Anyone seen POULTRYGEIST?

POULTRYGEIST, like many Troma movies, is disgusting, weird, and above all, GREAT! If you're not familiar with it, buy it here and thank me later:
http://www.troma.com/
For those unfamiliar with TROMA or TROMADANCE...
Troma is a film production company started by Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz way back in 1974. In the last 34 years, TROMA has produced some of my favorite films...CLASS OF NUKE EM HIGH, THE TOXIC AVENGER, TROMEO & JULIET, TERROR FIRMER, and most recently POULTRYGEIST.
Trey Parker and Matt Stone (creators of South Park) started out with Uncle Lloyd. James Gunn (director of Slither) started out with Uncle Lloyd. Several HUGE celebrities will not admit it, but they also started with...you guessed it; Uncle Lloyd.
My point is that I am a HUGE TROMA fan, and we are honored to screen at their festival "TROMADANCE". For what it's worth, I wish Laura and I had the scratch to attend. Tromadance is sort of like the anti-Sundance...taking place in the same city at the same time, only with complete anarchy and insanity. Tromadance does NOT charge for submissions or admission. It is the only real independent fest that I know of. I can only imagine what kind of depravity and madness will be going down in Park City in a few weeks.
Anyways, we'll be there in spirit, and for more details or if you plan on attending, check out:
http://www.tromadance.com/

Love,
Bernard

REDEAL, a feature length screenplay written by Bernard Gumz & Laura Android (writers/director of HEADCHEESE) has been chosen as a finalist for the screenplay competition in the New York City Horror Fest.
REDEAL is a throwback to 80's films like Adventures in Babysitting and License to Drive, except with a drug dealing wannabe cartoonist whose best friend gets kidnapped by a monster. Guts, kung fu and weed also make an appearance in this bizarro tale of terror.
Check out www.nychorrorfest.com for details. More on HEADCHEESE, Eerie Horror Fest and other oddities soon.

hi kids! bernard gumz here. the subject line about "99 problems" was a lie, but it sounded cool. the part about "Butch is one" is truth though. i am happy to report that HEADCHEESE is 98% complete...we think. the only problem left before preparing a "work in progress" screening is an audio issue with one character that we are trying to solve with a couple of different tricks we have up our sleeve. last night was the first time i really felt like this thing was coming together...mutating into something special. laura has really busted her ass getting this thing into shape, and even her car was sacrificed in the making of this monster. last week, on the way back from sound mixing, at about 12:20 am she totalled her 2001 ford mustang...luckily no one was hurt. the next day she was back in the lab working on the sound. her level of dedication and commitment is seriously mind-blowing. she has a meeting with one of her close mentors next week to see what he thinks of the final product, and hopefully that will go well. also, my partner in all of my illustration ventures, mr. onefortynine, has been busting ass in a race to finish the HEADCHEESE website...and he is doing a phenomenal job. so it's just about time to cut the umbilical cord on our bastard child and see if he is accepted into any film festivals. wish him luck! ...and check out a piece of conceptual art from the film below, along with a headshot of the director, Laura Android... bernard gumz co-writer and storyboard artist for HEADCHEESE

hi kids... bernard here. i am the co-writer and storyboard artist for headcheese, and lately i've been pulling quadruple duty as the website designer, post-production slave, sound advisor and spiritual consultant for this fucking beast. and i've gotta say...this thing has nearly killed us. i can't say that it's really justified, as it's taken us WAY too long to finish this film...but i am happy to report that the finish line is somewhere on the horizon. we finally have a finished trailer, the sound is almost done, and the website is pretty close. we're going to wait for the site to open to upload the trailer, but we'll also have it up here in case you don't feel like wandering around on the main site. we're both excited to say goodbye to working on this project, and not just for the sake of entering festivals and promoting it. i've been neglecting my urge to illustrate in favor of working on this thing for what seems like years, and i have a comic book idea that is begging to seep out of my skull and make it's way onto paper. finishing this thing up will also help laura and i work on a couple of other scripts and bizarre projects we have brewing, so i think we want this thing done and out there more than anyone at this point. more soon, but for now here are a couple of storyboard pages from HEADCHEESE for your viewing pleasure. bernard gumz .. ..

