The City of Los Angeles has finally released the Draft Bike Plan almost two years after the process was set in motion and has established a 42 day window for public comments.

The Bike Writers Collective is going to make some comments! We want your help!

Join us as we review the Draft Bike Plan, break into workshop groups, assemble talking points and prepare to actively engage the City of Los Angeles in the process of creating a powerful and visionary Bike Plan with real teeth that will actually give the cyclists of Los Angeles a tool for supporting the rights of cyclists on the streets of Los Angeles.

Pdf's of the draft plan here:

http://www.labikeplan.com

Talking points:

1) Include the Cyclists' Bill of Rights, as written, in the Bike Plan.

2) Open the vision with "Consider all streets in Los Angeles as streets that cyclists will ride."

3) Extend the comment period from 42 days to at least 90 days. (until Friday, Jan 8, 2010)

4) Replace soft words (should, may, might) with words of imperative (shall, must, will) and give the Bike Plan real teeth so that it serves to direct the many City of LA Departments that have a piece of the streets.

5) Provide real comparative analysis of the old plan vs. the new plan and actually show an improvement over the old plan.

6) Conduct an EIR in order to galvanize the Bike Plan so that it is actually implement-ready rather than shelf-ready.

7) Leave your feedback here, bring your laptop and your notes and join us on Saturday as we work to make LA's Bike Plan the best and the most effective plan possible.

Date: Saturday, October 17, 2009
Time: 1:00pm - 4:00pm 2:00pm - 5:00pm
Location: Los Angeles City College - Faculty Lounge Hollywood Adventist Church
Street: 855 N. Vermont Avenue 1711 N. Van Ness Ave.

Sparked by the now infamous Hummer incident, cyclists from all over the city will be swarming City Council on Friday, to make their dissatisfaction with LAPD known.

Friday, May 1st, at 10am at Van Nuys City Hall we will submit public comments regarding the anti-cyclist bias of LAPD.

Arrive at or before 9:40am to have time to get through security.

If you live outside the Valley, you can meet us at the Red Line station at Santa Monica Bl & Vermont Ave, and we’ll all take the train over to the Valley, and ride from there.

Check out the event listing on Facebook (sorry, myspace doesn't let us link to the facebook event. The event on facebook is called "Storm the Bastille!" and is hosted by Midnight Ridazz.)

It's the opening of the "Yay for Motorists! Nay for Cyclists!" Griffith Park Light Festival.

The DWP, in an effort to help the City of LA become "America's Greenest City," has banned cyclists from the auto-centric, environmental nightmare known as the Griffith Park Light Festival.

This year approximately half million people will arrive at Griffith Park, the largest urban wilderness park in the country, while they will sit in idling automobiles for 90 minutes while they wait for their opportunity to drive through the one-mile long Festival of Lights.

Join us as we once again adorn ourselves in the appropriate holiday decorations and ride through the gridlock, sharing holiday goodwill and cheer with all those trapped in their fossil fuel burning, infernal combustion machines of horror.

Bring a thermos, a flask, a friend or two and some bail money. After all, cyclists are forbidden from riding in the Griffith Park Light Festival! Holidays are for motorists!
