Current mood:  nostalgic
Category: Music
Sifting through my CD collection (yes, I still use CDs), I fumbled across some gems.

I've uploaded some OLD garage recordings of songs that were never recorded by Grounded. The vox are missing because these tracks were used for singing practice and/or the lyrics were not written yet.

Since Grounded will most likely never record another album, I feel that the fans deserve something "new" as kind of a farewell gift.

I might find and post some other stuff, but don't take any of it seriously... it is more for nostalgia than anything else.

Peace,
Mike

I don't know who's going to log on and actually read this... it's
really something i wanted to say to all of you anyhow so that doesn't
matter.
You all really cut Mike a raw deal. You didn't give him the chance he
deserved after all of these years of commitment and devotion. It's
unbelievable the people he considered to be his BEST friends would have
done it like this... Why didn't you guys sit down and talk to him
first? Why wouldn't you give him that much after all of this time?
Don't any of you have one ounce of respect for Mike? Enough respect
that you would've talked to him first before ripping away something so
precious to him? This isn't as simple as "making a business-wise"
decision Ian, this was your fucking friend. Did that make it easier to
try to paint it that way? That this is some business decision, free of
any personal or emotional weight? What a crock of bull shit.

Have you forgotten about the countless shows Mike helped to
book for you guys, the countless phone calls he used to make to set up
the unforgettable tours you all took? HE DESERVED BETTER THAN THIS...
and it's obvious to me you guys know that otherwise you would've had to
balls to let Mike know what was up before he had to ask... and in some
E-mail no less! WOW!
I've heard a handful of times Mike talk about what you guys all mean to
him, what the band has been for him. His own parents move on to start
new families and leave Mike in limbo not really belonging anywhere...
feeling out of place and like he doesn't have a family. He's ALWAYS
said YOU GUYS were his family. How could you be so cold-hearted as to
pass something like this off as a "BUSINESS" decision?! I know Mike,
and I know he's hurt very deeply NOT by being kicked out of the band,
but by his BEST FRIENDS total lack of respect and caring for him.
This was totally unnecessary, you know you should have simply let Mike
know you all wanted him to be a little more committed and given him the
chance to improve on that before taking these steps.

You didn't talk to him, to him this is coming out of left field.

Mike deserved better than this from people he's given so much
to over the years. You've all put in so much to this for so long, just
try to imagine what you've done to Mike by not even giving him a chance
to step up! I wish you could know how unbelievably heartbreaking it is
to see you guys do this kind of thing to him. Any true friends wouldn't
have bull shitted around and played games... "Uh... yeah Mike there's
no practice this weekend"... then the next weekend sending a text
message 3 in the morning before practice "Uh.. yeah Mike don't worry
about coming to practice someone else is going to Jam with us today..."
What the fuck is that?

No matter what Mike did to rub anyone the wrong way, no matter
what he's done that irritated any of you or maybe that you didn't agree
with, no matter any of your differences even YOU OWED HIM MORE RESPECT
THAN THIS!

You guys fucked over someone who genuinely cared about you and
who cared about the band. I'm thoroughly disappointed in all of you.

Hey,

We haven't written anything lately, so I decided to share with you all.  We have a new addition to the lineup..... Gerald.  He plays one mean guitar and has added a fresh, new dynamic to the band.  This addition has compensated for Ian's interest in playing keyboard on some songs, while adding a third guitar on others.  Gerald started rehearsing with the band at the end of March and has already played a show.  If you weren't at the Whiskey A Go Go on May 23rd, you missed an exciting one!

Two new songs were heard, preceding many more to come.  We are currently focusing on writing new songs and eventually recording another album.  As Ian and I begin our Master's degrees this fall, Mike and Nick continue their bachelor degree endeavours, and all proceed to create imaginative music, the upcoming album will be lyrically and musically nothing short of our most profound work to date.

So, continue to stay interested as you spread the word.  We haven't gone away, and who knows, maybe you'll see an upcoming show added to the list....

Hey everyone, we're hitting the road again!  We're very excited to see old friends and make new ones along the way.  This weekend will take us to the Arizona/California border, and we'll be leaving for 8 straight weeks beginning April 12th or 13th.  Wish us luck.  As you can see from the calendar, we'll be starting out in Las Cruces and making our way to Nor Cal, via, Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Flagstaff and Las Vegas.  After a week in Nor Cal, we will head up through Oregon, Washington and eventually land in Vancouver, Canada.  Yep, Canada!  This leg of the tour will take about 4 weeks, and after we will head back home to Riverside playing more shows along the way.  Check the calendar for a So Cal show to end the tour in early June.

During our Spring Tour, some friends wil be joining us to play shows along the way.  Check the calendar for the specific dates, and check out these great band's pages:

When summer rolls around, you will find Grounded playing local shows, heading out on a few weekend tours, and writing new material.  We haven't had much time in the past 10 months to work on new ideas, since we've been touring and working a lot, but we're excited to have that time this summer.

We are on the final leg of our 8 week tour.  It is really wierd to think about everything we have done since we left.  Two months can be a very long time if you are living in a van with three other guys. We have all gone a little crazy. We haven't resorted to cannibalism, however...well, atleast not yet.

We did a radio interview over the phone with Alaska.  We did an in studio radio interview at Cal State Sacramento last week also.

In Las Vegas we bet all of our gas money on red and won.  Then we bet again on black and lost.

I had to go to the hospital for strepp throat in Livermore.  That was unpleaseant, but the show at UNITY skate shop was great.  We also got to see the premier of A REASON TO LIVE, the Unity shop's docu-skate video.  You should really pick one up...it is great.  Two live video's of GROUNDED as well as some other really good bands that have come through UNITY.

