I feel like FBF has reached the end of one phase, and is about to enter another. I think from an artistic point of view, we've scaled the mountain. Of course, there is another, higher, mountain behind it...

From a musical point of view, we've sort-of arrived at what I think is the sound of FBF, how it would have sounded at the beginning if we'd only known how FBF was supposed to sound. Now, of course, we have to start again as we have lost our piano player - Richard has gone - and the piano was the glue holding all the pieces together.

Do we strip back the sound and play on with a more minimal sound? Do me or Ian try to fill the gaps with guitar? (and that would change the sound a hell of a lot too). Do we bring more people in?

Of course before we unleash the new sound of FBF - whatever it turns out to be - we must release our new album. (coming soon, probably in 2009. I hope in 2009, I really do)

We've decided that it's time to get our older stuff 'out there' again, on my Box of Woks label.  It's a lot easier to set up a 'record label' these days, you just to stick the files on the web somewhere with none of that expensive CD manufacturing business. The budget for this operation is rather limited, to say the least.

First up: 'Haidd' (Box 01) was a limited edition CD on Barl Fire. Well that was years ago, I thought it was time that the 32minute psychedelic 'EP' was out again. I've tried to sell it as cheaply as possible - most places you can get it for the price of 1 track (exception: iTunes want £7.99 for it. There is nothing I can do about this.) Download this from Emusic.com or 7digital

Next: 'The East Room'(Box 02) This was a 4-track EP on the now-defunct Woven Wheat Whispers label. We managed to finish the 5th track too late for inclusion (by about a year!) and this is the chance to put it out the way it should have been in the first place. Get this from Emusic.com.

Coming soon: 'Full Gathering Moon'. The semi-legendary EP that was released as a limited 3"cd on Hand/Eye in 2005 will soon be taxing the emusic/iTunes servers as a) millions of people download the music they've been waiting their whole lives for! Or b) a couple of dozen people download the music they quite like. I still think a) is more likely. This should be out by the end of 2008, if my calculations are correct.

The new album, 'Far Black Furlong', is now available on the ICR label. It is a rapturous, symphonic work in six movements, describing tides from the summer breeze through barley, to the shimmering stretch of a vast ocean, to the birth pangs of stars. Much of the music was recorded in outdoor locations on the Welsh/English borders.

The album features Mark Baigent, Andy Cotterill, Bryony Lees, John Letcher, Richard Moult, Ian Tengwall and Canadian flautist Amanda Votta of the group The Floating World.

A special edition of the album is available from ICR which includes a bonus disc featuring 'Haidd 2', a Hadean re-visiting of last year's album 'Haidd'. This special edition is limited to 150 copies.
