We just published two new books!

Morgenmuffel - A diary of a miscreant cover

Over the past ten years Morgenmuffel zine has been documenting the world that Isy inhabits. From riots in the city of London, cooking for hundreds of punks, starting a housing co-op, or simply hanging out with friends and drinking, Isy’s humour and love of life is always central to the zine.
About the author

Isy Morgenmuffel has been making comic zines since 1997 from her home in Brighton, UK. Originally from South Korea and Germany, she has worked on various other zines, booklets and bits of writing and drawing. She is also the co-author of the vegan cookbook, ‘Another dinner is possible’.

She tries her best to live true to the values she holds dear such as autonomy, mutual aid, cooperation, real community and contributing to the downfall of the existing order.

Excessive Force - a police anthology against the police

Police everywhere, justice nowhere

Whether drawing on personal experiences or imagined stories about modern policing one theme runs through: a shared view of brutal, oppressive policing. Policing that does more harm than good, and a system which hinders, rather than encourages freedom of expression. Or more simply put: acts like an Excessive Force.

Profits from Excessive Force will go towards FITwatch and the Legal Defence and Monitoring group both of whom work towards ending police repression.

Featuring work by: Stephanie McMillan, Ken Dahl, Scott Smith, Edd Baldry, Jimi Gherkin, and many others, they all artfully present their take on the police, with a fine mixture of humour, tragedy, anger and optimism.

Hey,

A brief note. Last Hours has launched a blogs section of the site. There's blogs for Last Hours, Hey Monkey Riot comix, and Blue Lights and Sirens (a blog about being an Emergency Dispatch Operator). There will be more in the coming weeks. http://www.lasthours.org.uk/blogs/

We've also relaunched the home page, which should make all the great content on Last Hours even more accessible!

An invitation to take part in ‘Excessive force’ comix anthology
------------------------------------------------------
Last Hours is preparing to release our first comix anthology this autumn, alongside another autumn surprise, both of which will be followed by Last Hours issue 18 in November! But for now, we’re opening up the invitation for people to participate in Excessive Force (or Police everywhere, justice nowhere – we haven’t made a final decision!)

Climate camp season starts with direct action against coal
------------------------------------------------------
As climate camp Scotland takes places at Mainshill, direct action is taken against coal.

Unknown activists visited the Glentaggart opencast coal mine in South Lanarkshire, sabotaging a conveyor belt that moves coal from the mine to Ravenstruther rail terminal and then on to Drax power station in Yorkshire.

Bad apples vs social change: policing after the G20 protests
------------------------------------------------------
Since the G20 protest in London this year the policing methods used over April 1st and 2nd have been dissected and discussed regularly in the media and in parliament. Reports have been produced and protests condemning police violence have been organised. Thousands of words have been published both in mainstream and independent media sources discussing civil liberties and issues around the right to protest. But has anything actually changed?

Songs of the Dead by: Derrick Jensen
------------------------------------------------------
For those not familiar with Jensen’s work he has been hailed by some as a singular voice speaking out against the destructive nature of the dominant culture and a ‘drooling luddite’ by others.

They're playing the Gaff on Wednesday 20th May with Apologies I Have None and PJ & Gaby. It's frankly going to be AMAZING. Doors are at 7pm, and it's £6 to get in. See you down there!

Actually there aren't many summer stories to report. A few of us just made it from Climate Camp, but beyond that life in the world of Last Hours is quiet. Except of course for the website. Tom Fiction and Edd are busy working on getting it fully functional. So far you can now comment on all the posts, reviews, articles, and interviews (and people are encouraged to!).

We've also made it easier to integrate artwork with the online articles, so the website will now look as pretty as the zine. We're currently working on the events page and making the reviews section run smoothly. Though since we've created over 3,000 reviews since the zine started this will probably take us till the end of the summer to complete.

Anyhow, check out www.lasthours.org.uk and see what's going on...

Hey,
So I'm completely abusing the Last Hours myspace to post stuff about myself...

I started a comic a little while ago called Hey Monkey, Riot! I just published issue 2 of the comic, and I also started doing it as a daily webcomic.

You can read the daily comic at
www.lasthours.org.uk/heymonkeyriot/

You can also purchase a copy of the comic there, or by using the paypal button below!
