FASCINATING "PR 2.0" idea offered in this post: PR Squared: Daily Servings of del.icio.us Delights

Whoa.  Takes a bit to wrap your brain around.  It really illustrates how things are changing, both for how marketers get their message across, AND how reporters find their information/story leads.

Taking PR Squared’s lead, I created a del.icio.us page for the Scrapbooking Industry, in hopes that the link could be passed on (and the RSS feed subscribed to) by mainstream media reporters looking to keep tabs on the scrapbooking industry, and/or need background information for a story.

Other links available:

NOTE: PR Squared is the blog of SHIFT Communications, creators of the "Social Media Press Release" -- another PR-pioneering concept

What do you think?

Edited to Add: Jeremiah Owyang, Web Strategist Extraordinaire, linked to this post, and said it was "smart thinking."  Sweet.

Hey MySpacers - I'm leading two business seminars at the MemoryTrends trade show next month.  The seminar subject is how to use blogging to promote your scrapbooking business.  I would like to show a screenshot of a local scrapbooking store's MySpace page as an example of using MySpace for a blog.   But I'm having trouble finding examples!  Basically I would be saying, "And here's an example of a local scrapbooking store that uses MySpace for their blog" - not critiquing it, or anything.

Got any links for me?

Thanks for your help!

I've just released two ebooks in my marketing series - these focus on the basics of a Virtual Book Tour.

Virtual Book Tours 101:
During a Virtual Book Tour (VBT), an author visits a specific lineup of websites or blogs, similar to a real-life book tour, where stops are made at brick-and-mortar bookstores. Each day, the author visits a different website, from the comfort of her home. But there's much more to it. This 14-page ebook explains and defines all the basics of a Virtual Book Tour.

In VBT 101 you will learn:

* What 4 things an author does at a typical book tour "stop"
* 5 things you can do to make your tour more interactive and better than other tours!
* How long Virtual Book Tours last
* What happens when the tour is over
* Pros & Cons of a Virtual Book Tour like why a VBT is more cost-effective than a physical tour
* Who makes a good Virtual Book Tour candidate and who doesn't
* How to get bloggers to "endorse" your book

Virtual Book Tours 201:
In this 14-page eBook, you will get step-by-step instructions on how to coordinate a tour of your own, and tried-and-true Best Practices to help cut your learning curve for your first tour.

In VBT 201 you will learn:

* 14 steps to follow to set up your own Virtual Book Tour, from beginning to end.
* How to reach readers who miss your book tour
* What one author did to boost reader interaction during her tour
* 20 "Best Practices" tips based on actual Virtual Book Tour experiences
* 2 tips for developing your list of which sites to visit during your tour
* What tool to use to keep track of all the details of your tour
* How to secure product donations for giveaways
* How to keep chats on track and on the topic of your book
* A trick for answering Frequently Asked Questions during chats or interviews
* What to do after EVERY tour "stop"

Did I mention these eBooks are just $7 each?

A marketing tip from Home Business Magazine Online, this one from the article, "If You're Looking for Ways to Stand Out from the Crowd, Try Putting Pen to Paper".

When was the last time you received a handwritten note from a business associate? It may be that it was too long ago for you to remember.

On the other hand, if you have gotten one lately, you know exactly who sent it and when. Handwritten notes have become almost extinct in the business world. So if you are looking for ways to stand out from the crowd, to be noticed by your colleagues and clients, try putting pen to paper whenever you have the slightest excuse.

I've heard this tip from other marketing gurus, such as John Jantsch at Duct Tape Marketing (specific tip here), and Heidi Miller of Diary of a Shameless Self-Promoter (episode #23, specifically).

As professionals in the scrapbooking/paper crafting industry, this is a 'gimme' of a promotional idea. We can make our own cards! So not only can we take our customer service a step further by sending out handwritten notes, we can also handMAKE them! We ROCK! ;) (I actually sent that 'one-step-further' comment to Heidi, and she mentioned it on her podcast, in episode #27. Yea me!)

I've been asked to teach a class/seminar at Memorytrends and would appreciate some input. This will most likely be a lecture-based seminar, no hands-on scrapbook-y projects. Here are the two ideas I have so far:

Blogging Basics: key terms and definitions, overview of hosting/software options, marketing applications, traffic generating tips

Web 2.0 and You: overview/compare & contrast of general "new media" tools such as blogs, podcasts, del.icio.us, MySpace, flickr, YouTube, and other social media tools and how to use them to promote a business.

My interest (and expertise) tends towards marketing + web/technology - last year my talk was on communicating with email newsletters and blogs. What technology issue would you like to see me address? Or what other marketing issue could I cover? Maybe something related to digital scrapbooking?

Thanks for your help!

Having listened to several teleseminars and podcasts about the wonders of MySpace recently, I've decided to jump in.  Still "moving in" and getting things configured.  Currently seeking Friends for marketing referrals and networking.
