....................

Hey all,

.. ..As usual, it’s been awhile since we’ve wrote…this time we
have a very good reason for writing. I’m sorry to tell you all that Summit
Avenue’s last show ever will be on July 25th at Bunkers. We’ve decided that
after 5 years together as a band, it’s time for all of us to move on to
different ventures.  It will be tough to
walk away, especially from seeing all of you out at the shows on a regular
basis. You have all made the last 5 years amazing for us…thank you.

.. ..The good news is that we are going to go out with a bang. We
still have shows between now and July 25th and will be adding some more. In
fact…we’ll be at Bogart’s this Friday night opening for GB Leighton!

Also coming up we have our April 11th show at Bunkers, which
marks 5 years of playing together for us!! So we want to celebrate with you.
That night…Room for Gray will be opening and we will be providing FREE BEER
from 9-10 pm!! There will also be lots of other fun stuff going on that
night…free cd’s…special guests, etc…so be sure not to miss that show!!!

.. ..And be sure to check the schedule and make it out to as many
shows as you can before we call it quits – it would mean a lot to us to see you
guys out at the shows!

.. ..See you soon,

Summit Ave.

Big news! The TV show Extreme Home Makover is currently building a family a house in Albert Lea and we have been asked to play a fundraising event for the family this Saturday afternoon!

This good news is two fold:

- We get to help raise money and help a family that is need of assistance

- When the episode airs...there is a decent chance that you will be seeing a clip of us on prime-time TV!!

We'll keep you posted as we know more details.

Lates,

Jeff

Both the Star Tribune and Pioneer press posted mini-reviews of our new CD Bend today. Check them out below and come out to the release party on Saturday!

Pioneer Press:

Minneapolis foursome Summit Ave boasts a long line of stage-warming gigs for an entirely different set of bands, including Pete Yorn, Better Than Ezra and the Wallflowers. ..:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

And, what do you know, the band fits in quite well among that crowd, sonically speaking, with a clutch of pleasant, piano-based songs that sounds custom-made for Cities 97. Summit Ave just released its second album, "Bend," and celebrates by playing Saturday at the Fine Line on a possibly confusing bill with another local foursome dubbed Cedar Avenue.

Star Tribune:

Funny coincidence that Glen Phillips will be in town to play the Cedar this Sunday. Summit Avenue, a local band that reminds me an awful lot of his old band, Toad the Wet Sprocket, hosts its CD-release party a night earlier at the Fine Line.

"Bend," Summit's second album in a four-year run, was produced by Winterland Studio's Brian Johnson (the other Brian Johnson). The quartet plays a mean soft-hearted ballad, such as "Heart of Mine," which sounds as tailor-made for play in a TV drama as Toad's "All I Want" did 15 years ago. Summit Ave's plainer-jane, Matchbox 20-ish heavier tracks aren't quite as fulfilling, but radio programmers might disagree. Saturday's party fittingly features Cedar Avenue as openers (9 p.m., $8).

Wanted to give you all a quick update from SXSW.

We play tonight at 9, but we hit the town last night and saw a lot of good bands. It’s crazy down here...TONS of bars - everyone with live music.

The funny story of the night...I won’t get in to how we knew it was him, but have you watched the tv show The Bachelor? Well we met the most recent Bachelor last night!! He was coming in to the Dizzy Rooster as we were leaving. We got a picture with him - I promise you we’ll have it up here soon. Tony tried to put a move on him, but he passed.

Outside of that, we blew out a trailer tire in Kansas City on the way here, but were saved by Frank the tire ninja. Long story.

That’s about it for now...I’m going to try to go get rid of this hangover before we play tonight.

Oh...and if you are looking for our CD release party tickets on ticketmaster, make sure you search "Summit Avenue" and you should be able to find them.

Later,

Jeff

We're starting to recruit a Street Team. We're looking for a chosen few people to put up poster's, hand out flyers (stickers), and generally promote the heck out of our upcoming CD Release Party on April 12th at the Fine Line. A good candidate would be someone who's dedicated, enthusiastic and a huge fan of Summit Ave. Your dedication will be paid-off. We'll decide a fitting pay-off for those dedicated few. It will most likely be a CD, a VIP party at the CD release and/or free admittance into upcoming shows.

Please send us a message if you're interested.

As many of you may know...we keep talking about a new album and I'm sure many of you probably think that Britney Spears will become Mom of the Year before we release anything, but I'm happy to tell you all that we just wrapped three straight 12-hour days in the studio.

A brief recap of what went down for those of you who are sitting at work and bored out of your mind.

We are recording our entire album at Winterland Studios in New Hope. Winterland has an AMAZING reputation in the Twin Cities. Just walking through the halls there and looking at the posters of the artists that have recorded there was mind blowing. I'll try to remember as many as possible here - Alanis Morrisette, David Gray, Sarah McLaughlin, Sister Hazel, Craig David, Jason Mraz, etc..., etc...I'm sure I'm forgetting some huge names on that list. you get the idea. Best part yet - the producer we are working with - Brian Johnson - has worked with all of these groups and has just loads and loads of experience. Ever heard of something called the Cities 97 Sampler that sells out every year in about 2 minutes? Brian mixes them.

I'm not trying to brag about any of this...just saying how incredibly happy we are to recording at Winterland and to be working with Brian.

So for those of you who don't know...recording a good CD is an extremely long process. We want everything to be perfect on this one as well. So in our 3 days this weekend, we recorded the drums for 10 songs and the bass for 5 songs. We'll go back next week to finish up the bass and then start on keys and guitar. It's all a long process, but it's certainly worth it.

We went into the weekend a little worried because we only really had 9 songs that we all wanted on the cd. So we felt that we were short on songs. Once we had done 9 of the songs on drums, Josh started recording his bass and Tony and I sat down and wrote a new song. With some tweaking from the rest of the band and Brian...we had song 10. So for those of you who are curious, here are the 10 tracks:

Overcome - Still Waiting - Only Sunday - Bend and Break - Unamed slow song - Unamed new fast song - unamed fast song 2 - Her Stories - and the name of the other song eludes me for right now. Don't you hate that when you can hear a song in your head, but can't think of the name or who sings it.

So that was weekend 1. A weekend that included the following:

Pizza - Chipotle - Chinese - Subs - McDonalds - 1case of beer - 2 bottles of wine - 2 cases of pop

Sounds healthy huh??

Down time was spent playing guitar hero. If you care to know...Josh is THE Guitar Hero in Summit Ave.

More to come on the recording process later...

Yes...it's been too long, but we are finally going to be heading back into the the studio to record our second full length album in January. We anticipate a late spring release so start blocking off your calendars for a potential CD release party.

Word.
