August 11, 2009 - Tuesday

Apart from keeping you up to date with all the latest Tarantino news, we at the QT Archives have always insisted on promoting new talent from our very own QT clan. There is nothing that gives us greater satisfaction than a QT hardcore fan who decides to embark on his very own project. Jared Davis, a friend and fan of our site, has done just that. His short movie, Residue, is currently doing the rounds at various film festivals, receiving rave reviews throughout.

The movie deals with the CIA involvement in Cambodia during the Vietnam war, and the consequences it brought along with it on the lives of two people directly affected by what happened. Saying anything else would be a dis-service to the film, as it features quite a few unexpected surprises.

Something which is pretty evident throughout the movie is the palpable Tarantino influence, particularly when compared to Reservoir Dogs. One of the characters wears the trademark Tarantino suit and starts his monologue by talking about a song playing on the radio - reminiscent of Tarantino's love for pop culture. Contrary to other films emulating the Tarantino style however, the dialogue does not feel in any way forced. It flows smoothly throughout, and serves as a great introduction for the eventual unfolding of events.

What makes Residue a great short movie is quite simple - it stands on its own merits. Even though there is an apparent Tarantino inspiration, the filmmakers involved still managed to create something truly unique and original involving a historic event which many people might not be aware of. The film is living proof that you can achieve much even with a microscopic budget. May it receive all the praise it deserves.

July 24, 2009 - Friday
We will be meeting with Quentin Tarantino next week at the Berlin premiere of Inglourious Basterds. Our main man Sebastian shall be carrying out interviews to Til Schweiger, Diane Kruger, Christoph Waltz, Daniel Bruhl, August Diehl and the man himself.

Feel free to suggest any questions YOU might be interested in asking. We will then pick up the best ones and use them for the interviews. They have to be "Basterds" related, of course. :-)

Thank you in advance for your contribution.