hi kids... so the question is: "who is john gholson?" and the answer isn't a simple one. from the rumors that he robbed a bank at the age of fourteen to purchase a metroplex action figure (see pic below), to the multiple eye witness accounts that he single handedly saved seventeen orphans from a building during the great new york fire of '88, john gholson is a complicated man. .. there is one certainty about the mystery of john gholson, and it is that he loves film. all aspects of it. john enjoys writing, critiquing and discussing all things movie-related, and he even does various acting gigs...which helped us out a ton. we dragged john out of his batcave to play a key acting role in HEADCHEESE, and we couldn't have done it without him. we abused him menatally, and even more physically, and he pulled it all off with grace...knowing full and well that his face will never be seen in the film. he wasn't cut out of the movie...he just plays a special part. did he really rescue orphans from a fire? i honestly don't know. but what i do know is that john is such a humanitarian that he risked a serious beat-down by stealing his roommate's wii and bringing it over to our house on thanksgiving. laura and i don't have any family here in the dirty south, so it was much appreciated. laura and john (thanksgiving '06) (laura always wins at video games) that was nearly a year ago, and we don't get to see john as much as we'd like to these days. he is a true fan of cinema and a cool person to hang out with if you get the chance. and if you ever need an advisor/writer/actor etc, drop him a line. you can check out john's movie reviews at: FILMCANS (click here)thanks! -bernard gumz co-writer and storyboard artist for HEADCHEESE

Current mood: bouncy
good morning kids! it's 3:29 am, and i just came off of a dvd double feature. i bought the 2-pack of Robert Rodriguez's "Planet Terror", which came with "Wolf Creek" as a bonus dvd. .. Planet Terror was even more fun on dvd, and the additional footage added to the film was barely noticeable and flowed nicely. If any of you missed it in the theater, you're in for a treat with the dvd, which came out in stores yesterday. the only problem i really had with Planet Terror wasn't in the film. it was Rodriguez mentioning on his "10 minute film school" that there will be another grindhouse dvd out with even more bonus features and behind the scenes stuff. grindhouse lost a ton of money at the box office, so i guess i can't really blame them, and i care far more about watching the film than watching the extras...but it is kind of like the equivalent of saying, "gotcha sucka, you shouldn't have bought this version!" for Laura, it was her first time watching it, because she locked herself in the editing room chopping up her movie during the theater run. she seemed to love it, which isn't a huge surprise because Rodriguez is a hero of hers...but she did wonder how Cherry fires the trigger on her high powered rifle of a leg. this was my third time seeing it, and i never even thought about that little bit of logic...Planet Terror is way too fun for logic, as movies should be. i won't go into plot details or anything...there are plenty of websites out there for that. .. up next was Wolf Creek, which i would not recommend. i think it was like 50 minutes in before any sign of horror showed up, and it seemed to be a one trick pony of just picking people off...and that may work for certain films, but i didn't think it worked very well here. very slow and very drawn out to an anticlimatic ending, but there was a bright spot in John Jarratt; who played the villain of the film "Mick". he was amazing, but for me it didn't save the picture overall. sorry to nerd out on dvd watching, but i figured i'd throw in my two cents. back to our little movie... Headcheese is still being tweaked every day. Laura has been meeting with her composer and they're ironing out the final touches on the score. then she moves into the mixing phase with her sound design team. Laura and i have also been speed-reading faster than Johnny 5 on crystal meth. mostly we've been doing research on festivals and distribution, and there is a lot to learn. whether you are making a feature or a short, there is a tricky and specific process to entering your work into festivals. it's not as simple as one would think...there are politics involved, and there is a very thorough and helpful guide right here on myspace at: http://forums.myspace.com/t/3499974.aspx?fuseaction=forums.viewthread i would also recommend checking out "The Ultimate Film Festival Survival Guide" by Chris Gore. there are many missteps that young filmmakers make in trying to screen and distribute their films, so before you hurry your film off to premier at the first festival that accepts you, at least take a look at what others who have been through the process have to say. there are several other books out there, and if anyone knows of other good material, please let us know. here is a link to Chris Gore's book: http://www.amazon.com/Ultimate-Film-Festival-Survival-Guide/dp/1580650570 more soon...for now here's another photo behind the scenes of HEADCHEESE... .. our lead actor Chris Heady gets into character seeya soon! Hi kids! Bernard Gumz, co-writer and storyboard artist of HEADCHEESE here with our first ever blog posting. I know it's exciting, but please try to contain yourself. I will be posting here periodically with updates on the film and other nonsense, and we will have a newsletter sign up thing soon so that we can send updates directly to your e-mail. The road to making this little bastard of a movie has been full of twists and turns and dangerous bodily fluids, and we've learned a lot of things in the process. So I guess this blog, along with the meatswap (headcheesefilm.com/meatswap) is where these stories of treachery and horror will eventually surface...and that is also where we encourage any filmmakers or people who are curious about the project and have questions to drop us a line. That was the longest sentence ever. Blogging is dumb.
The HEADCHEESE E-mail newsletter signup will be up soon...for now, check out these 'behind the scenes photos' by photographer Bob Jones... .. Director of Photography Chris Todd prays that the old bones of the butcher shop can support the weight of a massive keno light. .. this is our propmaster Nate...making props! .. Director Laura Android is wondering how much longer it will be before the owners of our location throw us out for beating up their store to make our movie. that is me in the background with the badass garbage pail kids on my clipboard. John Pound rules. more soon... GUMZ?
