last two shows of the tour were the best i think, though there were no stinkers as far as we were concerned...wilco band & crew were all great to us & the crowds were too... Athens -- Classic Center this place was classic alright, a classic cee-ment airplane hanger! still, sound was surprisingly controlled and there were no seats so the crowd was standing. and drinking. we rocked it up a bit. this could be right: hey salty through w/ people autumn got dark a cunning latch truckstop cassettes naked pilseners white wave noisy night san andreas i wanna know girls Jax, FL -- the Florida Theater ornate place, awesome room. we got a 2-man standing ovation after Noisy Night, that was funny...nice folks, good way to go out: tonight i'll be staying here with you truckstop cassettes through w/ people angels of sleep you know where to find me naked pilseners white wave noisy night san andreas i wanna know girls

Happy New Year everyone, let's hope for some good news in '06. New Film Score Nearly Complete! i've been writing and recording the score to a movie called Who Loves The Sun -- it's nearly done and an album with this music will be released under the Portastatic name sometime this Spring on Merge. the movie was directed by Matt Bissonette, half of the team that made Looking for Leonard a few years back, and stars Molly Parker (Deadwood), Lukas Haas (Last Days), and Adam Scott (The Aviator). the movie is a dramatic comedy and i suppose the music kind of is too! more strings, flute, piano and lots more oboe than on the Looking for Leonard Score, and recorded at Pox Studio in Durham (where we did the Autumn Was a Lark EP) i think it sounds a lot better in general than my first stab at a score. more news on that as i have it... Derek Bailey RIP one of the strangest, most confounding, most beautiful guitarists you'll ever hear died on Christmas. he created his own world, and pioneered improvised music, listen to his records and enjoy what he made.

what is it with the south and clubs that appear to have been completely destroyed the night before? we walked into WC Don's in Jackson around 5:30 on saturday and nearly walked right back out and hit the highway to NC...
but we also know the show must go on and all that, so we shored ourselves up, took pictures to document the fact that the club looks like a trashed frathouse where the frat boys in residence decided to turn it into a brothel but first find even more sodden furniture than they already had, and went to another bar to start drinking....
anyway we came back around 9:30 for "soundcheck" and were told that the soundman had gone home "to get the OTHER microphone" -- that's right kids, they have TWO at this joint! high class. anyway, the opening band color revolt were great guys, we hung with them for awhile, rocked out to a dancing Beetlejuice guy who knew the words, checked out some color revolt and hit the hay. wilbur drove the whole way home the next day, and that's a "shit ton" of miles as they say in jackson.
songs, i know we started with noisy night and ended with i wanna know girls, but can't find the list of what happened in between, though we definitely played smothered in hugs.
