The Lance Harrison band finally made it to the Luxembourg Blues & Jazz Rallye! We played as the last act up on "Press Edit Hill" and did a 90+ set of completely original blues music. The only cover we did was for the encore, a 20 min version of "Stormy Monday". We would have played more but we went over our time by 1/2 an hour! We got some great comments after like, "The other bands we heard played their gigs really well, but you gave us the real thing from your heart and soul!" WOW! And that was not just from one or two people! It touched me that they felt it like that.
We met up with several friends, two fellow travelers from our time in Laos, one of my guitar students (that somehow didn't realize I was playing at the festival and stumbled upon the show by chance!) and several of our musician friends.
One of them was our old friend Mr. Sonny Rhodes. We hadn't seen him in four years since playing in Oylzsten, Poland. The sad news was that his wife, Ms. Annie, who is normally right there by his side... was not. She is back in California suffering with uterus cancer, and Sonny is due for hip surgery in 2 weeks. They had to move from their wonderful Florida home to get Annie the best care possible.
We didn't get to see his show as we were 'on' at the same time but he still had the fire in his eyes, especially when we talked about fishing for catfish! He says that he's going to take the winter off from playing after surgery and PT and just sit down on the river and do some serious fishing. I told him about the enormous catfish in the Mekong in Laos and his eyes got really big and full of fire, then he said, "I might just have to get over there and catch me some of that!!!"
I think I'd love to go fishing with him! I really wish them the very best.
We put a nice slideshow up on the Band page of my website: Lance Harrison Website

Playing a nice little pub in Köln called the BRONX this Saturday. They have a reputation for some good shows even though you have to move the pool table to play! It should be interesting. Kevin (of Sydney Ellis, a fine blues singer) is doing the sound so it should be good. Perhaps Sydney may sing one! Anyway, we're looking forward to it. Especially now that we know the elevator to where our instruments are stored (on the 4th floor!) is working contrary to a rumour we heard the other day! I just couldn't imagine hauling all that gear down and up 4 flights of stairs!! But its OK.
We'll be playing 2 hours of ORIGINALS!!!
I'm really happy with the response we've received from the places and festivals we've played! Its not always easy to present originals to a public. But our songs, while fresh, have a familiarity to them. Easy access. ^_^
That's it til next time...... Ola

That was a lot of fun! Very relaxed. All the performers were great! We opened our set with "Going to my hometown" (Rory Gallagher) because it was also the name of the festival. I even brushed up on a borrowed mandolin (from our comedian friend Barry Gould), we ripped it!!! The set went really smooth. A BIG Thanks to the sound crew, stage monitoring was perfect, we could hear everything clear. I got a recording from the board but it lacks the audience response which is so integral to the 'live' moment!
We did have a 'funny' story. On the way we had mapquested the address we sent the info and contract to... wrong place, it was the home of the organizer! We found our way to the nearby festival without much problem after that. Well, we still arrived in the good time, and all went smooth, everyone was happy.
