it is with a heavy heart that i blog to you that jeremy and jerusha robinson will no longer be playing as members of brown bird. there have been many changes in the direction of all 3 of our personal and professional lives recently. in the process of these changes they have made the decision to put more of their time and effort into creating new music and less time performing. they are currently working on songs for a "south china" album to be recorded later in the year by ron harrity of peapod recordings who recorded and released "the bottom of the sea". they will also be working on several collaborative recording projects with other great musicians, so make sure to keep up with their progress at their page: www.myspace.com/southchinamusic.

later this year there will be a release of an all improvised (with the exception of one song) album that jeremy and jerusha and i recorded over a 2-day period last winter (2007). the name that we'll release it under is yet to be determined but we'll keep you informed as we get closer to it's release date.

jeremy and jerusha will be joining me for 6 more shows.
they are as follows:

friday, april 18th @ the meg perry center, portland, maine
saturday, april 19th - 3pm @ newbury comics, south portland, maine
8pm @ franklin street art space, biddeford, maine
sunday, april 20th - 8pm(?) @ hampshire college, northampton, massachusetts
monday, april 21st - 8pm @ the red door, portsmouth, new hampshire
monday, may 5th - 8pm @ club passim, harvard sq. cambridge, massachusetts

i am truly grateful to have had the opportunity to play music with such great people and musicians as jeremy and jerusha.

love,
dave

hey all you pandora listeners,
we now have songs up on pandora, so you can now hear us and hear people like us. at the risk of sounding narcissistic, i created a brown bird station for myself, and it's been really interesting to see what comes up, including the new mariee sioux, traditional american folk, and early industrial music with theatrically whispered lyrics. it's a joy, in fact.
if you decide to search for us on pandora, however, please do not be thrown by the inaccurate biographical information. that came from the all music guide, and we have been trying to get them to change this information for a while. so for now enjoy a good giggle when reading about the story of david brown and the robinson brothers. what we found the most hilarious was that clearly the writer of this bio did read some information about us, because some of the details are correct, but seems to have missed the bigger picture.
and if you've never been on pandora, please check it out! it's a wonderful place to be if you really do love music. and now they have classical music on there, which is huge. end of plug.
thanks, hope we see you this weekend in providence or in somerville,
bb

we would like to thank these pets:
simone, elliot, josie and benji, micah, lily, kitty, ella, lilau, bella, kitty, voodoo, pancake, and nackity, and the ones we didn't meet.
furthermore, we would like to thank their people, and and the also the people who don't have pets for us to thank.

here are some of our favorite annie-isms:
"use your mullet somehow!"
"suck it, nature."
she has a knack for coming up with great band names:
robot bird rocket (electrodance)
makes roar (mathy indie rock) (actually named after the plastic dinosaur she picked up in tunkhannock, pa)

here is a listing of movies we watched:
dances with wolves
heartworn highways
karate kid II

some of our favorite tour music here:
roger miller's greatest all-time hits
the legendary marvin pontiac
scout niblett's this fool can die now (featuring bonnie "prince" billy)
black ox orkestar's nisht azoy
townes van zandt anthology 1968-1979
willie nelson's crazy: the demo sessions
dirty three's whatever you love, you are

also, we have not seen the sun for two weeks, possibly longer.
ok, i think that's it for entries about this tour.
thanks for reading,

here we are to relate the remaining highlights of our november tour, from the comfort of home. we didn't see much of milwaukee, just the cold attic where we played-with people stomping and clapping along to our music from underneath cozy blankets-our friend's house on the outskirts of the city, and the major construction near the bus stop where we left annie. but with the great time we had there, that was enough.

on to minneapolis, where our round robin hootenany included fantastic old timey songs, lots of singing along, great musicians, food, and a plethora of friendly dogs and cats roaming the premises. all who played were amazing.

then to davenport iowa, where it turned unseasonably warm--we met our hosts, the quiet bears, and played at their friend's birthday party, so live music, food, dancing, great people, yet again. we fell asleep learning more than we ever wanted to know about bob dylan and his questionable integrity, and in the morning we played music with our hosts and even did some recording.

