I have a couple of shows this month. First up, I'll be back at Mocha Maya's this Saturday with the fabulous Patti DeRosa in Shelburne Falls, MA. Second, on May 30th, I'm very excited to be opening up for guitarist and singer/songwriter Brooks Williams in Columbia, MD. Details for both shows are below.
Finally, a big thanks to all of you who took the time to vote in the March Ourstage.com contest and the Radio Crystal Blue (RCB) 2009 Airplay Vote. "S-Curve Roads" won the Americana/Alt-Country competition at Ourstage.com and went on to take third place in the overall competition. And I am now a Radio Crystal Blue 'Gem' and won featured airplay this summer (July 19th) and highlighted placing on Dan Herman's RCB website. That's it for now. Stay tuned for information on appearances I'll be making this summer as one third of a harmony-loving trio...

MARCH SHOWS I'll be staying close to home in March. First up, on March 14, I'm opening for the amazing string band Northern Lights at the St. James Coffeehouse in Greenfield, MA. Then on March 21, I’ll be taking part in the ....Franklin County musician cooperative "Coop Concerts" winter concert and CD release party. Details for both shows are below. FACEBOOK For those of you on Facebook - I'll be posting some videos now and then. Visit my facebook page and become a fan. Presently there's an excerpt of my appearance on ABC Channel 4's Low Country Live in Charleston, SC. I had a lot of fun, but unfortunately did not bring the necessary hair product for hot and humid Charleston. It was afterall, a chilly November morn when I left New England.
Happy (almost) March! Go Jayhawks!

A few weeks ago I was interviewed by Catherine Michaels on WHUD (100.7 FM Westchester/Hudson Valley, NY) on her show "Night Rhythms". Catherine asked great questions and is big supporter of independent artists and I highly recommend her show on Friday nights (listen online at www.whud.com/listen.) You can download the interview from my Reverbnation page (it's the last "song" in the list of Songs) or from a link on my home page. Or just click "play songs" above and look for it at the bottom of the list. If you need a break from the downward spiral of the economy and general holiday madness (and you live within a reasonable distance of Pomfret, CT), come to the Singer-songwriter Sessions at the Vanilla Bean Cafe this Thursday (details below). I almost forgot. If you need a copy of "Under the Ash Tree", I'm having a holiday sale at CDBaby.com - $12.99 for one and a 20% discount if you buy more than one. Read the most recent review that came out in this month's Acoustic Live! below. -Jenny Goodspeed http://www.reverbnation.com/jennygoodspeed Songwriter Sessions at The Vanilla Bean Cafe Hosted by Lisa Martin. Songwriters perform a newly crafted song based on a theme chosen by last month's audience. With Austin & Elliot, Christopher Payne, and me. This month's themes: "Home for the Holidays" or "Broken Mirror" 450 Deerfield Rd., Pomfret, CT 06258 Acoustic Live Reviews "Once I looked at the credits on the CD liner, I was no longer surprised at the aural excellence surrounding Jenny Goodspeed's perfectly shaped, passionate vocals. Signature Records -- Always quality. There's Jim Henry and Duke Levine on guitars. Beth Amsel on backup vocal, Seth Glier on keyboards. There's a solidity to Goodspeed's lyrical poetry and more than a little bit of Joni Mitchell in her voice as she sings: "And the tide rolls in / Whether or not I see you again / And the salt green gray / Comes right to my doorstep then / follows the moon back to the sea / With or without me." What a pleasure. What a great find." - Richard Cuccaro - Acoustic Live!

Current mood:a wee bit overwhelmed
Under the Ash Tree was released to radio this month and debuted on the Roots Music Report Folk Chart at number 12. Woo-hoo. First time on the charts. First time using the word 'Woo-hoo'.
At my website you'll find a list of stations and DJs that are playing tracks from the record. Without these adventurous souls, independent and new artists would have a very hard time getting heard. Feel free to call or email a DJ to say thanks for keeping the airwaves interesting.
And that's one to grow on.

p.s. - western mass. residents can see a lovely article on me in this morning's Recorder (Greenfield, MA) written by Sheryl Hunter, a superb supporter of independent and local music.

