I have been hearing some rumors around the industry concerning The Iceman and his activites the week before his first round loss by KO at the hands of Rampage Jackson.  I know everyone was stunned by the KO and so early into the fight, but what really happened?  First of all Chuck showed up to the weigh-in all bloated and pale like he was coming off an all night drinking binge that should have been a clue, and then I find out that he had in fact been spotted at numerous Las Vegas night clubs at all hours of the morning  throughout the week leading up to the fight.  Now veteran MMA fighter Vernon White who lost to Liddell in UFC 49 is saying that Liddell had been in rehab prior to the fight and returned to early to the ring.  Maybe the name "Iceman" is referring to something else?  Did anybody else hear anything about this? That would have been invaluable info to have on Chuck 15 minutes before the fight!!!

It doesn't matter how well LeBron James has been playing, hes going up against the best defense in the league and all he has are a bunch of rookies to back him up.  I am always a fan for the underdog, but it looks like San Antonio will close this out in 6 games. Anyone with a different opinon?

In this stunning turn of events, The Mighty Ducks of Anahiem have virtually bitch slapped the Senators of Ottawa and threaten to win the series tomarrow night at home.  This shocking development has led to some disturbing moves from our leary neighbors to the north, this announcement has just come in hot off the press:

"Pentagon sources said the Canadian air force has scrambled its entire fleet and may be preparing a retaliatory assault if the Anahiem Ducks should prevail. Pray for the good folks of Tampa, Raleigh and Anaheim if that happens — hell hath no fury like two DC-8s carrying a full payload of molten maple syrup." The spokeman went on to say that, "This is a very typical Canadian response and ground crews have already mobilized their efforts to build the worlds largest Pancake to absorb the sticky onslaught of the Canadian Hordes, if it is successful then the Pancake and its sugary payload will be dropped by B52 bombers on top of all Iran!!!"

Anahiem is the favorite at-160 (risk $160 to win $100) with a come back of +140(risk $100 to win $140) on Ottawa, its not looking good for the Canadian club, in fact it looks hopeless.

This Saturday marks the last leg of the Triple Crown for the 2007 racing season as the 139th Belmont Stakes kicks off.

Heres a list of Belmont Contenders:belmont.jpg

  • Curlin
  • Great Hunter
  • Hard Spun
  • Nobiz Like Shobiz
  • Street Sense
  • Tiago
  • Slew's Tizzy
  • Chelokee
  • Cristobal
  • Rags to Riches
  • Imawildandcrazyguy
  • Circular Quay
  • King of Roxy

Personally, I gotta like the rematch between Curlin and Street Sense, but at 1.5 miles long, this race will not be won by a sprinter, oh no.  I would look into some more strategical runners that might look to be slow and steady and then make a fast break at the last turn and still have enough energy to get ahead. As always I like the underdogs.  The lines should be coming out tomarrow after all the runners are confirmed and I will have updates and picks before the weekend.

Thursday night will tip off the 2007 NBA finals between the Spurs and the Cavs. I can already see the out come, but lets take a look at the matchups first.

Bruce Bowen will be carrying the burden of guarding LeBron which has proven to be no easy task.  LeBron has just come off a career high game  of 48 points in double overtime to beat the Pistons and give Cleveland its first ever NBA Finals appearance.  He has emerged as the leader on the Cavs and has some nice backup in rookie Daniel Gibson.  However this spectacular performance in game 5 was just 1 game, now hes going up against the much older, wiser and more experienced Spurs who will be playing for there 4th championship in 9 years.  Can LeBron really be expected to pump out 40+ points a lebron.jpggame in this series gainst the best defense in the West let alone the league!!! It is very doubtful that the Cavs can win this thing, the Spurs are a huge favorite at -500 (Risk $500 to win $100) to win the best of seven series with a comeback on Cleveland of +350(Risk $100 to win $350).  With these kinds of odds it is best to play a little on the underdog(Cleveland) you never know if there could be an injury or suspension or anything.  You would then hedge yourself against the loss of playing the underdog by picking the right spreads for the games leading up to the deciding game, for example game 1 in San Antonio and obviously the Spurs are favored -7.5 points and the total is 180 points combined for both teams.  After reading some articles and previews, I think that Bruce Bowen will have to gain 25 pounds to be able to push LeBron around and Greg Popvich has already stated that they will not double or triple team him until the assess how effective Bowen is against him.  This seems a too confident for me, and I see the same overconfident team that got crushed by the Utah Jazz in their own house, even though the Spurs came back to whip'em I think they are in the habit of losing a game big time before they get their act together.  All this paired with the hot streak that LeBron and company are on and I think you better take the +7.5 points on Cleveland and then if your feeling confident pair that with the over 180 points in a parlay. *Note all lines are subject to change between now and tipoff so if you like a number jump on it!!! don't wait because it could change against you.

