Psalm 51 is a cry from the gut of David, when Nathan the prophet came to him revealing to David that God sees and knows what David has done, after he commited adultry with Bathsheba. Color and underlining is my own emphasis, and my own comments are in brackets.
This is what David says,
"Be gracious to me, O God, according to Thy lovingkindness; According to the greatness of Thy compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, For I know my transgressions And my sin is ever before me. Against Thee, Thee only, I have sinned, And done what is evil in Thy sight, So that Thou art justified when Thou dost speak, And blameless when Thou dost judge. " (1. David recognized a Holy, yet compassionate God. 2. David comes to God completely broken hearted over his sin confessing it to God. This broken heartedness is the key to David's relationship with God and the fact that David had a heart after God, so he knew He had hurt God's heart.) "Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, And in sin my mother conceived me." ( This is an interesting comment because in many of todays religions and worldly thinking they believe that you are born without sin. But think about it, You do not have to teach a child how to misbehave or to disobey their parents, they just automatically do. On the other hand you do have to teach them to do good and to obey their parents. If you don't they most likely end up in total rebellion. David, led by the Holy Spirit in what he is writting, speaks the truth.) "Behold, Thou dost desire truth in the innermost being, And in the hidden part Thou wilt make me know wisdom. Purify me with hyssop and I shall be clean: Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. Make me to hear joy and gladness, Let the bones which Thou hast broken rejoice. Hide Thy face from my sins, And blot out all my iniquities. " ( David is crying out to God for forgiveness and cleansing of his soul and spirit. This is very telling because in Exodus 12: 21 - 22 Moses, directed by God, called the elders of Israel to take for themselves lambs according to their families, and to slay the Passover Lamb. They were to take a bunch of hyssop and dip it in the blood of the lamb and apply it to the lintel and the two doorposts of their door, which interestingly formed a cross, and when the plage of death came upon Egypt, death would pass over that household with the blood applied. Then we fast forward to the Gospel of John in which John the Baptist introduces Jesus saying " Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! " and then later when Christ was hanging on the cross, John's eyewitness account discribes this scene in 19: 29 - 30 " A jar full of sour wine was standing there; so they put a sponge full of the sour wine upon a branch of hyssop, and brought it up to His mouth. When Jesus therefore had received the sour wine, He said, " It is finished!" And He bowed His head, and gave up His spirit." Jesus had taken and received the punishment for my sin and yours, for the sin of the world" He is the Passover Lamb! He finished what He came to do) (David continues his heart cry.) Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me away from Thy presence, And do not take Thy Holy Spirit from me. ( David loved the Lord and spent much time with him, talking to Him and being ministered to by the Lord. David sought to be obedient to God and He loved to worship Him reveling in Who God Is. He did not want his fellowship with the Lord broken, knowing full well that God is a Holy God, but also knowing that He desires truth and a repentant heart He again crys out to God for mercy , please Lord don't leave me, I want to be in Your presence. Take away my missory, restore the joy of Thy salvation to me Lord. )..
"Restore unto me the joy of Thy salvation, And sustain me with a willing spirit, I will teach transgressors Thy ways, And sinners will be converted to Thee." ( David desires and tells God I will teach others, probably giving his own testimony, and teach them to recognize their sin and to turn to God and confess to Him and to live for Him ) "Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, Thou God of my salvation; My tongue will joyfully sing of Thy righteousness. O Lord, open my lips, That my mouth may declare Thy praise. For Thou dost not delight in sacrifice, otherwise I would give it; Thou art not pleased with burnt offering. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and a contrite heart, O God, Thou wilt not despise." Psalm 51: 1 - 17
God sees and honors one who understands that they have sinned before a Holy God that loves them very deeply and that they understand that it is not only others we may sin against but it is ESPECIALLY GOD that we sin against. David said, "Against Thee, Thee only have I sinned, And done what is evil in Thy sight." This is why He came in a fleshly body in the Son, Jesus Christ, and He gave His own sinless life shedding His blood, sacrificed on a cross having my sin and yours placed upon Him who knew no sin. But you can not apply His work to your life if you reject him. You must BY FAITH, BELIEVE, REALLY BELIEVEING IN YOUR HEART, ACKNOWLEDGE YOUR SIN and that you REALIZE YOU ARE A SINNER, TURN TO GOD AND AWAY FROM PRACTICING SIN (we all mess up but that is different than practicing and actively pursuing sin. God is merciful and He is Faithful and Just to forgive us our sins as we daily seek Him and confess to Him when we mess up.) CONFESSING IT TO HIM and BELIEVE THAT HE/JESUS DIED AND ROSE AGAIN OUT OF LOVE FOR YOU, and RECEIVE HIM INTO YOUR HEART. HE WILL WASH YOU CLEAN AND COME AND DWELL IN YOU GIVING YOU A NEW AND FRESH BEGINNING. If you do this than you become His child, a part of His family. And You grow in your faith and your relationship with Him by reading His Word, The Bible, and by praying and talking to Him every day. Seek out a church that reads out of, teaches and studies the Bible going through the Word, not just touching on a verse here and there to make a point, but one that takes you through it in their services. Also, one that loves and lifts up the Name of Jesus our Lord and Savior. If you have any questions or if this has helped you in any way pop me a note to let me know.
