Salvete!

Have been asked for the following pictures that are online showing the 'girly part' of Musica Romana. We are giving further informations about them now. They have been taken already in 2007 while producing the following documentary:

SPA-Discoverer of the old China, India and Rome

Documentation | 2007 | 52 min | German

The dream of eternal beauty - the need for a good life - the desire to
defeat death. The major high cultures of antiquity developed
sophisticated ideas and skills to these natural longings of the human
dependence. Experience of millennia flowed into the healing systems of
ancient China, India and Rome.

These cultures generated an enormous
treasure of knowledge. Its significance is confirmed by modern science
gradually rediscovered. The traditional Chinese medicine, Ayurveda from
India and water and cures from ancient Rome today experiencing a
tremendous boom worldwide. Rightly - because they meet human needs and
medical needs holistic than western medicine it is possible. For the
three TV documentary on the history of leisure in China, India and
Rome, the science journalist Peter Bardehle and Kurt Lang leg with
cinematographer Wolfgang Thaler on an extraordinary voyage of discovery
made.

Musica Romana has been choosen for performances with harp and lyra in the thermes (bath) while the daughter of Emperor Augustus is taking a bath. Furthermore we appeared in the festivity scene while a Roman guest meal is taking place. All costumes, places and replicas have been choosen carefully to get as close to the historical accuracy as possible.

We have been filmed at the Roman Villa Borg in Germany.

Director: Kurt Langbein, Peter Bradehle
Camera: Wolfgang Thaler, Mario Hopfgartner
Production: Long Leg & SKALNIK / Media Vidicom, Hamburg

The documentary has been shown a dozen times on channels like ARTE f.e. It is also availible on DVD.

All picture taken bei Mario Hopfgartner, Susanna Rühling and Jutta Knur.
Permission kindly granted.

The set has been quiet fun as well as worked very proffessionally.
Thank you!

Trying to start a collection of news, events and reviews within this blog...we will start up with this...

Lyre of Ur concert in London
30 October 2008

The Golden Lyre of Ur has been heard in a rare concert in London on Friday evening the 5th of December, starting at 7.30 pm.  The concert was held in conjunction with the Babylon exhibition, held at the British Museum, and was titled "Music from Mesopotamia and more:  Archaeological music from the great civilizations of Greece, Rome and Sumer".  Featured performers were include: Bill Taylor and Jennifer Sturdy (lyre & voice), Stefan Hagel (aulos & kithara), Susanna Rühling and Jutta Knur of Musica Romana (panpipes, traverse flute aulos, drums, percussion, voice and dance).

The concert had been organized by Andy Lowings from the Lyre of Ur - project (www.lyre-of-ur.com). Thank you very much, Andy!

We enjoyed ourselves a lot and had great fun by playing music together with people from other projects and fields, all dealing with ancient music and music-archaeology.