Partied with the Czech Republic again.  Too much fun.

Got rained on in Sacto but had some really special people feed us.

Got rained on in Manteeeeeeca also.  Food provided by Nick and Sheri.  Thanks so much!

hmmmm....

No, we didn't pick up any hitch-hikers.  Ok, just one.  It was raining and he was going the way we were.  Interesting stretch.

St. Helena is the same.  Vineyards, sky, mountains, trees, Amanda's birthday party.  All good things.

I have forgetten so much, but hopefully we can put some pictures up when we get home.

Talk to ya soon!

::Exhale::

The past four days were very tough, but the outcome was amazing.  We played 9 performances in four days.  Wed-Fri we played at three different high school in New Mexico, two sets on Thurs.  These high school shows have been turning out great.  It is free for everyone and especially fun for us because we always have a big crowd. We try to advertise our all ages shows at the schools.  We are expecting Wednesday's show at Sol Arts to sell out.

Wednesday night was kinda lame.  The booker dropped the ball and didn't book any other bands to play with us.  There were a handful of people and we made the best out of it, but it could have been better, much better.

Thursday night was awesome!  The local hip magazine in Santa Fe advertised our show.  A few groups of people actually came out to see the SoCal touring band even though it was our first time to the area.  The crowd was really having a good time.  A group of students from the American Indian Art Institute invited us over to their party after the show.

Friday night was rad as well.  We were so stoked that some of the students from the school we played earlier that day came out to see us again. The P.A. system at the club was giving us technical difficulties through a couple songs, but the crowd was forgiving to say the least. We had a great time rock'n the Warehouse 21 in Santa Fe.  After the show we went back to the home of our artist friends where they were having an even bigger party.  They invited us to perform, and if you know us then you know we never turn down a show.  We even did some jamming with a local rapper named GODSENT.  A great ending to our busy day.

Last night's show at The District in Abq. was cancelled.  The promoter was fired and Goth Night was setup to take our place.  No one informed us.  Fortunately, we were able to sweet talk our way onto the stage of the Tiki Lounge, probably the coolest rock club/bar in town.  We opened up for some great bands and were able to sell a good share of merch to make up for gas expenses.  THANK YOU TIKI LOUNGE!

We have three days of rest now, and we are loving it.  We are still working on all the behind the scenes business crap everyday however...we never really get a break.  But this is what we live for.

Talk to you when we get to Flagstaff.  It's gonna be cold.

From the first floor library of New Mexico State University.

A lot has happened the past week, I will attempt to re-cap.

El Paso, TX.  We had to drive all night from Tucson to El Paso so we would be at the University of Texas El Paso (UTEP) by lunch. Woke up, played our set, snuck into the school showers, should have slept but didn't. Some old friends from our high school days surprised us at the show. We werent expecting to see any familiar faces for a while, so that was pleasant. We spent the evening with them and kinda caught up.

We had another show at a bar in eastside El Paso which also went well.  During our day off we walked up to the local radio station and gave the DJ a copy of our CD.  He was nice enough to announce our show over the air minutes later.  Thank you 95.5fm!

El Paso is at the southern foot of the Rockies. A beautiful mountain view.  Just across the freeway you can see Juarez, Mexico.  It was pretty amazing to see the difference in living standards first hand.  Paved roads turn into dirt streets.  A set of mansions nestled into the side of El Paso's southern range seemed to viciously taunt the unprivileged dwellers below.

Las Cruces, NM.  A bit colder here. Been sleeping in the van quite a bit now. We played an all ages show at this little place called the Bean.  We were surprised at how many people came out to see the show even though we were the only band.  I guess our advertising has paid off.  Made a lot of new friends.  A girl named Adriana invited us over for lunch the next day.  Her dad made us some authentic Mexican soup, I have shamefully forgotten the name of it however. It was the perfect remedy for my sore throat which, by the way, is still killing me.  Another guy named Will Smith (i know, i know) hooked us up with an opportunity to perform at his high school this afternoon.  We owe a big thank you to him.  It went great!  Can't wait until we come back thru Las Cruces, it is going to go off!

We have 7 shows in the next 4 days...wish us luck!

Current mood:  accomplished

A couple weeks ago we sent our CD to around 300 college and independent radio stations across the USA.  The goal in these sort of campaigns is to break into the top 200 so you get regonition from the CMJ report which is published periodically.

Last week we were at 187 and this week we moved up to 151.  That number reflects number of play in rotation across the nation, including all bands of all genres. So far we have a total of 163 stations that have the album in rotation.

Not too shabby.

We'll be published in the CMJ music charts shortly.  Hopefully we keep getting spins!

We are all really excited for this recent success.

Tucson is nice this time of year.  This is our second time back.  We played at Mt. View High School on Friday to promote our show that evening at Gameworks Studio.  Both turned out great.  We owe a great deal of thanks to our streetteam members who helped us advertise the show.  You all rock.  We also added a bunch of new members so next time around should be even greater.  Also played a High school this afternoon.  Meet more cool folks.  Another High School tomorrow as well as an all ages show at Skrappy's.  Should be cool.

This awesome family known as the Parkers has taken us under their wing while in Tucson.  Great cooking, comfortable couches, good times.

We'll keep ya updated on next week.  Uncharted territory...Texas and New Mexico here we come.

On a more sober note, Ian's Grandma who has been suffering in recent years passed away tonite.  It was expected, but no less depressing.  Our thoughts go out to the Barraza family in these tough times.
