So if you've somehow been living under a rock I guess I should let you in on forgetters. Which is sad for you coming from someone who lives an hour outside any sort of "real" town. Just kidding! My excuse is that I'm over a year unemployed now and am online a LOT...heh
forgetters is the newest Blake Schwarzenbach band, of Jawbreaker and Jets to Brazil fame. Yes, there was a band called The Thorns of Life that Blake was in but that has since died. The good news is that he has partnered with two ex-Gainesville musicians (Caroline Paquita of Bitchin, and Kevin Mahon of Against Me!) and they still play some of those Thorns of Life gems as well as some phenomenal new material of their own! I thought some of the stuff I hadn't heard was even better than the songs I did already know. Ha, which reminds me of someone at the show saying, "How do you know you'll even like them?!", when I bought a shirt before the show. It is called the internet ;)
If you want to know what forgetters sound like search YouTube, and if you are really smart you'll figure out what Thorns of Life songs they play still. I'm still waiting on a forgetters audio leak to hit the internet personally. You can only make out some of the lyrics in the videos. So until then I'll keep listening to my live Thorns of Life MP3s instead.
BTW, forgetters = no "the", no capital "f" - according to Blake. So no, those weren't typos.
Also, Blake did promise a forgetters 7" to be released in March (or was it May?). So, that's already more promising than the rumor mill that generated empty promises about a Thorns of Life full length release.
Their December "Too Small To Fail" Tour has a few remaining dates:Saturday, December 19: New Orleans, La. (Nowe Miasto) Early show.
Sunday, December 20: Memphis, TN. (Hi Tone Café)
Monday, December 21: Chattanooga, TN. (Sluggo’s North)
If you're lucky enough to make it then go! I was pretty disgusted with Gville. There was a very low percentage of locals at the show. There were a LOT of Tampa friends there though. :)
(Still amused by the all caps.)
Oh, be sure to check out their merch both. There are shirts, pins, and maybe even some show posters. Especially don't miss Caroline's fantastic artwork in various forms like hand screened posters and postcards. I picked up one of her
Punk Medical Myths prints I'm in love with.