Oh my. Is there anything better than hearing your first spring peepers of the season. If you live in New England and other northern climes, the answer is no.
Coming up this Friday, I'll be the featured performer at The Vanilla Bean Cafe in Pomfret, CT. Bonnie Lee Panda hosts, so grab your geetar and come join me for an evening of making good music and eating good food.
May is the month for songwriting contests. First up, is the finals of the Susquehanna Music & Arts Festival Songwriting Contest. The contest kicks off a weekend full of fantastic performers (Kim and Reggie Harris, Ellis, We're About 9 to name just a few).
Next up is the Rose Garden Coffeehouse Performing Songwriter Competition in Mansfield, MA. The feature act this year is Cheryl Wheeler (!), so get your tickets soon.
Jenny

this tuesday morning we wrecked the starter in our '98 diesel jetta trying to get it started in below zero temperatures. as those of you in the northeast know, that night we had a snow storm and then an ice storm and then hours and hours of freezing rain into wednesday.
we live at the end of a pretty long and very steep driveway and my plow guy who usual shows up at around 6 am came at 1:30 pm in a bobcat and proceeded to mangle the driveway, plowing only the narrowest of paths, and surrounding our one working car in a mountain of snow.
i just couldn't bring myself to going out to shovel because at this point in the afternoon it's pouring down rain. so i left it and by the next morning the mountains of snow were covered in inches of ice and frozen solid. immutable.
with a great deal of effort my better half - whom i'll call "erik" because that's his name - was able to dig out my car and push it out of the mound of snow-ice. by this time i was late for an appointment and still had to drop erik off to pick up the jetta at the shop.
i gunned it up the narrow plowed path knowing if i slowed down at all i'd be stuck. we ricocheted off the sides of the snow-ice banks left by mr. plow guy and just as i made it to the top and we were almost in the free and clear i slammed into what could only be described as a large iceberg (one created by the expert sculpting skills of mr. plow guy and his bobcat).
but i persevered so as not to get stuck and erik said "something flew off the car!" and he quick rolled down the window to see what it was and yelled "keep going! it's only a piece of plastic! keep going!" and so we made it out of the driveway and i was only a few minutes late for my appointment. victory!
but now i have to retrieve the plastic thingy and find someone to put it back on and i maybe knocked my tire out of alignment. maybe.
i want to blame this on mr. plowman. but the truth is i may have driven up the driveway in an irresponsible manner because i love to drive and maneuver in the snow and ice. not on public roads of course, but in the safety of my own driveway or an empty parking. i think maybe a corolla isn't cut out for that kind of thing.
actually, i've decided to blame it all on mercury which is in retrograde and wreaking havoc on vehicles everywhere. it's a dense fiery planet and can shoulder my blame easily. so there it is.

Under the Ash Tree is now available on iTunes and eFolkMusic. You can download individual MP3s or the entire record at either site.
If you download at eFolkMusic, however, you get the artwork and support a really great nonprofit music service.
And because independent music makes a great holiday gift for music lovers, for the month of December there's a 20% discount at CDBaby if you buy more than one copy.
Now back to your regularly scheduled programming. Jenny

a) a new website: which includes a new blog and which I will consider my main blog. the myspace blog has been relegated to the status of "mistress" (i.e. someone i see on the side).
b) new shows: next wednesday singer/songwriter extraordinaire beth amsel and i will kick off our midwest tour. check the dates and come see us!
c) a new record: which arrived on my doorstep two days ago and unfortunately suffers from a mild font-identity disorder. 120 CDs will come on the road with me and the rest go back for therapy. so it'll be another month or so before the new CD is available for sale.
d) all of the above.
if you chose d) all of the above - in the inimitable words of ed mcmahon - you are correct sir!
happy autumn and be cool stay in school. jenny
