The wait is over! Our second album will be available from Inertia distributors this Saturday 11th so request it at your local store, request it on radio and tell all your friends to do the same. Well, what a blast that was! Songs were amazing with their motorik NZ - style guitar pop that ventured into hypnotic jams, and Schvendes slaying despite a seriously ill keyboard player. We blew out the cobwebs with a couple of oldies and tight-ass versions of the new stuff. Great fun! Aimee Nash took some great photos which you can see in the photo album section (she's going to new places that girl!). Thanks to all friends and family for making the night special. We're collating the "thank-you" list for the album which must mean it's damn close now - thanks for your patience and we'll be seein' ya real soon.

So check it out - there's a brief study of the recording process featuring us looking like we're having nowhere near the fun we actually had (for that side of the coin watch the videos on the front page - ha ha!) and more akin to what the record sounds like (noir-ish) as well as a more detailed collage of our very recent sojourn to the Sydney Theatre Company props department where world-famous photographer Anne Zahalka shot what is to become our album sleeve. We're really teasing you now! The record is SO close you should be able to smell it some time soon.

It's been a big year for the Sparrow, we've certainly not taken January lightly. The unruly beast that is the mixes for Modern Western have been distilled and mastered, from an unmanageable 23 tracks down to a very populist 16. It flows like the River Euphrates. It has variety, laughter, tears, adventure, excitement and is just a thing of wonder - we can't wait for you to hear it. As usual I'm jumping the gun a little - we have to get the artwork sorted and suss an actual release date but I was just too excited and had to tell you.

In other music news, we are playing a show this coming Friday the 8th of Feb. at the Lansdowne Hotel (cnr. City Rd. and Broadway) so come say hi and hear some new tunes.

Hello there friends. The Sparrow are here to tell you of some exciting events coming up.

First show of the year sees us play Spectrum on Oxford St with Days Like Stars THIS COMING FRIDAY 11th OF JANUARY! See you there - we're on around half-nine.

Secondly, we'll be high-tailing it over to the Hopetoun after the show to contribute to the Nonzero Christmas spectacular where we get to play on some Stones tracks with some of our most-talented contemporaries from Peabody, 78 Saab, The Devoted Few, Bluebottle Kiss, Magic Lunchbox, Spurs For Jesus, Lazy Susan, Peter Fenton, Jason Walker, Laura Imbruglia, Fuzu, Death Mattel, Errol JM, Sui Zhen, Mark Moldre and more... with the help of a HORN SECTION!

Yowza.

THEN! The following Wednesday takes in the mastering of our long-awaited second album. Better late than never.

Pardon us for disappearing people - we have finished the record. It's now time to whiten the knuckles and hunker down to some real work. We gotta book mastering, organise the artwork and get some more GIGS, all this as well as trying to get as many of you people to our next show at Spectrum. So if you think we're playing hard to get please don't feel heartbroken. We'll be with you as soon as - we loves ya. Don't be scarce either - send us an encouraging message, a funny photo or remind us of a classic Sparrow moment. It all helps in kepping us fighting the good fight. Sometimes you forget just how FUN this shit is, and how money just ain't everything. Right?!

OK! We finished mixing today and now have 22 completed tracks to sift through. It's sounding so good we really can't wait for y'all to hear what we've been doing since mid 06. New album, new government, new page. The future's looking bright.
