I can't believe how wonderful the Northwest has been.  Friends, family, strangers have taken us in as if today was the last day for a kind action.

Mary and I have played 7 shows in 8 days.  Not too bad considering that some of those gigs were booked a few hours prior to down beat.

So many adventures have transpired but we've grabbed them by the horns.  We're clearly being watched and taken care of by the greater.  We're blessed with great surroundings, people, music, and everything you can imagine.

Thanks and props to:
Luckey's Cigar Bar (Eugene, OR)
Buffalo Gap (Portland, OR)
Blue Moon Tavern (Seattle, WA)
Fuel (Seattle, WA)
Acoustic Tavern (Bellingham, WA)
Fairhaven Pub (Bellingham, WA)
Spar Tree Bar (Granite Falls, WA)

Stay posted with ShesOn news at Twitter.com

I heart you all!

Cheers,

Through struggle, dedication, and hardship, life will pull through with some icing. Always.
I'm so proud to announce the trials and tribulations of my family. They are the strongest people I have ever met. And I've met some wild characters along the way. Through drama of life and family, through politics and morals, across the vast U.S., Hawai'i, Canada, Mexico, and Central America I've realized people are just people. On a spectrum so broad there is no tool to measure or analyze what makes us, us. But it makes the world go round with a balance so extreme that we wonder how we get to the other side. You never give up.
I'm grateful to say that through thick and thin, through love and anger, through confusion and hope, through adventure and peace, my family is what will inspire me until the day I can't remember.
A view on life: you have hope and realize that people are always changing. Mostly for the better. Years seem to put on strength on a being's mind and it's empowering. The physical body will change, mostly for the worse, but it's our gift from some one of higher power to let us express ourselves for the time we're given. It's Yin and Yang.

I'm so lucky to have been surrounded by strength, intelligence, and art. Aw Yes. ART.
Six sisters and every one is what makes my world go round.

Two are amazing mothers. Coming from peaks and valleys to dark to speak of, I know they give what wasn't given. It's a gift to be unconditional. And that they are.

One is torn of world politics, hunger, and morals. It eats at her soul. Not a day goes by when she's not thinking and acting on ideas to improve humanity. Baby steps to a greater stride.

Another teaches. What a lovely way. To show others, what you have been shown. Especially with so much life under your belt. Travel, Education, Understanding, Art, and an open mind. Teachers give us some of the options we've chosen to get this far.

Another is modeling in Guadalajara, Mexico. Young and precious. I'm so excited for her career because she's always been our guinea pig for photography inspirations, musical plays we've performed for our family, and much more. Since she was 4 yrs. old. She will be featured in CELESTE magazine this September. Congratulations!

And last, one is a musician. Like myself. Turning to the notes and sounds in the air. The words in our minds and on paper to get us through these years. It's the only way for us. She's currently released her new album 'Morning Afternoon' on her record label 'Swayback Records'. It's a journey in to the mind of her. And a wonderful journey it is.
So much to account for, but what inspires you? What drives you?
For me: the good that comes from the hardships.

Our first award for this album, from Sonic Jive thank you Mike!

Well, I have spent the past 5 weeks listening to every CD I have received since we opened the website on February 11, 2007 and it is all amazing. To pick 10 CDs out of the hundreds I have received has been a remarkable task. In fairness, not all CDs were released in 2007, but as a start-up, I did NOT make that part of the judging criteria. Starting this year, and going forward, winners will have to have a release date in the year previous to be eligible.

I have to admit this is the "FUN" part of my job, but it is so awfully difficult to narrow it down to ten. But, I have finished and I want to thank EVERY band who sent me a CD, and remember, if you are on the site you were picked by me initially so I think all of your music is "TOP TEN WORTHY".

Each pick is also a link to purchase the CD and I urge every one to buy each of the CDs. In fact, if you purchase all ten, and purchase a SonicJive apparel item from Cafe Press I will send you a $25 Best Buy Gift Card as a way of saying THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT!

OK here goes,

AND.......OUR PICK FOR 2007 CD OF THE YEAR
(drumroll please...................)

Thankyou Michael Canter and the ever growing Sonic Jive Community, it's an honor to recieve this award, especially when looking at all the amazing albums there were to choose from! Mahalo, Sheila and the Band

Sunday night recap of Trilogy show in Boulder, CO - wow!

