Our friends Little Annie and Paul Wallfisch have a new album out soon....

Genderful is the new album from Little Annie & Paul Wallfisch, due late October/early November 2009. Genderful contains 11 songs, many of which have been performed live over the last few years.
The video for "Because You're Gone Song" is complete and online now at YouTube. It was directed by David Merten at Ghava.

NWW: Chance Meeting On A Dissecting Table Of A Sewing Machine And An Umbrella
 
We are very pleased to announce that we are now taking pre-orders for the first in the United Dirter series of Nurse With Wound vinyl re-issues.

It will be a 2 LP set with the extra track "Strain, Crack, Break" (never previously available on vinyl and appearing for the first time in any format in its intended unedited form) on side three and an etching on side four. There will a special edition and a regular edition of this release.

The special box set will be limited to 500 numbered copies only. Advance subscribers via http://www.dirter.co.uk/shop.html ONLY will have a chance to order one of the first 250 copes, which will come with a signed fine art print.     

It will consist of:

• The double LP.

• A T-Shirt with the legendary "NWW list" in luminous ink on a black shirt. All shirts will be in size "Large". The sets will be shrink-wrapped at factory level, so it is not possible to vary the sizes to order. However, we are offering a chance for anybody to purchase an extra shirt in another specific size, at cost price for the next two weeks. Please email info@dirter.co.uk and (important) state only "nww shirt" as the subject if you are interested.

• A die cut pin badge of the front image

• A beautiful fine art print of the iconic front sleeve on the highest quality art paper. The prints will be made using the original artwork, kindly entrusted to us by David Tibet from his personal collection. Each print will be signed by Steven Stapleton and numbered. It will be a faithful reproduction of the original art down to the finest detail. This is the closest we will get to owning the original artwork.

The collection will be housed in a superb printed matt laminated box, each individually numbered.
We are aware that many of you have been patiently waiting for this for some while now. The delay has been caused by us receiving prototypes of the intended polypropylene box and not being happy with them. So, we had to change the whole design and we're now delighted to offer a set that we feel is really special.

Please note that the shipping on this is very expensive. The packages will weigh well over 1.5 kilos and no copies will be sent uninsured. The cost price to us is far too high to take any chances. So, the shipping charge to your area will include either shipping via insured courier, or insured mail. Either way, the package will have to be signed for.
The pre-order subscriber's price for the set is £45 + shipping.  We expect to ship this week beginning August 3rd. If this moves in any way, the website will be updated.

Steven Stapleton is thrilled and somewhat astonished to be invited to play two concerts with the legendary Mali musician Boubacar Traoré. Steven is immensely looking forward to working with Boubacar on such a remarkable and unlikely collaboration.

Biography

b. Kayes, Mali. Traoré first rose to local prominence in the 60s, performing on Radio Mali, where his songs "Mali Twist" (an adaptation of the then fashionable Western dance style) and "Kayeba" (a call to all Malian exiles to return to their newly independent homeland) became hugely popular. To supplement the meagre wages he earned as a radio performer, Traoré worked as a tailor, a salesman and an agricultural agent for the government. In the late 60s he gave up music in order to concentrate on his governmental role. When his elder brother (also a well-known musician) died, it was assumed that it was Boubacar Traoré who had passed away. However, in 1987 he re-emerged to make a television appearance and a recording session for Radio Mali that resulted in the release of a locally popular cassette. UK radio broadcaster Andy Kershaw obtained the cassette and it was subsequently issued by Stern's Records on vinyl, as Mariama. The album introduced audiences outside of Mali to Traoré's plaintive vocals, intricate acoustic guitar playing and ballad style (a contrast to the more commonly heard, abrasive "jali" style of Malian music).

Traoré moved to Paris, France and was invited to the UK where he toured and also recorded a second album for Stern's. Kar Kar (his nickname back in Mali) was just as laid back and wistful as its predecessor, further highlighting a style not too far removed from the mellower end of country blues. He became a regular on the world music festival circuit and in 1996 released Sa Golo on France's Label Bleu, featuring accompaniment from calabash player Baba Drame. Macire, released three years later featured backing from Habib Koité and his group Bamada and contained "Kar Kar Madison", a belated follow-up to "Mali Twist".

NURSE WITH WOUND to feature in new All Tomorrow's Parties film

Nurse With Wound feature alongside Belle And Sebastian, Sonic Youth, Portishead, Daniel Johnston, Boredoms, Mogwai, Slint, The Dirty Three, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, GZA, Iggy and the Stooges, Shellac, Patti Smith and namy others in the new feature documentary from Warp Films.

ALL TOMORROW’S PARTIES is a kaleidoscopic journey into the parallel musical universe of the cult music festival of the same name. The film is a semi-found multi media bricolage shot by over two hundred filmmakers, fans and musicians over the festival’s recent history, with key contributions from co-director Jonathan Caouette (Tarnation) and cinematographer Vincent Moon (The Take Away Shows, Arcade Fire).

The film premiered at SXSW and is being screened worldwide throughout the year. It's DVD release is set for September.

The UK premiere presented by Future Cinema will happen on 24th June at the Edinburgh Picturehouse. It is a unique live cinema event which will see the venue transformed into a 1950s Holiday Camp, with the film being brought to life through a fusion of music and performance; with DJ's including Belle and Sebastian's Chris Geddes, midnight bingo, and live music culminating in a very SPECIAL HEADLINE SET from a top-secret Scottish act.
