Feb. 12th, 2009 we took off on our first ever Northeastern tour!!! We had an absolute blast. We thought we'd take some time out to make a blog showing some of our SUPER MYSPACE FRIENDS we met along the way!
Linda
We met our dear myspace friend Linda, our angel! She drove down over 2hrs to meet us and see our show at Cornerstone Coffeehouse (Millennium Music Conference 13 Showcase in Pennsylvania). Linda & her sister, Mary also stayed at the hotel room next to ours. Linda played a prank on us and we laughed so hard. We had so much fun with Linda! She kept us laughing! She's the best! We call her our angel because she is always leaving us the nicest comments and messages of encouragement. She even held a fund raiser supporting The Redheads!

Linda & us after we played at Cornerstone. The picture below is the three of us hanging out in our hotel room!

Mike
Our Myspace friend Mike had tickets to go see Willie Nelson the same night we played Cornerstone, so he went the extra mile and got us a gig at Cuppy's Coffeehouse so he could meet us! Mike and his precious wife, Kay greeted us with a large bag of the orginal chocolate kiss which are called Wilbur Buds! Those chocolates were so good - we'd have a handful every hour on the road! They also treated us to an incredible lunch. We can't thank them enough for their love, support and helping out us starving artists!

Mike & Kay with us! The picture below is us standing on stools trying to be taller than Mike!

John
John is a new myspace friend. He had just added us a few days earlier and came to see us at Cornerstone. Then he also journeyed out to see us again at Cuppy's! During the soundcheck we sang the song "It's a Heartache" just for fun and found out it was John's favorite song so we were honored to include it in our set and dedicate to him, our wonderful new friend! How sweet is that to come to two shows and John was so complimentary to us. He made our day!

John & us at Cornerstone. Below is a pic of John with us at Cuppy's. Followed by a group picture of us with John, Kay & Mike.

Matt
Then we traveled up to Connecticut and met our longtime myspace friend and street team leader, Matt. It was awesome! We met many wonderful people at the Walmart store Matt works at. Connecticut was full of love and laughter and very special memories. Since we are big huggers we hugged everybody! Then we went off to Matt's house and met his wonderful family and played a house concert. It was blast and a memory we will treasure forever!
Below are pictures with Matt and the other people we met at the Walmart store & also pics of Matt and his Family.

We finished up the tour at the prestigious Maxwell's NJ Songwriters Night in Hoboken, New Jersey. We performed with three other talented and famous songwriters. The event had a superb sound engineer and great acoustics in a venue full of serious listeners. When we performed it was so quiet you could hear a pin drop while we sang our songs. There were two rounds where each songwriter played two songs each and we were fortunate enough to get to close the evening with such an incredible audience. Maxwell's is so cool and we are honored to have joined such an impressive line up.

Then we drove back home 16 hours in our tiny Scion full to the max! We brought back memories we will always cherish and hold dear to our hearts! Thank you all for making this the most memorable road trip of all time for The Redheads!

Unfortunately, we have to start this blog off on a sad note... At 5 weeks and three days we lost Sable and Gigi to a horrible birth defect called FIP. It's a genetic mutation that shows up between 4 and 6 weeks. It's a very painful condition that has no cure. We thought Felix might have it also so he had to spend some time at the vets office for observation. It was really hard on us to lose the two sisters. We were devastated. They had brought us so much joy and love. However, we were so grateful they came into our lives and that we were able to provide a warm loving home in return. At the vets office we thought we were going to lose all three kitties so you can imagine the pain we were going through. Then 5 days later we got the call that Felix was doing well and tested negative for all feline diseases. So we rejoiced in Felix's homecoming! Felix is truly a miracle. He made it through even though he was born a full week premature! Felix is full of personality! He loves to clown around. However, since he was such a great big brother, Felix became VERY lonely without his sisters...
A couple of weeks went by and we decided to go to an animal shelter to adopt a new sister for Felix. We were very shocked to see how many animals were at the shelter. This economy has also taken it's toll on misplaced animals. We went to a kill shelter so these were last chance babies. We found a little sweetheart and Felix loves her. So we are back to being a very happy family as you can tell by the photos.
We named her Faye! So hopefully Faye and Felix will have many years together!
Look how Felix has grown!

Let us introduce you to Faye!

Felix & his adopted sister Faye!

A happy Family!

Day 1-
When we went to feed our horses in the morning, we heard little squeaks in the barn! We removed some of the slates we store the hay on and to our surprise... there were 3 little kittens! The orange one and the black one were huddled close together. But the calico was all alone (being the runt). We left them for a while to make sure their Mama wasn't coming back. Went to the feed store and got supplies just in case she'd left them (We thought it was odd she wasn't around). Five hours and several check ups later, they were still crying. We decided the little one looked too bad off and we had to do something. I (Britta) touched her first and she was so cold we knew we'd done the right thing. Brooke picked up the orange one and I (Britta) got the black one too. The little one was very smart and latched on the bottle first. The black kitty wouldn't latch on so we had to use a dropper. They slept for 4 hours then we fed again. And the cycle continued sleep 4 hours- feed- sleep 4 hours -feed! The orange tabby really liked his tummy rubbed. All 3 purred. We occasionally used a blow dryer on them to keep them warm and also bought a heating pad.