the trip from davenport to lawrence kansas was much hillier than the flat farmland
we saw coming down from minneapolis. it was warm enough to play outside at the gaslight tavern, which was good, because the inside was beautiful and cozy, but not much bigger than a shoebox. there were some pretty warm and friendly folks there, it was one of those towns where we had to announce from the stage that we didn't have a place to stay. it usually works! of course there are only three of us.

we had a day off to explore lawrence, then had dinner with friends, and drove as far as we could before having to crash at a cheap motel outside of st. louis, missouri. our first ever motel stay on tour. it wasn't anything special, we checked in, went to sleep, checked out, and headed to carbondale, illinois.

the story of carbondale wins as the most interesting tour story to tell for this time out--we arrived the house of our hosts, friends of friends, and they fed us an amazing beef stew. we watched hilarious videos of a young william shatner doing a dramatic interpretation of "rocket man" at some awards show in the 80s, and an eddie van halen guitar solo that had been overdubbed to make it sound ridiculously bad. we shared a bill with an awesomely rowdy bluegrass band, the whistle pigs, but the bar was equally rowdy and our quiet ways couldn't compete with the crowd at large, so we offered to do a set in the alley behind the bar after we were off the stage. a sizeable number of folks actually came out to see us. ahh, to play outside in november to a rapt audience, in an alley where people would occasionally wander over to the nearby dumpsters to take a leak. we returned home, continued drinking, and jammed into the wee hours. the next day we recorded some of our new songs in our hosts' basement before heading off to bloomington, indiana.

in bloomington we saw many familiar faces and played at the only video store we know of that has a bar and a screening room attached. we played our set with the cabinet of dr. caligari projected behind us. the next morning we headed out for a long haul to pittsburgh, where we played with the lovely boca chica, and the deadstring brothers. we stayed up late passing around the whiskey and singing and playing together, all the songs we knew/could play wasted.

with hangovers and sour tummies, we did another long haul to connecticut for another day off. the next night we played at hampshire college with our favorite pennsylvanians (except for jeremy's grandma), strand of oaks, and also the black swans from ohio. we also played with vio/mire, and sighed happily along with the beautiful string trio. it was quite a night for bowed instruments and heartstring-tugging. we spent the night in nearby montague and had breakfast at the bookmill before heading south again to new york for our last show.

we truly appreciated the people who paid money to see us play 5 songs in new york. we hope to be allowed to give them their money's worth next time.

with so many new friends and amazing experiences, we can't wait until our next time out. we still have five more shows to look forward to, but we are also excited to start earnest work on our new album.

thanks for reading this abnormally long blog entry and stay in touch,
bb

greetings from chicago, today we will go to milwaukee and our last show with annie, which is very sad. it seems like weeks since we picked her up from the airport in albany.

the red square in albany is a really neat place, practically next door to an extremely densely crowded and bizarre bookstore that had a corner dedicated to lisa lisa.

after the show we drove 3 and a half hours to wilkes-barre pa, where our excellent friend tim awaited us, like he said he would, with brandy for weary travelers. the next day he showed us around the area as we listened to the latest mixes of his yet-to-be released cd, a perfect accompaniment to the gorgeous hills and the last remaining fall colors on the trees. at night we played at the black lodge, which really, it was. like, red curtains and black and white zigzag floor.

we didn't end up stopping in oberlin and went straight to ypsilanti for a day off, which was cold and wet, but made it a great day for hot chocolate, doughnuts, and the karate kid part II. fifi's french press was a very cool little place, with a suit of armor in the corner and showings of buffy the vampire slayer on sundays. annie had a great time posing the spike and angel action figures on the front counter.

last night we played in chicago at a friend's apartment after stuffing ourselves at dave's parents' house. then we stuffed ourselves again at the show. who can pass up hot cider, pumpkin pie, fancy cheese and spicy chocolate? i ask you. it was a great show, we tried playing entirely acoustically, even without dave's voice and guitar being amplified. it worked beautifully. we saw friends we had not seen in years, and at midnight, we all got really clumsy. it was bizarre.

we look forward to the days ahead.