Love and blessing to all Tammy That my friend is GOOD NEWS!

Current mood: chipper
Friday, November 02, 2007 ..>| | Works vs Faith Current mood: chipper Works vs. Faith Current mood: chipper One day as I was spending time with the Lord, He gave me an analogy I thought was pretty cool. I scratched it down on a piece of paper and tucked it away. Well, I came across it again so here it is.
On a CD, or for you ancient people a record or cassett tape, it already has everything recorded on it, the lyrics, the music, the instruments, the vocals, effects etc... the work has been done - in essence "It is finished".
Now, I can take that CD or record and if I try and try my hardest to spin it with my finger using all my energy, maybe for the old fashioned record holding a needle on it trying to get sound out of it, trying to get it to do what it was designed to do, till I 'm blue in the face. I would get frustrated and weary of trying to make it work for me. I may, at the most from the record, get a squeak or scratchy sound out of the friction of the needle I'm holding to it. But if on the other hand I take this "Finished work" and put the record or CD in the Player, close the lid and plug it in, I am now tapped into the source of Power and I can take advantage of the blessing of the "Finished Work" that is bringing beautiful music into my life.
So it is with God and the "Finished Work of the cross of Calvary. We can not take full advantage of the blessings God has for us if we are not plugged into the scorce, through acknowledging God, repentance of our sin and Faith in Jesus Christ.
Scripture records in John's written eye-witness account of Jesus Christ crucifiction, "After this, Jesus, knowing that all things had already been accomplished, in order that the scripture might be fulfilled, said, "I am Thirsty." A jar full of sour wine was standing there; so they put a sponge full of the sour wine upon a branch of hyssop, and brought it up to His mouth. When Jesus therefore had received the sour wine, He said, " It isfinished!" And He bowed His head, and gave up His spirit. John 19: 28 - 30
You see Jesus Christ, (God in the flesh) has already done the the work fulfilling all that God required to redeem people that He loves so much from their sins. see John 3:16 " It is finished! " We can not possibly, no matter how hard we try, by our works, work our way to a relationship with a Holy, Loving, and Just God thereby receiving the benefit of being His child. It's just like trying to spin the CD with our finger, we can not make that connection with God unless we plug into the source. The only way to do that is by Faith, believing 1 that He is, and that being God He has given us His precious Word to reveal Himself to us. And 2 He requires that we simply recognize that we have sinned against Him and His laws so God is looking upon our hearts to see that we acknowledge this and we respond by ask Him to forgive us, turning from practicing sin and turning to Jesus Christ receiving Him as the complete and perfect sacrifice that paid for the penalty of my sins. See Mark 1:15 and Acts 2:38 These speak of repentance and belief.
Also Romans 10:9 - 10 says " that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in you heart that God raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved; for with the heart man believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses resulting in salvation.
All other religions of the world are systems of works. People striving to attain a higher plain, or become god like or working their way into eternity or the next life etc.. All on their own feeble efforts. That is why it is so hard for people to grasp the simplicity of the gospel (good news) of Jesus Christ. It truly is good news and it is life changing and life transforming when you GET IT.
"For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, that no one should boast." Ephesians 2:8 - 9
God's Word is truly miraculous and when you discover it's truths and it's glorious message to all of mankind it causes you to see everything clearly and God Himself comes in the person of the Holy Spirit to dwell in you, teaching you as you go along in life as you seek to know Jesus more. See Acts 4:12 How do you know someone? Answer - By spending time with them. Spend time with God, pray ask Him about things you want to know about. Read His Word, His Word tells us about Who He Is and about man and how man has been given a will to receive Him or reject Him and the blessings or consequences that come with the choices you make. And it tells you of His Great Love for You and How he planned from the beginning to redeem souls who would only believe on His Name. It tells of the glories of heaven and the Horrors of hell and how you can choose life and eternity with Him. It gives us good and moral standards to live by with the 1 commandment to Love God and to Love others, and So...... much more.
