No, I don't mean the Nitzer Ebb song. I mean that we are getting MUCH closer to being ready to play out. This has been a tortuously long process as we have all been busy with everything else in life. Somehow, though, we've managed to eek out a regular practice schedule, condense our live setup into something we can deal with, and work out nearly enough songs to do a show.

We're looking at sometime around late February or early March 2009 to do a show, and would love to talk to some of our fellow Twin Cities electronic bands about playing together at Club Underground or some such venue.

We'll keep working on things on our end, and starting to contact some of our fellow musicians and venues. If YOU would be interested in playing with us or booking us (or seeing us play), please send us a message here or at ketherband@gmail.com.

Current mood:  hopeful

I just posted the track Go Outside off of our record, just because I think that some people on MySpace (who find going all the way to ketherband.com inconvenient) might dig it. Really I should just post the whole record here, but the whole record is ALREADY AVAILABLE FOR FREE on our website.

Anyway,I also updated all three of the songs on MySpace so that you can actually read the lyrics. Especially important to me are the lyrics for Go Outside, as that is based on the real experience I had when I was mugged and had several of the bones in my face shattered on May 15th 2006.

And on that happy note, I wanted to talk about something more current: our live setup. This has gone VERY slowly. Everyone in Kether is far too busy (Tom is currently on tour... somewhere.. with his main band In Defence, I have a 11 month old baby and a busy job, and Dave is equally as busy on many fronts). Having said that, we HAVE been working on material and practicing on a regular basis! We are still working out some specifics, but what we do know is that we will be playing the three songs posted on MySpace, and all the rest of the material will be brand new. We have several new songs written already, and more ideas in the works. I think the plan is that once we have a few more of the new tracks in a more polished state, we'll start the (often long) process of booking shows as we figure out the last few pieces. After all, nothing motivates you like an impending deadline! I'll post here again (maybe even more often than once every 5 months) when there is more news.

Current mood:  busy
Category: Music

It's been a while since we  posted here, as we are all very busy with many things both musical and otherwise, but we thought we should update and let everyone know what is going on.

Since the vast majority of our music is done entirely on a computer, it takes a decent amount of adaptation in order to be interesting as a live performance.  After all, merely hitting "play" and singing is pretty boring, unless you really like karaoke!  As such, we are forming a lineup of enough musicians to be able to actually play at least a majority of the parts.  Some parts done on the computer are impossible for a real person to play, and others require a live drummer (which we don't currently have), so the computer will still be involved, but it will definitely be just a component of a larger whole, instead of the entire source of the music.  Having Tom playing live guitar helps a lot in this regard as well.

Our current lineup is Jason (vocals/keys), Tom (guitar), Corey (keys), and Dave (keys/computer).  Having Corey and Dave join has brought not only a wealth of creativity but several more pieces of gear (like a Moog Opus-3).  We also recently got our hands on an M-Audio Axiom 49, which will also help quite a lot for the live performances.

We will keep working, and have a feeling that there will be a lot more to post (like show dates) when we get more things ironed out.

Until then, peace.

I just wanted to post quickly to let everyone know that our Reality EP is FREE for download.  Please go to Kether's music page to download it.  There's also a "donate" button.  Any amount $3 (our cost to make/send it) or higher will get us to send you a physical copy of the cd.

We're really proud of this record and the fact that we wrote, recorded, produced and mastered the whole thing our selves, and want everyone to listen to it, so we licensed the record under the Creative Commons share-alike license.  That means we WANT you to share it with everyone and give it away!

We hope you enjoy it.  Thanks.

So it's finally done.  We got the first 50 copies of the "Reality" EP today.  If you'd like to buy one you can get it directly from the manufacturer, or if you live in the Twin Cities area, you can get it directly from me and not pay shipping/handling.  Either way the cd is just $5.00.  Myspace Message me, or email ketherband(at)gmail(dot)com for more info.

I'm currently working on getting them out to a number of stores, and I'll let you all know when that happens.  As for playing a "cd release show" anytime soon, this is still up in the air.   My wife and I just had a baby girl on December 13th, so I'll just put it mildly and say I've had other things to worry about lately than practicing and booking shows.  Having said that, there WILL be shows sooner than later - I'll post here (and the newly-redesigned ketherband.com) when I have more news on that front.

Current mood:  busy
Tis the season to be busy as hell.  At least it has been for everyone in Kether.  I have a son on the way (due on December 12th!) and (along with everyone else in the band) have been working like a dog.  Actually, I think I work more hours than most of the dogs I know...

Anyway,  the record is totally done, the artwork is great (thanks Jason), and I'm currently negotiating getting it pressed with Copy Cats Media.  If all goes well I will send it off tomorrow.  Really.

Now I get to prepare both for the Kether live show, and for the new arrival to our family.  Maybe sometime I'll rest, but right now there's too much to do...

peace

Sorry for the bad pun.  The debut Kether EP, "Reality" is finished and mastered.  Tomorrow I get together with the Paper Prophet and we will attempt to finish the cover art.  Then, I get them pressed, and then... you get the idea.

In other news, our once and future drummer, Jason (aka Brother Lynch) has moved to Portland, much to our dismay.  We are all quite happy for him being able to make changes in his life and follow his Will, but we will greatly miss him, his creativity and his magnificent drumming ability.  Our live show will not be the same without him, but we wish him the best.

I will update again when I know more about the record.  when the record is totally OUT, I will post another single off of it, and more news.

I hope all is well for all of you

Well kids, we have completely finished the record now. Now we're just shopping around for places to get it pressed and starting to think about shows. I don't want to say too much until the record is actually in my hand, but what I will say is that it's 7 songs and ends up being 21 minutes long. We're gonna press a limited number of them, so get yours before they're gone!

I hope all is well for all of you
June 19, 2007 - Tuesday
So apparently I've been too busy to remember to post about how busy I am.  I've been working too much and doing too many other things, and so has everyone else in Kether.  We've still been trying to get together and work on things as often as possible, but it hasn't been as much as I'd like.  I have made progress on the record, though.  I've got one song left to finish, and Tom is working on mastering the others, so I don't think it will be too much longer before the album is finished.  There is a lot of other work to do regarding this as well (art, layout, getting it pressed, etc) so I'm sure I'll be quite.. busy.. with it for a while yet...

Hello kether friends/fiends

I just wanted to inform you that the always interesting Tracy R Twyman has just posted the second installment of her excellent Plus Ultra podcast, and our single "Walking on Gold" is featured at the end!

Those of you who have listened to the single, and then listen to Tracy's podcast, may recognize her voice.  It is she who I sampled in the song saying things like "Vatican Conspiracy", "Ritual Magick", "Royal House of David", and a bunch of other fun things.  Anyway, Plus Ultra is a podcast all about Secret Societies, Conspiracies, the Occult, and everything in between - basically all of the things Tracy has become famous for through the magazine she used to edit (Dagobert's Revenge) and her books (Solomon's Treasure, Arcadian Mystique, The Merovingian Mythos).

If you are interested in any of those things, or just want a refreshingly different perspective on our world and how it operates, I highly recommend checking out tracyrtwyman.com.