Day 2-
Made it through the night! Switched feed to goats milk after the Vet recommended the change. The Vet told us they were premature kitties which is common in a feral cats first litter. Vet also said that if we couldn't get the black one to latch today she wouldn't make it. The little one was sneezing a little. Late afternoon we finally got the black one to latch on and we were so relieved. She'd been worrying us!!!

Below are some videos of the kitties! Day 3, Day 4, and Day 6!!!Day 3-Day 4-Day 6-
We named them the 3rd day!!! Orange one= Felix Black one= Sable Calico(runt)= Gigi
Sable seems to have accepted us as her Mama. She doesn't cry or look around for a Mama cat anymore. She's perfectly content with human hands holding her and loves the attention! The other two (Felix & Gigi) still search for Mama cat, but they do purr when we hold them. Felix opened his eyes first (on day 10), but the other two haven't yet. They're going to be a little behind schedule because they are premature.

The Redheads: Talent Times Two
By PHIL SWEETLAND Music and Radio contributor, http://www.nytimes.com/
NASHVILLE – Florida natives Britta and Brooke Dodgen may well be the most promising female duo in Country since the Judds, but a skittish horse nearly kept them from ever reaching Nashville at all.
More than 35,000 MySpace friends are delighted that Britta and Brooke, the beautiful auburn-haired singers and songwriters known collectively as The Redheads, didn't let that 1,000-pound animal stand in their way.
Indirectly Tiara, the horse, led the Redheads straight to Country Radio and Country music.
Britta and Brooke are now 20 and 17, respectively, but six years ago a terrible fall off of Tiara forced little Brooke to go through a long period of rehab which put her early loves for riding and ballet both in serious jeopardy.
"I was really depressed," says Brooke, whose mother soon noticed the changes in her normally upbeat, outgoing younger daughter.
But then Brooke discovered Country Radio and Country Music Television.
"That's when Brooke started smiling again," Mrs. Dodgen says.
Something about the stories in the songs, along with the simple power of the music by artists like Reba McEntire and Trisha Yearwood, literally helped the kid back up on her feet.
"Country music," Brooke says, "showed me that everyone has problems, but that you just have to hold on and get through them the best you can."
One particular Reba single – "I'm Gonna Take That Mountain" – became the girls' theme song during Brooke's recovery.
"It's one of those songs," Britta says during a conversation in Nashville, "that will stay with us the rest of our lives. When we met the songwriter Jerry Salley (who co-wrote that 2003 Reba hit with Melissa Peirce), we just broke out in tears."
MySpace has enabled The Redheads to hear directly from fans who find magic not only in the ladies' music, but also in their courageous life story. "So many people relate to Brooke's injury," the girls tell us. "They share their own stories with us – from car accidents to disabilities – and Brooke has become a major inspiration to others."
Long before the injury, both sisters had already demonstrated immense talent in music. Britta started out singing opera – not the Grand Ole Opry type, the Schermerhorn Center type – and dancing ballet all over the USA and even in Scotland. Brooke likewise danced with some of the world's most prestigious ballet companies.
But the very same drive that enabled these overachieving and beautiful girls to climb to the top levels of the equestrian and dance world is now focused on writing and performing Country music.
And The Redheads are opening lots of eyes – and ears.
This summer, they entered the fiercely competitive and highly prestigious W.C. Handy Festival in Alabama. Despite the dozens of talented artists on hand, The Redheads qualified for the Top Six Singer/Songwriter Showcase at the Festival. Their performances at 2nd Half Studio in Sheffield and Da'Hideaway Resaurant in Tuscumbia, Alabama were packed.
Songs like "Light A Candle," a message ballad ("I light a candle/for all the children of the world") show a Radio-friendly and family-friendly sense, plus a great talent for duet arrangement and harmony. The girls alternate on the verses, and each voice has great character. They also share the gift of family harmony that Southern Country, Bluegrass, and Gospel groups have treasured for generations.
"Waves Of Emotion" is a bluesy tempo tune with the vocals playing on top of electric guitar and thumping percussion; "Boys Will Be Boys" has wonderful shades of the Judds, but with a unique Redheads edginess to it; while "I Don't Wanna Fall" explores the minor keys and anger which so often come in music from artists of the Dodgens' age, but few Country artists have had the courage to sing it.
Funny thing is, though, that the artist who the Redheads seem to admire the most is one who was born in 1935, over 50 years before either of them. It's Loretta Lynn, who was groundbreaking in the early 1960s in her "Coal Miner's Daughter" period, then shook up Music Row in the 1970s with "One's On The Way" and "Rated X," and remains brilliant and unpredictable today.
And oh by the way, Loretta's daughters, the identical twins Patsy and Peggy, scored some of Country Radio's last hits by a female duo called The Lynns, with "Nights Like These" and "Woman To Woman" in 1997.
So Nashville remains a very small world, when it comes to extremely talented and attractive stars like the Redheads.