.. 7885 --> Posted 01/28/2008 at 2:42 AM by dutch

Jefferson Hamer from Great American Taxi opened with an electrified guitar solo set. His voice and guitar playing are just amazing. I would have to describe his voice as very close to Don Maclean's (of "bye bye miss american pie" song fame). He's just so good and so natural onstage. Jefferson's heading to the east coast for a while so if you get a chance to see him play, do it now. He'll be gone for awhile...

Meniskus played second and pretty much blew everyone away including the headliner band from San Diego (which had a grammy winner and a touring member of the Black Eyed Peas / Fergie / Will.i.am's touring band(s). These are some seriously accomplished professional musicians so it was cool to see them so genuinely impressed

Sheila Sondergard, the headliner from San Diego played last. She is not only gorgeous, but totally down to earth and easy going. And talented. It helps that she had perhaps the most killer back up band I have ever seen...the drummer and percussionist played a drum battle that melted everyone's face in the room...one handed rolls on the snare just like Buddy Rich...wow.

The sound at Trilogy was top notch too

oh yeah good size crowd AND it was a Sunday night and the cover was $8. Lots of fun. I don't get to Boulder nearly enough so tonight was a real treat.

If you live close to the Dnote, Sheila Sondergard is playing there Monday night. Her and her band are the real deal and put on a great show. Check em out if you live in the area

ok, time for bed now

Actually. No...  It was more like a tale of events.  And it makes a perfect outline of the things to remember on the road.
The music played itself.  It made every promise to me that I had hoped for. It's a Give-and-Take relationship so it was expected. Basically, you get what you put in.  As for that.... You could say we over exceeded.

First of all....
Management is a MUST! You're super lucky if it's a friend!

AND
Itineraries are a MUST! -Shawn Balch (founder extraordinaire)
--BUT it's a must to skate outside the lines.  Tee hee.  Even if it causes diturbance 5min off the plane into Denver International.

Second....
If following ChuckPrada (one word).....be aware that consequences will follow.  And that's only for you.  ChuckPrada is exempt from all of the above and following from here ...  If he chooses, of course.

Third....bring laptops and gadgets.
--It keeps all drummers and percussionists occupied.

Fourth....Entourage is key!
--Friends, Sprites, Pixies, Cuties, and a Hottie can only make you more POWERFUL!

Fifth...Take advantage of ALL perks that come along the way.
--Eucalyptus saunas, jacuzzis, gondolas, making out, snowflakes, hot eats (such as Jack Daniels, fried okra, jerk chicken, lump crab, sirloins), cool treats (such as chocolate cake, cold Newcastles, fresh greyhounds), baskets full of apples (for your pleasure ;), family, sisters, cool people that let you stay at their house ("Hostest with the mostest", if you will).
These all help in relaxing any forms of stress that the road will bring ;)

Next....Sleep
--It doesn't really exist on the road.
Maybe because it's a short time in between point A and point B.  Or because something really good was happening the night before.

Next....Don't forget to document_
    --Things happen.

Next....Saltines sometimes revive your friends off of the sidewalk in 30 degree weather.
This was recommended by a stranger.  "Thanks Guy!"

Next...Bring a first aid kit.
In this case, sometimes your drummers and percussionists will fall unexpectedly.
Either swaggering back to the vehicle and tumbling shoulder first into a snow bank.  Or falling UPHILL (face first) while taking pictures of the mountains.  While you're waiting for the officer to finish his ticket writing....AGAIN.

Next....Sister Who (please search) will put a spell on anyone in contact.
In this case, our string players (more so mr. Martin) have officially become obsessed. Be aware.

NEXT....ChuckPrada will put a spell on anyone in contact.
In this case....EVERYONE.  I don't know if you should be aware or just join the movement.

NEXT...Don't be surprised when things happen.
Sometimes you'll wake up with frozen quesadilla on your back windshield. Bass players can not be contained ;)

NEXT....It's okay to tell someone that their feet stink. Yours probably do to.

AND LAST FOR NOW...Don't forget to THANK EVERYONE who was a part of EVERTHING.  From beginning til' whenever.  THANK YOU!

xoxo She
