The Bothy won't be closing for a Summer break this year.  We'll be holding FREE Singarounds (not even a raffle!!!!) each Sunday, until the usual Guest Nights/Singers Nights recommence on 7 September.

We tried this for the first time last year, and it was deemed a success, so we're doing it again!

A new track has been added to MySpace: the traditional song 'The Seeds of Love', which was recorded specially to provide music for an artwork (by sculptor Lisa Cheung) which is being displayed at this year's Southport Flower Show.

The track is performed by:

Kevin Littlewood (vocal & guitar)
Siobhan Nelson (vocal)
Chris Nelson (fiddle)
Trudie Smith (accordion)
Les Brown (melodeon)

Also now back on the Bothy's MySpace page is 'Bonny Kate' by Chris & Siobhan Nelson (taken from the Residents' Lounge CD)

Bothy Residents Chris & Siobhan Nelson were featured (along with their sometime musical collaborator Barry Wake) on Stan Ambrose's Radio Merseyside programme Folkscene yesterday (Thursday 9 August).  The programme is currently available on Listen Again at http://www.bbc.co.uk/liverpool/content/articles/2006/04/18/radiomerseyside_pres_folkscene_feature.shtml

The programme includes an interview and plenty of tracks from Chris & Siobhan's latest album 'Day Has Dawned'.

This year The Bothy is breaking with its tradition of having a complete break during the Summer.  We've decided to try having Informal Singarounds on Sundays throughout July and August - we'll see how it goes!  One or more of the Bothy Residents will be on hand every Sunday night.

Do come along if you're in the area.

Current mood:  happy
The Bothy Folk Club was the subject of Stan Ambrose's 'Folk Scene' programme on Radio Merseyside last night, (31 May). The programme is repeated next Tuesday. It can also be listened to this week on the Radio Merseyside website - www.bbc.co.uk/liverpool (follow the 'listen again' links for 'Folk Scene').

The whole programme was devoted to the Bothy - which was great... thanks, Stan! Some of the resident singers (Kevin Littlewood, Nev Grundy, Pete Rimmer and Chris Nelson) talked about the Club, and Stan also played all the tracks from the new Bothy CD, Residents' Lounge.

Bye for now

I'm going to be rotating the sound clips to give everyone a turn in the spotlight!

The current clips are:

1) On Morecambe Bay, written and performed by Kevin Littlewood (with Bev Sanders on backing vocals and Chris Nelson on fiddle) - Kevin's wonderful song about the tragic events that occurred in February 2004 on the cockle beds of Morecambe Bay. The track was played, to great acclaim, on Radio Merseyside recently; it has also been the subject of a couple of Mudcat Threads.  People certainly seem to like it...

2) Black Jack David, performed by Bev Sanders (written by Mike Heron).

3) Crazy Mama, performed by Bill Hackney (written by J.J. Cale)

4) The Barnyards of Delgaty, performed by Clive Pownceby with The Residents (trad.) - the club's opening song since 1965!

Hope you enjoy the clips, and that you'll want to hear the whole of each track...  the CD is now available, for the princely sum of £5, at the club on Sunday nights or from Clive Pownceby - you can contact him on 0151 924 5078 or by e-mail via the main Bothy website: www.bothyfolkclub.co.uk

Best wishes