Let me know what you think? And I leave you with this scripture "And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore also God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus EVERY KNEE SHOULD BOW, of those who are in heaven, and on earth, and under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father." Philippians 2: 8 - 11

Current mood: tired
Hey All, Thought I would just write a tid bit about my life. Last Friday, Oct. 19th, I went out to Vista out near Ocean Side with my daughter to see my oldest son and my nephew. We stayed the weekend with them because 1. I just wanted to hang with them and 2. my younger sons band Cirque de Sound was playing an outreach concert on Saturday. I had a blast visiting hashing over Biblical doctrine and hanging with all their friends. The band also stayed at their apartment, now that was fun. Those guys are nuts. They tend to keep everyone laughing. They were flopped all over the floor in the living room and my daughter and I slept in the other room. Well all was quiet and the drummer was finishing brushing his teeth and next thing you hear an outburst of laughter ( my daughter and I were clued in on) the lead singer had an infered camra and they took a vidio while they pantsed the drummer. They were comming unglued at the seams. It was pretty funny! Well, then everyone just got silly. We finally all went to sleep. Anyway, the concert was awesome. They rocked! God has gifted these guys incredibly and they play & sing with all their heart. They jam! But they also love the Lord and they let people know of their need of Him and their testimony. My other son got up and shared the gospel message and poured out his heart to those who came and He did an awesome job. I can't help it, I'm a proud Mom, what can I say? These guys are teen and collage age and they are a great group of guys. My daughter and I left on Sunday and drove through a wind and dust storm just learning that some fires had been started not knowing what was to come. We made it home safe and woke up the next morning to find out about all the Southern California fires burning all over. Well, Vista is not far from many of the flare ups surrounding the San Diego area. So far they are O.K. My oldest son works at Camp Pendelton and has been helping with evacuations and other various things needed. Keep all those in these fire areas and the firemen and their families in your prayers. God has move upon many hearts to help and give comfort to those affected. In the midst of tradgedy you can alway see His hand of mercy at work. Well, that was my exciting weekend Love and Blessings till my next Blog!

Category: Religion and Philosophy
We live in a world with opinions and theories about everything from cars, sports, religion, politics and veiws about what the Bible says flying all over the place. The following elaboration on The Word of God has a point at the end. Let me know your comments on the matter.
When it comes to reading and understanding the Bible, the Bible itself says in John 3:3 (Jesus speaking) "Jesus answered and said to him, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God." (He cannot see, means He cannot comprehend or understand.) Nicodemus then responds in vs. 4 "How can a man be born when he is old? He cannot enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born, can he?" (A valid question.) vs.5 & 6 "Jesus answered, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. "That which is born of the flesh is flesh and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit." (Born of water - When a baby is conceived a seed is planted in the furtile place of the uterus, then is nurtured and begins to develope. The baby when in the womb is in a protective covering filled with water or a watery substance. When the baby is born the bag burst and water/liquid poors out. So this part of the verse is refering to being physically born. Born of the flesh.
Born of the Spirit - One of the terms the Bible uses for The Word of God is called the seed, or a seed. The seed/Word is planted into the furtile place of the heart through people teaching, preaching, and spreading it around and also by those who pick it up and read it taking it into the heart. As the seed is nurtured Faith in God and in His Word devlopes. When a person reads or hears about the Gospel of Jesus Christ (found in the Bible), recognizes they have sinned and they repent (repent - turn away from practicing their sinful way and turn to God through faith in Jesus) and then reaches out to God with their faith receieving Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord of their life, (As a plant seed receives water to sprout and grow) The Seed of the Word begins to sprout and grow giving birth to the new life. You then become "Born Again" or "Born of the Spirit".
The Spirit of God then comes into your heart and dwells in you. It is God's Spirit that leads, guides and transforms your life. It is the Holy Spirit who gave the men who penned the sciptures the Words to write down. The Holy Spirit is the Author of the Word of God and you can not understand the Bible without the Author dwelling in you and teaching you what meant. (For example almost everyone has heard of Abraham Lincon and George Washington. I can even say I believe they existed and I know who they are, BUT I DO NOT PERSONALLY KNOW THEM. Books have been written about them and I can know alot of thing about them but only they can tell me what is really true about them.) It is the same with God, only He, Himself can reveal to us the Truth about who He is and what His Word means. He does this by His Holy Spirit residing in those who By Faith receive His Son Jesus Christ.
I say all of this to make this point. I have observed all kinds of articles being written and news stories and stuff about end times and on and on. The Bible calls it "Every wind of Doctrine" or "False Doctrine" Be Careful what you grab onto as your truth. Ask the Holy Spirit to give you discernment. Even those who talk about "false doctrine" can themselves be in error. Read God's Word, Study it, and when you do read it don't read it to use as a tool to point the finger at someone else in some devisive way. Our motive in reading the Bible should be to come to KNOW the Author and to seek him for Truth asking the Lord to change our hearts and to fill us with His love and mercy and the desire to live pleasing to him in all we say and do. When He does give us warnings and shows us things that will unfold in these "Last Days", let us remember to examine our own hearts before we seek to correct others and then if the Lord leads us to speak correction into someone elses life go and speak in Love and NOT in our stinky pride that wants to say "I'm right" Remember our goal is to bring those who are lost and need a Savior to Jesus and to Glorify Him in all we do.
Praise Be to Jesus! Tammy
