Books For Soldiers Valentines Day Newsletter February 2008
___________________________ Valentines For Everyone!
Valentines Day is coming up quickly and a lot of our soldiers are prepping to return home. One of soldiers I mail is returning home after more than a year in Iraq. He may be a few days late for Valentines Day with his wife, but in the end, it doesn't matter. Conversely, a lot of troops will be deployed soon so expect a slight rise in the number of requests.
If you are deployed and want to meet you sweetie back home, we will be having a Valentines Day party in Second Life. We will have flowers to give to your Valentine along with some other surprises. The festivities go all day long - feel free to show up any time you like.
Once you are signed up for Second Life, use the link below to teleport into the BFS Social Club in Second Life. http://slurl.com/secondlife/Nimbus/222/91/24/
___________________________ Giving Thanks, Shout-outs and Props!
Know of a company that has aided you in your pursuit to send books to troops? Maybe put out a donation box to collect books? Cough up some postage? Post your story to the "Thanks To Companies That Help" thread. http://booksforsoldiers.com/forum/index.php?topic=28481.0
___________________________ BFS on Facebook!
Are you on Facebook? Well, thanks to Lily Casura, so are we! We are up to 47 members and if you are on their, please join our little group, meet some other BFSers and share some of your post office stories. Here is the link... http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=5349442735
___________________________ BFS on MySpace!
My brother got me started on MySpace - it seemed that was the only way to reach him at times. Some deployed troops have access to MySpace and some don't. I guess I was lucky that my brother had access.
Thanks to BFS Moderator NYNDPA, we have a MySpace page! We have a few friends and are always welcoming more. Drop us a note in the comments and read BFS news in the blog section. We look forward to seeing you on MySpace! http://www.myspace.com/booksforsoldiers
_______________ Make a small donation today. And of course, our last paragraph is reserved for the begging. BFS runs 100% on your tax-deductible donations and if it wasn't for your generous gifts, BFS would have closed down years ago. Please consider a small donation today.
To get to our Donation Page, just click on the Donate button on the bottom of any BFS page.
We also accept checks and money orders, see our Donation Page for details. http://booksforsoldiers.com/donate.php
Your PayPal receipt, canceled check or money order receipt serves as your BFS donation receipt.

Current mood: aggravated
Here is what kills me.
We got an application from Australia and the travel time was 6 days to the office here in Winston Salem, NC.
Today I got a CD Rom from Charlotte, NC today - arriving at the same address. Travel time? 10 damn weeks. TEN!
Seventy days to travel 90 miles.
Unbelievable.
We are seeing more and more very late apps these days. Slow postal service is not just to the BFS address, but I also see it at work and at home.
Drives me nuts.
