Look for us on Conan O'Brien on June 28th!

And if you're in Annapolis or near Washington, DC, we'll be playing The Ramshead on June 30th.

Hello Everyone

Apologies if you were planning on attending one of the shows that were previously posted. We've been working hard. Maybe a little too hard before the record even came out. Tension, stress, disagreements and broken bones accumulate- a short vacation was in order.

Remember Conan O'Brien on the 28th of June. We should have things rested and sorted by then.

Hello Everyone

I know some of you are having trouble finding the record. For the first little bit here it may be easier to get the record  from our website (straysdontsleep.com), Amazon.com or iTunes.

As you know we're on an indie, it may take us a little bit to get things moving in a more widespread fashion. Believe it or not, getting records even in stores cost a lot of money! Be patient and help us by sharing it with friends.

Such a nice review of our show at Shepherd's Bush Empire in London. We couldn't keep it to ourselves. Special thanks to all the kind folks we met while in The UK. Particularly Ian for watching my back as we went on a late nite pizza run through the club crawling night of the living dead to alleviate one too many Jameson!

And Marc for his excellent driving skills. Paul for his excellent road managing skills. Jonathan for his excellent front of house skills. Brian for his excellent playing guitar with a broken arm skills (yes, Brian broke his arm in Oxford).

Oh yeah,  here's the review -

Strays Don't Sleep

This not-quite-from Nashville bill featured two of the most engaging alternative acts to have emerged from the citys musical hinterlands. Strays Dont Sleep were the new kids on the block, although the groups widely respected principals, Matthew Ryan and Neilson Hubbard, have between them released at least eight albums as solo artists. While their self-titled debut album is a work of fragile, studio-bound electronica, the five-man groups live set had a more robust, rock-band feel to it, especially when the guitarist Brian Bequette rolled out clusters of high, ringing notes during the majestic climax to Cars and History.
Hubbard, who was tucked up behind a keyboard, sang the alt.lounge ballad Love Dont Owe You Anything in a delicate, breathy tone, while Ryan strummed distractedly at an acoustic guitar. Then Ryan took over for the darker rumble of Martin Luther Ave., his gruff, careworn voice inhabiting a lyric full of poetic observation and bittersweet emotions. The whole band gelled to perfection on For Blue Skies, a long, cyclical song of sublime beauty that began as a murmur and ended with Ryan clinging on to the last shred of lyric (I forgive you) for dear life, while the melody rose like floodwater around him.

greeting from the UK. thanks to everyone who has made it to a show. The reception has been amazing. We have another week worth of shows here and then back to the US for a June tour around the June 13th release of the record. thanks also to everyone who has posted songs on their myspace pages, written blogs, and told a friend about us. it does not go unnoticed and means the world to us.

about the internal strife...

last night i purchased my favorite sandwich on the way to the london show and put it in the dressing room for after the show. when i went to retrieve my precious sandwich, it was gone!!!! I conducted an internal investigation and all parties with access to the dressing room denied eating my sandwich. This morning, with the haze of alcohol gone, one of the members of strays don't sleep, who will remain nameless, admitted tearfully to eating my sandwich. steve said he just couldn't help himself.

I'd love to tell you more about it, but i've got to go. We are meeting in a minute to put steve on trial for sandwich stealing. Mark (our driver) will be serving as judge since he is impartial. If anyone has any sentencing recommendations, should Steve be found guilty, please let us know. This is a tough time and we could really use some help.

hope everyone out there is well and not stealing other people's sandwiches.

Hello Everyone

AHHHHHHHHHHH!  The much earned and glorious day off. Last night DC. Today Newark, DE. Tomorrow Philly. We're having a blast on this run. Josh and his fellas have been very friendly. And the audiences - even friendlier.

I just wanted to let everyone know that many of these shows are 18 & Over. If you plan on coming to a show, check with the venue before hand.

Ok,  I'm gonna go back to sipping coffee and looking for a small space to call my own.

Seems the folks at our label want to help spread the word about Strays on myspace. It also seems a few people recieved requests that were already friends. Hmmmm.

I guess I wanted to apologize to any that were maybe a little annoyed by the apparent accidental blind reach by some of the messages. We don't wanna be one of those bands that spam everyone all the time. We just can't sit here all day seeking out new listeners. So, understand they're just trying to spread the word.

As many of you know, we try to keep in touch with your messages and such. We'll keep our page as "real" as possible.

There's some good news up ahead. We'll keep you updated as everthing gets firmed up.

Strays Don't Sleep in stores June 13th in the US and Canada. May 1st will be the official release in the UK

Oh and.......

We're considering putting one of the songs up for download here on Myspace. Of the four currently posted... Any suggestions?

Some of you may have noticed we've posted a new recording called Stay. It's a cover. That song was written by Paul Buchanan of the Scottish band, The Blue Nile. One of our personal faves. Covers are a way to honor influences without stealing from them. We recorded Stay as a B side. It will appear on a limited release ep that will be available at shows. We also recorded a version of Love Vigilantes by New Order. One of my favorite songs from my bedsitter days- headphones, Cure posters, dyed black hair, Leonard Cohen LPs and the world starting to look quite beautiful and dark.

The Ep contains 4 tracks

1. Love Don't Owe You Anything

2. For Blue Skies (the cliffnotes version)

3. Stay

4. Love Vigilantes

Come to a show and pick one up!

See you soon