If your not much of a parlay player I would at least take the points.  The Spurs have patterns and this is an opportunity to exploit it, but in the end the Cavs are not ready, they are too young.  They have knocked on the door this year and that is the first step in winning the big game, with the same team and this years experience they should be prime candidates for next year to win it all.

Gamblers Palace will be offering odds on the Finals MVP, and already I can tell you that Tim Duncan will be the favorite, but I think this is a mistake on the bookmakerspart and instead look to an underdog like Michael Finley or Manu Ginobili.

The Utah Jazz have found life!!!

Yes on Saturday night they crushed the San Antonio Spurs by 26 points, everything was working for them.  Williams had 31 points and eight assists, and Boozer had 27 points and 12 rebounds, but it was the emergence of their supporting cast on the bench in the second half that helped the Jazz enjoy the kind of route the Spurs had the first two games….and then some.  The 26-point margin of defeat was San Antonio's worst of the season.

While the Jazz played great, the Spurs played horrible,  Duncan got into foul trouble early and you could tell that he was changing his game to compensate, but they were ineffective adjustments against a very aggresive Mehmet Okur who held Duncan to only 16 points and 8 rebounds.  The whole San Antonio team looked like they didn't really want to be there…Bruce Bowen, and Robert Horry were held to a mere 5 points a piece and you could tell there there was no focus and in fact maybe a little arrogance on the Spurs part who came into game 3 up 2-0 in the series.   Even Gregg Popovich admitted that maybe his team had gotten a little too comfortable.  One thing is for sure, Williams and Boozer do not want to go home yet and a win tonight could put pressure on the Spurs.  The current line is San Antonio -1.5 points.  Personally after the whipping that Utah shelled out the other night, I think they are very capable of winning again tonight and you should take the points, I gotta think that San Antonio is getting tired after that long stretch with Phoenix and this lose might be enough to shake their rythem, plus the Jazz are 7-0 at home this season versus San Antonio and I don't see any reason why the streak should end tonight! Bet the JAZZ to win.

The 2007 Stanley Cup finals start tonight and already it looks like a mismatch.  Many had foreseen Anaheims rise through the ranks and they were some what of a favorite to get here, however the Ottawa Senators surprised everyone!!!  Not only did Ottawa get here, but they made statements on their way.  In their path to the Cup were the Pittsburgh Penguins, NJ Red Devils, and the Buffalo Sabres.  Each team had a high powered offense (Buffalo had the leading offense in the league) and was obliterated by the Ottawa defense led by Chris Phillips and Anton Volchenkov.  They came into the playoffs seeded #4 and no one expected this out of them, they are big, physical, hungry and most importantly determined to finish what they started…which looks to be a dominating series of victories to win their first ever Stanley Cup!!!

Anaheim on the other hand is more a finess team who was half expected to be here, they play a smooth fast tempo offense and like to control the rythem of the game.  They seem to be physically smaller that Ottawa and if they can't keep the Senators off tempo then its going to be a tough series for the Ducks, I just don't see Anaheim able to handle the big guys from Ottawa who are known to slow teams down and then just pound on them and slowly wear them down, thats exactly what they did to the Sabres, they stopped the offense dead in its tracks and then proceeded to pound on them and get in a sloppy goal here and there, but just enough to win the game. Right now the odds to win the Cup is pretty even with the Mighty Ducks favored at -120 and the Senators -110 this is due mostly to the fact that in the event of a game 7 it will be played in Anaheim.  The line of game 1 for tonight is Anaheim -135 with Ottawa +115 and the over/under on goals is 5.  I really can't make a pick for the winner, but I do like the under 5 goals as both teams will really be feeling each other out tonight and Anaheims offense will try to find an answer for Ottawa's defense and viceversa, I doubt there will be a scoring frenzy.  I think that the fact that Ottawa virtually came out of nowhere to dominate the playoffs is a testament to the future and my money is on Ottawa to win the whole thing in 6 games.
